Deerhurst Highlands Golf Course - Deerhurst Highlands
About
Two stunning courses are the centerpiece at this full-facility luxury resort, which was one of Muskoka's earliest resorts, open in 1896. The Deerhurst Highlands championship course is from architects Robert Cupp and Thomas McBroom. Carved from the rugged hills and dense forest, it presents the golfer with challenges of all types.

Such a beautiful course
haven't played this course for 25 years. It is just as beautiful and challenging as I remember. Still my favorite course ever
Deerhurst Highlands
One of my fav’s played it many times.
Course was pretty wet in places and no power carts on the fairways.
Enjoyed my round immensely and will hopefully play again.
Recommend a round at the Highlands.
Great layout
Course was saturated so it was cart paths only. Luckily we were the first out so we played in under three and half hours .
Interesting
Cut through the forest and rocks this course does not have water views rivers or many pond water hazards. It’s light on sandd traps and has a good balance of tight and forgiving holes
Long cart ride to and from the course to the parking. Never saw the clubhouse. (Covid closed).
Not too many flat lies on this course. Some fairly severer and interesting elevation changes. Beautiful views. Interesting layout.
Absolutely Terrible
Do not waste your money. This place is such a dump it’s unbelievable. Despite minimal rain over the past week every shot plugged in the fairway and we were hard pressed to find a dry lie. The greens are horrendous. Grass is half dead on most of them and they are sandy and bumpy. I would play Huntsville downs any day over this place. Disgusted.
Weather Challenge
This course is a great challenge with incredible veiws.
The course gives you several tee boxes to suit your skill level.
Unfortunately, we played the day after extremely heavy rains the day/night before. The course condition was excellent considering fairways were saturated which made the play extra challenging. Deerhurst requires everybody to ride individual power carts as part of COVID19 protocols; price was included.
HIGHLY recommend for stay & play.
Nice Course
Beautiful setting and friendly people, well layed out.
Pace of play was extremely slow, people were not pushed to pick up their pace , some were not fit to play this course.
Tee boxes were a bit spotty, could have been much better.
Greens were a mix of grass , spotty and inconsistent.
Due to slow pace could only play 13 holes in 3hr 45 min. Had to leave without finishing.
Was not happy paying a prime rate and having to leave before finishing due to slow pace of play, marshal could have done a bit more.
Lovely and pictureque
I cottage in the area and LOVE playing this course, so picturesque. There is some freeze burn from the winter but nothing that would affect one's game.
Scenic and Challenging
While Covid hindered the patio, the course itself was operating well. The starter was excellent. The website proved to have some bugs in it with regards to rates but pro shop staff remedied it. Unfortunately the pro shop had limited inventory and the patio and steakhouse were not open. As for golf it would be hard to top the challenge, the weather and the pace. Always a reliable stop when visiting Muskoka.
It has slipped
I have enjoyed Deerhurst Highlands many times over many years. Today it was in poor condition by comparison to any previous round. The greens were slow and bumpy. The fairway conditions did not affect our game, but they weren’t manicured. I understand that in Covid times you may have reduced staff hours to control costs but, if so, it shows. If not, the conditions are hard to understand. Thanks for asking.
Great Location, Ok Condition
You can't ask for much more than a strong 18 holes next to Lake of Bays. The course itself provides a good enough challenge - tight front, open back, bunkers in the right spot, lots of undulating terrain to make good shots a challenge still.
The only issue was the course condition. 3*'s is generous. Every green was chewed up - lots of dead spots. Some of the bunkers were flooded (it hadn't rained in almost 2 days, and this summer, almost no rain all year). Fairways were equally chewed up with dead areas turned into just dirt piles. The range was awful - all crab grass, not a level spot. For the price point, I expect to see at least the greens and tee box areas in great condition as well as bunkers you don't have to pull a ball out of due to flooded bunkers.
Otherwise, enjoyed the round.
Bring a lot of balls...
Beautiful course, but very challenging. Bring lots of balls - anywhere in the junk means the ball’s gone...
Only real complaint is that the bunkers were like concrete with a small sand coating.
Great layout but course needs updating
Great course design and elevation changes. Carts are very basic for a course of this quality. Greens and bunkers need to be rebuilt to today's standards. Very slow green speeds.
Could be world class
Great golf course, layout, veiws playability.
The couse lacks the details, sand traps are hard pan with little to very little sand almost impossible to play from not because they are hard but because they have no sand.
Conditions needs to be tighten up for quality purposes, greens are good, tee decks are nice and the rough is very good.
Overall I would recommend this course I just believe with more care, detail a some investment this course could be in the top 20 in Canada.
