Solid
Played just after very rainy spell so played 2 holes from the old course and 16 from north. Really enjoyed my round. Not long but a challenging shot-makers course.
Older Course
There is something about playing an older country club course. The trees are taller, the homes are older and there is something mystic about the course. The 16th hole was under construction because of the recent flood; so the last hole ended with #9 on the other course.
Overall condition of the course was good and the greens rolled very true.
I was happy with my experience; it helped that I shot a 78 and made two putts around 30 feet.
Great challenge
This course really does fit my game, but I love it. A great challenge and very friendly staff.
Best of Austin
I want to keep this course to myself it's the best in Austin I love it there !
Solid "Middle of the Road" Course
The value of this course is off the tee. about 4-5 greats have large burnouts but are not a HUGE factor. The "Original" has a very demanding front 9 and the back 9 plays a little easier. Fun and relaxing challenge. *Bunkers are very soft and huge trouble and the rough in spots and the ball bury very easily.*
Slight South, Slightly East, Slightly East of Eden
I played the Onion Creek Golf course this Sunday. I was looking for a new experience and a new golf experience in Austin. I’d been aware of the course for 20 years but never played it, so it was about time. I found it on the Golf Now website and decided to go for it.
First I love the location. Its very easy to get to from the the freeway and for some reason I like that. It is operated like a country club (because it is) but this is important because you it feels very relaxed and you feel all the pleasure of a conservative golf experience. That means the range is well maintained with balls placed there for you, the staff is friendly and having a pleasant time, and people are there to just serve those coming in the door rather than selling a bunch of green fees that is so prevelent today.
The course seemed very well maintained and I enjoyed the layout. The greens were very nice and rolled true. I’d say the greens were medium speed, definitely not slow. . I played the original course and I’m guessing its pretty old so it wasn’t as challenging as a modern course but that suits my game just fine.
Overall I had a great time and had the experience I was hoping for and was surprised by all the great features of the course. This is definitely the type of place I’d like to play regularly if I had the chance.
Average golf for Austin
Not too much here to talk about. Green were very firm. lots of tall grass out of the fairway. Lots of places better to play in Austin that this.
Onion Creekis in Great Shape
The Course is in wonderful condition. The rains have kept the fairways green and the greens perfect.
Excellent course
Played Onion Creek for the first time. Very pictureresqe & well maintained. Classic course with narrow, tree-lined fairways & challenging, undulating greens. No GPS on carts & fairway layout on scorecard very small to read, so had to resort to old-fashioned yardage assessment using sprinklerheads, which tied in with the vintage feel of the course. Highly recommend playing!
Short and dry these day
Course is good but not challengeable and short. This course is good for women.
When I played green was slow and not good condition but they trying to fix. Fairway was so day and hard I got more distance but uncomfortable. It was so hard to find when ball go the rough. Because side of fairway grass was too long. It is good but I do not trying to go to play again.
Wide open
Played on a Tuesday PM and the course was wide open. fairways were great. Only negative was that the greens had just been sanded, but not that big of a problem. Great hot deal through Golf Now!
Best greens in Austin
This place is pure. Skip the driving range and stay put on the putting green. Fastest greens in Austin and I love them. This is how rolling the ball should be.
Good course; great condition
Course in good condition. Greens fast and true. Can't wait to play again soon.
Pleasant Track
Played a very nice round. Fairways & greens in very good shape. First & second cut way too long & tough to find balls in. However, this is following lots of rain, so can understand challenge of keeping up w/mowing.
One nine closed, so a little confusing on holes until joined by member. Nice quick round, even on a Friday.
Lovely short course
By far the shortest course I've played but a very pleasant outing. The country club attracts an older crowd which makes the pace of play quite slow. I would play here again.
Good day at Onion Creek.
Beautiful day and course was in pretty good condition. Look forward to playing OC again.
This course was fun!
I recommend this course to seniors, because it's
not too difficult, and the greens were in perfect
condition for this time of year, not brown, or
patchy, but perfectly manicured, and an even roll.
Unpleasant Welcome !!
Course was okay....not what we expected based on photos.
- Course Marshal (George) was very helpful and courteous.
- Pro Shop was another story. Staff member was curt; somewhat rude; most unwelcoming; and inflexible towards any attempt to get us playing. We showed up early and were immediately confronted with a 'No' attitude. Little or no communication....'just wait your turn and we'll get around to you'......
--Golf experience.....to mention pace of play would be a joke out there....two groups of 5-somes (girls and guys) were in front of us....both walking. An agonizing (but common) experience that took most of the fun away from a very pleasant afternoon (weather-wise). Would we drive up from San Antonio to play this course again.....don't think so.
Classic Course That is Truly Special
Everyone from the groundskeepers, waitstaff, and clubhouse personnel were gracious and professional. The history of the course is truly special. The course is fun with 27 holes to choose from. Having the opportunity to play this course was a real treat
