Good condition
Course was in good shape it's a good layout for the novice golfer, fairly open fairways.
Hornby Gem
The weather was fabulous. The course was well maintained. There are enough par 5's to satisfy the power drive hunger in you. Overall, I enjoyed the day and the course.
Poor experience
Staff overcharged upon arrival claiming some issue with Golf Now not playing the correct rate and then charged us more than what was advertised. Starter was disorganized, a poor way to start the round. Course conditions were ok but still needs work. They made the green fees right in the end as we had to complain to get the issue fixed. Won't be back if this is how they treat their customers.
Decent Value
Greens were slow, pine placements were challenging. Fairways were in good shape and the rough was a challenge to hit out of at times. Some blind holes and shots.
Good test would return now that I have more course knowledge.
Decent!
This course is nothing to write home about but, decent for the value if booked through GolfNow. The regular green fees do not pair well with the course, clubhouse, etc unless they're looking to build a new clubhouse with the overcharge fees.
The rough was not really cut down and your ball was extremely hard to find which slowed down the pace of play a lot....
Easily one of the best deals in the gta
Pace of play on the front 9 was great, no one behind us. The back 9 we caught up to 2 four somes and waited on 14,15 and 16 for about 5 minutes before each tee off. Course is in good shape considering the dry weather the past week.
Walked the course and by hole 12 i wish i got a cart. Was fun overall and will be back.
You get what you pay for ...
I've played here several times, I've never been liked the course that much, but the price is a good draw.
General notes - pace, etc:
The clubhouse is simple and does the job. It's not fancy and they don't try to be. They know they're a cheap course but still treat customers well and offer decent value. In the mornings the pace can be decent, unless you get caught behind certain entitled groups. Other times of day the pace can be ok or pretty slow. There's a range, but you need to bring your own balls, so generally either warm up elsewhere or don't warm up.
Conditions:
The course conditions are generally pretty good. Greens are consistent and moderate speed; however, apparently no one fixes ball marks. I was fixing five per green - those where just the ones near my line. Fairways and rough were in decent condition - all the rain helped ensure they were green. The bunkers were a weak point - they needed stirring as it was like hitting off of clay.
Course layout:
This is the part that keeps me from coming back for a fast weekend morning round. I find the course dull. Straight hole - with a bunker or two around the green. That's the formula. There are some dog legs, but for the most part it's monotonous. The fescue that comes in on some holes doesn't help with pace - it's not horrible, just an annoyance.
Straight holes - maybe a bunker or pond out of play:
1, 2, 3, 6, 9 (mostly straight) 10, 12, 14
You'll be dying of boredom by the turn. I was and walked off after 9 on my last visit because it was slow and boring.
Expensive Course
I found the price quite high considering there are other nearby courses that are better designed.
I was looking forward to playing here but was disappointed with staff and price. I booked through GolfNow and was quoted one price and when I arrived for my tee time, the price was higher than I would have paid.
Good course, awful staff
Booked through golf now as a 2 sum. It was walking rate decided to take a cart when we got there. 18$ per rider!? Okay I decided to ride even though it's a walkable course. My buddy decided to walk. The group ahead of us let us through on hole 2. To be respectful I told my friend to hop on the cart so we could speed up play a bit. As soon as we got to the 3rd hole the Marshall came to us asking for a credit card for my friend to ride. We explained what happened and then he actually told he was told to keep an eye on us. Pure rat. My buddy continued to walk and we enjoyed the rest of the round. I like the layout and the speed of the greens.
Great GTA course
I always enjoy Hornby Glen. Great value, good conditions and slippery greens.
Got one birdie at hole 7
Good layout, goof for walking. Got birdie at hole 7!
Good value
Course was very good considering lateness of the year (late Oct). Very good condition overall and a pleasant golf day.
Best greens
This course has one of the best kept greens I've ever played at and especially at that price. Not the biggest clubhouse, but decent size. At the end of the day, it's all about the course and it's amazing. It'll probably end up being my home course because I tend to go back alot more
Great course condition every year!
Always enjoyed playing here, riding or walking the layout is easy but the greens are fast and challenging. Marshals are visible but are not intimidating to keep the pace on time. Rates are competitive around the area. Clubhouse is great with good food. Staff are professional and friendly.
Great day, fun course, courteous staff
We had a great day golfing. Very well layed out course, and a lot of fub. Great food and beer options. Wrap and sweet potatoe fries were amazing. It was nice at the end that they gave us towels for a hot shower as it rained most of the day. Will be back!
Poor pace
While others have rated the pace of play to be good or excellent that was not our experience. We were blocked by two foursomes who were extremely slow. To get the marshalls to act I called the club house and they came out. The first marshall was ineffective, the second did speak with the two groups however it made a small amount of difference to the pace. We finished our round in 4:15 which is less than the 4:30 they use as a standard, and which they seem to believe is a reasonable speed.
