Onion Creek

Played the tips - relatively short course, but still very challenging, reminiscent of something like Winged Foot. The course is in tremendous shape. This was my second time playing the track, and I'd play it again in a heartbeat.

Great layout. Bring extra balls.

Private course except for Golf Now tee times. Started At 4pm Sat. Done in less than 3.5 hours as a single. Awesome layout. Hit from one up from tips and shot my handicap. Will be be here after the forecasted thunderstorms.

Greens in great condition

Austin had a difficult spring for golf course greens and Onion Creek has done a great job keeping theirs in good shape.

Great outing on Mother's Day

I played as a single on Mother's Day, and finished in a bit less than 4 hours! I thought that was speedy for a Mother's Day Sunday, even though I've never played this course. Loved the condition; and thought it was quite challenging. (I played from the tips.) Greens were very nice, and not super hard to read. . . But in the heat and wind, they definitely got faster as the round progressed.

Nice course but a little pricey for the conditions

Everyone one was very friendly including the members we talked with. Driving range grass was sparse and balls were old but at least it was someplace to warm up. You can tell at one time this was a top notch golf club but time has taken its toll on it.

With that being said we started off our round at a nice leisurely pace and then we ran into four members who would not let anyone go through. One could not walk up the greens and the place came to a halt. Made for a long, long back side but still a pleasant place to play golf. If not for the slow play we would have loved it.I'm pretty sure we were just unlucky on that day and normal play is fine.

The course is a 50.00 course not 70.00 but it was a great layout and fun to play.

One of my favorites

I love playing this course. It's always in great shape. I enjoy the layout with rolling hills and wide fairways. Old school design. Staff is always friendly. We teed off at 3:18 and only saw a few other people on the course. Took our time and easily played in four hours! Wish I could play here more.

Confusing But Fun

The course needs MUCH BETTER directional signage. We missed playing 2 holes because the hole numbering is so confusing and there's not much in the way of signage. Some holes are missing hole numbers - Not Good

Good round

The course was in excellent shape and as always, a challenging round. My only complaint is the pace of play. A twosome joined our 2 and we still were waiting on every hole. I would have liked to have seen a Marshall speed up the groups in front of us. I would expect this slow pace on a weekend Muni but not during the week here.

Fun little taste of the Austin old school

I finally had the chance to check out Onion Creek, which, back in the 1970s, was a really big deal in Austin. Swankier neighborhoods and clubs, not to mention a million or so more residents, have surfaced in town since, but there's still a lot to like about the layout here. We played the North Course, which is an interesting concept of starting out with four holes from the original 18, followed by nine newer holes from Coore-Crenshaw, wrapped up with five holes from the Original.

There are a few holes I'm not wild about. Nos. 7 and 8 don't have a whole lot to 'em. But of the C & C holes I really like Nos. 9-10 as well as the par-5 12th. Like a lot of courses laid out in the 70s-80s, the homes encroach the fairways a little too much, especially on a 2-3 club windy day that we had. We all hit a ball or two into a backyard.

I hope to come back and see how the Original routing fares, as I hear there are some good holes I missed out on.

This is a facility that is usually private but they offer some public play on occasion. It's definitely worth checking out if you need a break from some of the south side publics like Grey Rock & Clay-Kizer.

Golf trip to Austin

Four guys in Austin for a golf trip. The greens were very nice and above average speed. Some greens were a little rough. Nice practice facility. Price was ok for the golf course. Most holes are lined with homes so if not a fan of that layout you may not like the course. Overall a decent course and worth playing once.

A quiet refuge, not far from town

I played at 9 a.m. on a Tuesday, and there was nobody on the course. The course was in great shape. It is only 6,500 yds on the card, but has a nice mix of short and long holes. It's an old school design, with many driving areas strategically narrowing with trees. There are some creeks in play and some OB, but not too much to be claustrophobic. There are some moderate elevation changes. The greens were slippery from above the hole. I saw a bunch of deer on 3 different holes. A lovely round of golf.

Pristine

I was very impressed with the course conditions. The greens were the best and fastest I have played in the Austin area. The course layout was fantastic. I would highly recommend this course.

Great Layout!!

I loved all the undulations In this course. I just played it for the first time yesterday and the greens had been punched recently so the course conditions weren't ideal, but it was well worth the 50 or 60 bucks I paid on GolfNow. # 16 was closed because of the recent floods, but it's OK because you just started off by playing # 9 on the other course. Definitely better than any public course in Austin. I'm not sure if the course is usually in better condition when it has not just recently flooded, but even still it's just as good if not better as the public courses in Austin, but with a much better layout. Pretty tight, and lots of huge trees. I'm good with my long irons so I used them a lot yesterday, and left the driver in my bag most of the back nine and shot better because of it. I remember reading a review of the golf shop staff was not very friendly, and I would say that my experience was pretty consistent. I went in with that in mind so I was probably a little bit more friendly to try and nip that in the bud. Older country club, so nothing special as far as visual appeal of the clubhouse. I hear it's pretty expensive to join. Basically, anytime I can find a deal on golf now I will be back!
