Glen Lawrence review
We golfed the course in mid October - so this should be considered for the following course review. The greens were slow and shaggy. Some greens showed many dead spots. The fairways and tee boxes needed cutting more often.
The pace of play was very fast - as there were only a few golfers out there with us.
I would golf this course again - perhaps earlier in the year.
Drought hurt this course
Lots of rough patches on fairways and greens. Saw bunkers with lots of stones in them. Course hasn't been kept in playable condition this year.
The Jewel of Kingston
If you haven't played "The Glen" and you're looking for a course in the Kingston area, this is the course to play. Tucked in a beautiful landscape on highway 2 between Kingston and Gananoque, the Glen is a challenging course that will test your patience( check #17, it's no easy Par 3) but at the end of it all, there's the patio overlooking the rolling hills and no better place to enjoy a cold beer with great friends. I started golfing three years ago but this season was my first as a true golfer. On a whim, I walked in to hit a few balls but my bag was in the trunk and decided to play 9. The Glen has quickly become my "Home Course". The staff doesn't treat novices like the rookies they are(Believe me, I owe a few beer for other golfers finding my wedge on #17)but treat you like old friends. I'm going to get in a few more rounds before the end of the season and look forward to next year!
The Glen
Unfortunatley due to the harsh summer course suffered a lot of damge to the greens
Would love to try it when greens are in good playing conditions
Glen Lawrence
Excellent views and challenging course. Signature hole is challenging and breath taking.
Average course
Fairways were dry but manageable
Great Round @The Glen
Overall great round of golf and course was in great condition for an October round of golf, only improvement would have been if greens were cleaned off, wouldn't expect dew on a Saturday morning on all greens.
Good Traditional Layout
As mentioned, good traditional layout, lots of steep hills, and uneven lies, and excellent scenery. Only negative was the fact that the greens had been recently aerated which did not give a good representation of their over difficulty. Would definitely play again.
Course is in good shape
Over all had a great time. Challenging and fun course.
challenging
course is challenging in the sense of the terrain and never a flat lie.
Great value for the $
Using GolfNow app paid off huge for Glen Lawrence. Well worth the $30 including cart. Nice course. Tough greens. You'd be insane to try and walk it.
Matured Course within a Short Drive of Thousand Islands Bridge
After an easy 15 minute-drive from downtown Kingston (Ontario) you will first notice the three uphill holes on the back nine (10, 12 and 14) from the expansive deck. The view is indeed fabulous and it is easy to understand why many have chosen this location for their wedding day. But before reaching these most interesting holes, you golf skills will be challenged right away with the first two holes – where a nice draw should allow you to use the slight slope on the right-hand side to allow your ball to stop at the bottom or even further for reaching this par five in two with a mid-iron, thus almost ensuring a birdy from the outset. The next hole (No 2) should be played with a nice fade to avoid the out-of-bound on the east side of the course where you second shot will be key to a good score if you place the ball below and in line with the hole as the green has a very significant slope. (If you are a lefty player you can just reverse the ball flight on the first two holes.) These initial excitements are followed by No 3, which is an easy par three, except for the prevailing southwesterly wind that tends to push the ball to the right. The No 4 is a par five that requires a well placed second shot for betting access to the green due to the large tree nearby the left hand bunker. The greens were aerated last month and could have used a bit more sand for allowing them to return to their normal rolling standard. Front nine is considered easy to walk expect for the No 9 going back to the clubhouse, where the approach shot should always be placed near the back of the green so your ball does not roll back. The small hills on the back nine will make you feel that you are on a mountainous course. All the staff is super friendly. The menu has something for everyone with a special that will extend your stay at one of nicest country club in the thousand islands. I have enjoyed a few hot deals last month and this month, and I look forward to another great golf game at this marvelous golf course.
Great!
Great fun course! Shot my best round of the year! Nice and open :)
Very good challenge
Course layout is excellent, and in very good condition.
It is a shot maker's course.
Disappointing
We expected much better. Tee boxes were a mess. Fairways were uncut, very bumpy with many bare spots. Greens needed cutting. We paid for 18 holes but quit after 9. It was very slow on the course and just wasn't worth the time! Would not recommend this course in this rough of shape.
