Worth the drive
This course is a good challenge. Great conditions for this year and excellent pace of play. The staff are friendly and accommodating. I try to play this course anytime I am in the area.
Bring your driving game!
14/18 holes are driver off the tee. Greens are a challenge.
The Ugly, The Bad and The Good
The Ugly ... The greeting in the clubhouse was on a spectrum from standoffish to downright rude (see some of the earlier reviews). Hard to fathom anything but excellent customer service especially when the course is relatively remote and surrounded by seasonal cottagers and tourists.
The Bad ...I played this track the year it opened and the "clubhouse" remains the same old trailer with very spartan facilities to say the least. On a sunny Monday during high season in the middle of Lake Huron cottage country and there was no service cart on the golf course. Hard to imagine.
The Good ... The golf course itself is excellent. The greens roll fast and true yet hold an approach shot. There's lots of variety in the holes and not much in the way of tricks. It's a pleasure to play and with (I think) 5 tee decks there's a yardage pretty much anyone can play from. You'll hit pretty much every club in the bag. My only complaint about the course itself would be to echo that of the other reviews - the traps could use some work and better sand.
Hidden Gem
Great shape and fantastic layout and a few picturesque holes.
Love all the Holes, great course layout
Only thing that wasn't great was the green had just been punched, and sanded, but to be expected this time of year. Grass is lush and all fairways well maintained, given the amount of recent rain
Enjoyable Course
We went to Blackhorse Sep 19 and enjoyed it. It was the first time my wife had played the back 9 and I have been there many times. The conditions were good with great turf and reasonable greens. The only complaint is the bunkers that have more stones than they should. This is a long term problem at this course.
They don't spend too much on the clubhouse etc. but concentrate on the course which is good.
Great course with fabulous backgrounds
Had a great time at one of my favorite courses. Staff was friendly, course conditions were good ( other than the greens were recently aerated - but you expect that at this time of the year)
The course was in great shape, the holes in the old sand pit are great.
It would be nice to have more info as far as distance for tee to water. also maybe a hole lay out.(drawing) some holes are blind shots. Course plays fair sand & water do come into play.
Fast and smooth greens
Very nice course. I recommend it but I wouldn't want to play this course more than once. It's just too far and it's out in the middle of no where. They do not have a club house! The pro shop and club house is a trailer! It's just a bit small time operation.
Beautiful layout and condition
The course played was very well kept, the grass was beautiful everywhere, tee boxes were not dried out and the greens were immaculate. Layout was challenging for newer folders, but someone who played regularly could see great success, as most holes were wide open, with water hazards on outskirts.
Great outing.
The course was in great condition, the bunkers however need work.
Nice Option
We played here on a day that was 34 degrees plus humidex. it was a fun day with friends. Very hot, the cart girls were nice but the guy working in the pro shop needs a serious attitude adjustment!
oh well dont let him change your plans
Nice course. Strange staff
I arrived about 1 and a half hour early to warm up. I asked the staff if I could tee off early which I was told no and had to wait to the rest of my party arrived. I was a single. So I went to the putting green and putted for over half an hour and say no one tee off.
Went back to the pro shop where the staff told me the rest of my party had showed up and I could tee off along with three other groups all at the same time. After I teed off with my party I discovered they had arrived two hours early and asked to tee off early as we'll because it was expected to rain in the afternoon. They too were denied the chance to go off.
So four groups all bunched up made play slower then it could and we did get caught in the rain.
Black Horse is a hidden Gem
Well maintained and Challenging course. Very affordable. Staff was amazing. Greens are comparable to Lora Bay. This course will challenge all levels of players.
very nice
very nice course, the course is in very nice shape.
this course is well maintained
The pro-shop staff was very unpleasantness. but I liked the course very much and enjoyed.
great greens
very nice course, played from the front tees and had some good birdy ops
Great greens, good layout.
The course has a nice variety of holes, most with generous fairways and great greens.
