Sunday Round
Front nine of original course was covered in leaves and I lost 2 balls that I know were in the fairway. This was very frustrating. Front nine is a bit boring with creek always on the right and OB on left. Some greens were in very poor condition.
Great Condition
Recovering well from recent floods. Staff/Signs could do a better job of helping those unfamiliar with the course getting around.
Hole #6 on the back nine needs a bigger/better sign to direct those unfamiliar with the course.
Additionally, the new route on the back nine needs more drinking water.
Onion Creek
My first time to play Onion Creek in Austin TX came on a sunny, hot day in August. My tee time was for 10:03, and I arrived at about 9:10. Because it was a Monday, and the course was wide open, I was allowed to start immediately, which I really appreciated by the end of the round. The course was in pretty good condition, considering that most golf courses in Texas have had the grass burned to a crisp by the last of August. Some areas were crispy, but the greens and most of the fairways were in very good shape. As the name implies, Onion Creek is set in the area hard by scenic Onion Creek. Most holes were flat, but there was a fair amount of topography in some holes as the course wound around the creek. On a couple of holes that actually went down to the bank of the creek, I saw what had to be the largest cypress trees I have ever seen- one or two that were at least 12-15 ft in diameter. I don't know if I would drive the 350 miles round trip from where I live just to play this course, but if I ever find myself in Austin with time to play, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Oh, by the way, I shot a round of 45-41- 86- most satisfying!
Bad shape
This course is in poor shape. I didn't know when I booked the tee time that there would be makeshift greens. We also didn't see a refreshment cart until our 17th hole and had to call the pro shop to get that. The round was overpriced but I can see the course has potential. It is definitely not in my top ten courses in Austin.
Average
Course wasn't in the greatest of shape, course has some nice interesting holes, overall a nice place to get a round in.
Decent driving range and nice pro shop with good selection.
Bunkers and greens where in decent shape. I'd play it again if it was in prime shape with green fairways not brown.
Great layout
The north course is very fun. It is a creative layout and makes you think. The greens are soft and fast but they don't look it. Over all I loved it.
thanks golf now for this awesome deal.
Great value, nice to see these type of courses in the golf now deals.
Onion Creek
Course was in terrible condition. Apparently due to flooding awhile back. Would not have played this course had we known the condition. Way over priced now.
Scenic course
Scenic course along onion creek. Good mixture of open fairways & tight wooded fairways. Grass on fairways excellent, most greens very good except a few with a few sparse areas.
One Nine closed Played North Course
Had a great experience on best greens we have played in a long time in this area. 5 tee boxes allows you to adjust course to your game. Beautiful driveable fairways. Greens were easily read. I wouldn't hesitate to play it again.
nice course
played here before flood. North course is in great shape
Onion creek
Mother Nature has taken it's toll on this course. There is very little grass in the fairways and the areas around the greens was splotchy with weeds and bald spots. Greens were better than fairways but still were thin. I have played this course many times in the past and enjoyed it. It will be several months before this Austin original returns to its old playing conditions.
Onion creek
There are a few spots you can tell are recovering from the October floods. But, by and large you can see what has made this course an enduring legend. Several terrain changes, aiming long irons to small greens that tend to roll true. Loved it! Foursome who had never played the course or with each other finished in 4 hours on a Satirday afternoon- a rarity indeed. That alone made it worth the price and more.
Monday outing
The north course has some challenging holes including No. 3, No. 17 and No. 18. Not particularly long, but greens have a lot of slope which can affect your final score.
recent flooding in bad condition
The recent flooding has completely closed 9 holes out of the 27 holes. Owners don't want to spend the money for repairs.
Spend your money elsewhere.
recenct rains have left it damanged
I live nearby and this course is usally in very good shape. but recenct heavy rains have left it in need of some serious repair.
Not a good deal.
Course is old, very old. Needs much attention. Suffered damaged from flooding recently. However, all the bunkers need to be rebuilt, they were terrible. Typical feeling of being not welcome from a private course. If they are trying to attract new members, they have their work cut out for them.
Nice view
Pricey for course, good if you can get a good deal on golfnow,
Historic Course
This course is a staple in the Austin golf community. I got a great deal from GolfNow ($32), which made the value for the course superb. At the regular Daily Guest Fee ($100) I would have to pass because there are other courses in the area that provide equal quality for a cheaper green fee. Its not a very long course but it will require precision and shot-making ability. The history of the course is undeniable with Senior PGA and LPGA events held here in the past. All in all, a well maintained course, with very fast greens that I would certainly recommend for a discounted GolfNow price.
