What a difference a year makes
It pains me to write this review as I really do enjoy playing this course. But....Our group played Friday 7-28.
I play this course every year at this time as we rent a cottage nearby each year. In the past the course has been in excellent condition and I we have enjoyed it immensely .
However this year was different. Given the cooler, wetter than usual spring/summer I expected the course to be in tip top condition...Wrong. First off the greens. They were slow and bumpy and by the amount of ball marks they looked like they has experienced an apocalyptic hail storm. I understand it's the players who need to fix their ball marks (How you can pay $150.00+ and not know or care about fixing your ball mark's is just beyond me). The price should weed out most of the hacks. Shame on you fellow golfers.
The fairways were ok..but bare in spots, and just not up to the level that you expect at a course of this price point. The bunkers and rough were fine. In contrast we had played another course about an hour away and it was in amazing shape...perfect and two of us played for the same as the twilight rate for one at DHH.
The staff was friendly and went out of their way to make you feel welcome.
Come on folks, you need to get your act together, it's a beautiful course which I really do enjoy playing, but I can't see forking out the dough to play it again there are too many other options at that price range. I get that the ball marks are somewhat beyond your control, but having the starter mention it and perhaps reminding people to fix or...may be silly but hire a bunch of teens to look after a group of greens and have them be responsible for fixing the marks if the players are too ignorant not too. Just offer them some free rounds.
Sorry for the poor review Deerhurst, but this time it's warranted.
Not worth the $
Terrible tee boxes, even worse bunkers, slow pace of pace with no marshalls out there. The second hole is a beautiful view but the green is borderline unplayable sue to all the geese droppings. The course is free to play if you stay at the resort and it shows in the effort they put into course maintenance. To pay 55 bucks (with cart) to play here should be illegal.
Signs would be nice
Big resort, lots of amenities, is there anyway someone could put some signs up directing you to the first tee from any of the parking lots?
Average course
Tees were in terrible condition, fairways were average, greens were okay, and sand traps were awful. Very disappointing for a resort golf course.
Very disappointing golf
Jammed in like sardines. Waiting everywhere hole much more than normal. 5 of nine holes are par 3’s. The course is not marketed as an executive course. The condition of the greens were brutal.
First and last time playing here.
It’s a great course for kids and beginners to learn on Should be $10 for nine holes. There are better executive courses with an honour system to pay in Ontario. This should be one of them.
Tough to beat for price
9 tee decks
9 holes
Fairways/bunkers/rough...got it all, nothing fancy. Cheapest fees in town make it easy to love!
Problem with contacting GOLFNOW
Hi - we had booked a round of golf for two and purchased the cancellation protection- because of heavy rain we cancelled more than an hour before we have reserved tee time - yet no credit or way to contact GOLFNOW to get our refund or credits - bad customer service
Beautiful scenery
The staff were excellent ! The course is very well maintained and very much worth it for the price
Good value but lacking
Given it is one of the few walkable courses in the area, it was nice to stretch the legs. The course has a pretty layout, and greens, fairways and tee boxes are in good shape, but bunkers haven’t seen any new sand or a rake in quite a while. The bag drop is in a strange place at the bottom of a hill you have to walk up to the Pro Shop, check in, then stroll back down. You park on the other side of the resort, so very convoluted. Also, get some garbage bins at the bag drop for everyone’s refuse.
Best bang for your buck
Lakeside is the most fairly priced course in muskoka.
Great people there too.
The only downside is the muddy bunkers
And it’s too bad they removed the back 9 holes
Opening day
Convenience store staff, pro shop staff and the Marshall were all 10 stars when it came to greeting us and ensuring everything we needed was in order before we started our round (best 9 hole course I’ve ever played) we will be back every year, on our way to open up the family cottage!!
