Pace of play
There were not many players on the course, but we were all forced to wait starting on 1st because Mr. Kaneff went out golfing with his group and slowed down play. Maybe it is a local rule that we, the paying customers, were not made aware of, but I am sure that the marshals would have reprimanded any "regular" group for slow play.
Shocking
I have played Royal Ontario at least 25 times in 2014 and 2015 seasons. It's on our regular rotation and is usually in great shape. Our first round in 2016 was SHOCKING.....greens were a disaster. Course in general was in poor shape. Tee boxes and areas around the greens were weedy and needed to be trimmed....all in all I have NEVER seen the course in worse shape. New head pro seems nice and staff is always great but I'm not sure why the maintenance was in such poor shape?? Really shocked as to what is normally an incredible golf course.
Great Course
I've played this course a few times and it seems to be as challenging the first time as it is the 10th, Highly recommend this course to any type of golfer.
Good course
It is a goof course challenge one in good condition. The staff are friendly and you do not need to Waite if you are single to join another group if the course is not very busy.
Great Public Golf Course
One of the best public golf courses in the world in terms of value for money, staff friendliness, well-maintained greens, and course layout. Highly recommended for new and intermediate golfers.
Good condition at this time of the year
The course was very dry and good condition considering we had wet snow and freezing rain just 3 days ago.
Royal Ontario
For time I played golf on Dec 24 in Ontario.
The course was in good condition, but greens were unkept and bumpy. Cannot complain for Dec 24.
Course was busy. pace was good.
Even bettter.
I played this course on Sunday, the 29th of December and I have to tell you it was great. I didn't play all that well, but there were many opportunities to get some satisfaction out of my clubs and the course, and some of them realised. It being the end of the season,I didn't shy from the big water, and other than the occasional drop, I made it over with whatever I needed. If you battle a slice, as I do, you may want to just lay up on to the fairway to get into the open before griping and ripping with a wood on a few of the holes, but other than that it is an extremely fun place to play.
Great Fall Golf
Given the time of Year, the course was in good condition. Some greens were a bit sandy, but this is Fall golf.
Great staff but greens were not in good shape
The weather was a bit brisk but the course overall was in good shape except for the greens. They had been airrated but there were a lot of pitch marks. We just had to hope as the ball bounced on our putts. The course is quite challenging as water is in play on many holes. Glad we played it; we will come back.
Customer Service
Played this course on the 15th of October. Tee's and fairways were in fantastic condition. Ran into an issue with a number of the greens. They had been sanded and not raked making them unplayable. There was no mention of this prior to the round. Raised it with the Pro Shop after and were surprised, pleasantly, with a rain cheque for our twosome. Winter conditions are expected it was the lack of a heads up. The customer service was exceptional. Unfortunately not the norm in todays day and age. We'd be back just based on that. Curse is a lot of fun as well.
we love the course
We always look forward to playing the course, it is a challenge and needs managed but is fair.
Cdn Thanksgiving Round
First time at Royal Ontario. Greens were chewed up, and inconsistent, tees were OK, and rough was full of weeds. While I enjoyed the round, I would not pay any more than $50 to play here. Too many other courses in better condition than this one.
Excellent Fairways & greens
The course is always in excellent condition. A challenge for all levels of golfers, even newcomers to the game with the addition of the green tee boxes. Dining in the outdoor patio provides good food & entertainment as golfers approach the clubhouse around the pond on hole#9 .
Just another rounds
I would only recommend if you're 90 or better otherwise you won't have much fun here
A bit expensive
The 'Royal' in the name makes this course sound posh. Indeed when you arrive your name is on your cart and there are many bag attendants to help. This upper-crust mentality is also reflected in its pretty hefty green fee.
1. On Arrival
The staff were functional but by know means friendly. At check in there were no smiles to be seen or welcomes to be given.
2. Range
You expect that at a high end course range balls would be included. This is not the case. The range itself is fine if not a little short, but there is a nice little short game area.
3. The Course
I played off of the Blues with another couple of guys. The length was shorter than the yardage suggested, but the course allows you to shape your shots and encourages proper club selection. The sand in the traps was very good, and the water hazards are in play on a majority of the holes.
On the down side, ball marks were not fixed and Sand traps not raked. Not the courses fault, but the golfing public needs to have a little more respect.
4. Pace of Play
This is a course where inexperienced player can get themselves into a lot of trouble. My two playing partners found a lot of rough and water, but we were still waiting on every tee.
5. Bonus
I must have found some thirty balls during the round, which is a reflection of the courses difficulty.
I will probably go back again, but will only do so if the price is better.
Enjoy!!
GreAT fALL dAY!!
The course was in great shape, the weather was excellent. Our golf cart started to sputter on the 14th hole and we made it too 18, but was slow. Actually had to push it up some hills. Play was a little slow. Just under 5 hrs to complete round.
Like this course
This is a very nice golf course. Exceptionally well run and a challenge as a golfer.. but a nice one. I would go back here again for sure. Only complaint is that the staff wanted us to do cart path only when the dew was on the ground, is that necessary?
Management no where in sight.
Staff was driving their mainteancen trucks right in front of us as we were playing, very distracting. The blower even blasted grass at our cart.
No cart girl in sight, no management.
This play has gone down hill over the years.
Much better places for you money, including Piper's Heath right across the street.
