Nice greens!...no rakes in traps...better weather would have been nice...we survived and enjoyed our day
Fall Ball
Check in was easy and price was fair for November. Course was walkable. Beverage cart was out.
First time playing and will definitely return.
Fall play at the Royal
Great layout, slow pace, no marshalls. Last year the place was falling apart.
A great course, my favorite Kaneff course!
It was a beautiful day in November, and I always enjoy playing at Royal Ontario, would recommend to all levels of golfers as they offer multiple levels of tees from your scratch golfer to your beginner golfer!
We love fall golf, thanks for the feedback!
Golf in November - Course was soft and almost winterized
No ball washers, signage was wrapped up to keep the paint from flaking. No rakes on the bunkers, some with drainage pipes exposed. Each step on the green left footprints and nobody ahead of us was repairing ball marks. The greens were spiked weeks back but the remnant pinholes affected ball roll. Speed of the greens was very irregular.
The fairways were immaculate, leaves were blown into the deep rough. Don't understand why long rough is red staked in many holes?
Thanks, the preparations for winter seem to be rapidly moving forward. Thanks for the feedback. Red staked long grass is done to help pace of play.
beautiful fall day at a great golf course
super day with a few clients...Leaves were at their prime, plus a very warm 27 degree day..Gorgeous...joe
Thanks for the great comment!
Disappointed
Have played this course several times and generally in very good condition. Yesterday the greens were a mess, lots of ball and shoe marks. It appeared no maintenance had been done for days.
Definitely a choice
First time here. Course in great shape. Good work by the Superintendent and staff. Pace of play was slow.(5 hours). At least a dozen unrepaired ball marks on each green. Sign of who plays here? Hole number 5, short par 4, is beyond comprehension. Gimmicky is fine but this one is ridiculous. Time to remove some trees to make it drivable or it could easily be fixed with new tee boxes. Food and beverage service average at best. Range balls are dead. A good $60 a round course.
Thanks, hole 5 originally was suppose to be 150 yards longer going back into the trees. Will pass along your feedback to the turf team.
First time
I had never played here but i sure will be playing it again. Great course unfortunately we did not have perfect conditions but we made the most it. I would recommend this course to anyone.
Thanks for sticking through the conditions!
We'll be back
We played late morning on a Wednesday and pace of play was perfect - never waiting, never rushed.
Marshalls were present and unobtrusive.
Conditions are excellent - it was cart path only due to recent rain but appreciate the effort to maintain the course... groundskeepers active to ensure well-maintained greens.
Course is tight and challenging - a pleasure to play.
Wow, great feedback, thanks!
Very slow pace of play
Pace of play was so bad, we left at the 15th hole. We called to pro-shop when we got to 1th hole. It was backed up and there was no help with player assistance or marshaling the course!!
Very nice
Very nice course even though the raining conditions.
The green was fast and challenge to us.
I want to play again this course.
Thanks!
Rough green
The greens were slow and very beat up. I don't think my people playing there fix ball marks or pick up there feet. Also the back nine we had a 5 some playing in front of us. They were very alow
I know we don't allow 5somes, I will send this to Cal our pro to investigate. Thanks!
Course was challenging, but enjoyable to play
I definitely hope to play this course again. It was challenging, but not too difficult. The greens were in great shape & the tee blocks were level. Overall the course ranked high, considering the lack of rain this season, the maintenance of the course has been done to keep it's overall conditions in tip/top shape!
Thanks!
Royal Ontario: A Royal Treat
Royal Ontario Golf Course is a KaneffGolf crown jewel, located in Hornby Ontario. This contemporary design golf course opened in 2003, and it's youthful appearance combines beauty and mystique - a true Golfers delight. The course landscape consists of dense treelined and natural rolling fairways - narrow to start your round, then becoming generous to change your attitude and appreciation of the course - and several large ponds. The greens are true and fast, varying in size, with undulations that are delightful. It calls to mind a box of chocolates: fresh, sweet, dark, delicious, varying in appearance, with each piece having a mysterious filling. A Royal Treat.
Royal Ontario rate high in customer satisfaction. Upon my arrival I was greeted by a smiling staff member, with a sincere interest in giving me a royal welcome. He proceeded to facilitate the check-in process by answering questions, and loading my golf bag onto a cart. The clubhouse, Pro Shop, and restaurant are clean, bright and contemporary. My memorable round of golf was made complete by Cal Robinson the Director of Golf at Royal Ontario. I was given a detailed history of course's humble beginning, its challenges, and exciting plans for the future.
The day I played Royal Ontario it was sunny, with a mild Breeze and the temperature was in the mid-70s. I played the blue tees which has a slope rating of 71.5 /136 and measures 6385 yard. There are 6 sets of tee boxes and the championship tees are 7074 yards with a slope rating of 75.0/146. I like this course because it's visually pleasing with a certain charm and grit. For me the charm and grit lies and the challenge of the force carries, navigating the meandering fairways, avoiding hazard, and applying good course management. Being honest about the use of your driver will save you strokes and increase your enjoyment for the day. I highly recommend getting the course guide book or pay close attention to the score card pictures and yardage. Local knowledge will save you at least 5 strokes.
My favorite hole is hole number 3, where I scored my first Birdie on the course. This 502 yard par 5, requires 3 well-placed shots to reach the green. I followed the instructions from the yardage booklet and hit my tee shot left of center, it went further than expected and came to rest in the farthest fairway bunker on the left side of the fairway. I was a little bummed out until I saw that beyond the traps was a pond and really tall and thick grass. My second shot was over water, which came to rest in the fairway at the 125 yard mark. Now, I am back on the game plan for this hole. Looking at the green, the pin was tucked in the back right corner of a well-protected green, with 3 large and deep sand traps in front of the green. It's a sucker, Sunday pin location, with high-risk, that requires a high approach shot. My approach was almost perfect, leaving me a 8-foot birdie putt. Needless to say, there was never a doubt about the putt, and the ball going into the hole. The "Birdie" man is feeling good! Oh yeah.
The course signature holes are 3, 5, 7 and 18. The course is in excellent shape and a good value for the money. This was my first time playing this course and I look forward to playing it again. I would recommend Royal Ontario Golf Club to all golfers.

New fave
This one might be my new favourite course! Well maintained, offered a good challenge with great risk/reward opportunities. Definitely suggest checking it out for yourself.
Awesome!
Good day
Good day of golf. Only positives to say.
Thanks for the positive comment!
One of my favourites
We play the course about 8-10 times each year, great layout and in good conditon. Could use a bit more supervision from marshalls to nudge the players to move faster. Did not see a marshall on the course yesterday. The group ahead was behind in their pace of play most of the round and were constantly looking for balls. Other than that, we had a great time.
We will pass this feedback along to Cal our pro. Thanks!
Impressively well managed golf course in this dry whether
I played at this course quite a few times but yesterday was the best one so far. Well managed and watered fairway and moderately fast green made my day very enjoyable with my friends. I strongly recommend this course for your pleasant field outing this year.
Awesome, thanks!
Glad you survived the weather, will get on the rake issue!
