Needs some TLC
I have golfed Thames for years, and have noticed that the COVID19 influenced golf boom hasn't been kind to Thames. The course conditions consistently disappoint with greens that are slow and inconsistent between holes, fairways and tee boxes that at times are as long as the rough should be. Hopefully, the staff can spend the off-season working on the fairways and greens as the layout is amazing and the location within London is impossible to beat.
Tee Times
It is very difficult to get early tee times online even at the specific time of 6:00 .m. If you are not within a nanosecond when you hit book it is not available. When you call the club house at that hour you get a voice mail. when you call later all times are filled. What do you do when you do not have access to a computer? Also II have noticed a number of holes open. Are golfers not cancelling their reservations when they don't intend to show up? It is frustrating to get up so early and log on precisely at 6:00 a.m. to discover that most if not all early tee times are gone. Also when 2 ride one cart why can't you charge1/2 price for each player? The alternative of just taking 2 separate carts has a tendency of clogging up the course. and at $19 each for a member is rather expensive.
Decent municipal golf course.
This is a very popular course very close to the city centre. It is reasonably well maintained albeit with average greens that are NOT fast. First time golfers may find this course a little challenging. For the average golfer, good course management will give you a satisfying game. Lots of shade from the hot sun. In the Fall, finding your ball among the leaves can be frustrating. The pace of play can be very variable, and without a Marshall on the course, you are bound to get unhappy golfers complaining about slow play. The half-way refreshment stop is very popular. All in all this is fair value, especially if you can get a hot deal online.
City of London courses
Three very well laid out and challenging courses for all golfers.
My two pet peeves.......nobody fixes divots on the green and how so many twosomes go out in a row. The City should police this more to better control pace of play.
Otherwise, recommend any of the courses....staff are all great.
Worse condition ever!
I used to play a lot here. Now condition is so bad. From tee to green. Terrible! Waste my time and money today.
Not pleased
First off let me start by saying I booked at tee time at 9:03. We arrived early. No one had tees off prior to us so at 8:48 we teed off. We had a foursome and in said foursome we had a first timer so I thought perfect we are teeing off 15 minutes prior we have lots of time for his extra shots. Little did I know someone off the first hole was already pushing us. We didn’t even finish the first hole before someone was teeing off. When technically they shouldn’t have tees off until 9:10. We felt rushed all day the rough was fescue the fairways were rough and the greens were fairways not a good experience at all
Slow pace of play and over booked
The course was in good condition and the fairways and greens were cut nice. Sand traps were rock hard which sucked. The worse part was the pace of place, improper golf etiquette and not letting people pass. 18 holes took 4.5 hours due to slow play and my friend and I didn’t finish due to the overbooking and backup or people. We started at 442, finished at 9 and skipped the 18 as there was tons of back log and 4 groups ahead of us.
Nice round
+fairways, greens, and rough in excellent condition
+friendly cart girl
-many ball marks on greens not repaired
-need a Marshall to keep pace of play up (one group held up everyone else)
