a good challenge
the course was good, but narrow on some of the holes. the last three holes are hard, long drives with huge hills. But enjoyed myself and will go again.
FIRE - Sad situation - what a Great back nine
Played this course 40 years ago and it's always been a memory. Such a sad situation that they had the fire and took out Most of the park. No funds really going to water and course is showing the loss. But maybe if we all support this course they can come back sometime. The back nine is really amazing in the forest - even with the burn. Worth the travel to play a famous, old style course that will challange shot making, if you can find any grass ! :-)
Terrible!
This is not a course that is worth playing if you are a regular golfer. It's basically a dry cow pasture with fuzzy greens. You can hit drives down the middle of the fairway and be sitting in dry dirt. Enjoyed being out but did not enjoy the course. Will not play here again.
This course was nice and affordable
I always golf here and I am pleased with the course
The course layout is great, but under funded.
I love the course, but it is not maintained as well as it should. The parks and wildlife department have to be more concerned with getting the park fixed after the fire. I think with a big shout out and more people playing the course they might be able to correct alot of the problems. Go play the Lost Pines Course.....
Great value and a fun course to play.
This course has tons of history and is still a lot of fun to play. Since the wildfires the features have changed dramatically and I hope they can get the proper maintenance funded to get this course back in the conditions it was before the fires. Still a great course to play, one of the friendliest golf staffs you'll find and a fair deal for the green fee.
great pace to get a round of golf in. course, carts, and staff great.

Value
We paid $10 including cart for the round. I would play the course again for that price, but I would not pay much more. The course layout is complicated, and we would not have found the next hole without the assistance of the map that was drawn by the clubhouse staff
Value oriented course
This is low stress golf. A good place to take a new golfer. Inexpensive , but you get what you pay for. The greens could use some care. Staff is super friendly and you don't have marshalls breathing down your neck. Took my 14 year old son (a new golfer) with me, so we played slow and let one twosome play through.
Haven't played it in years....was quite disappointed.
Sadly under-managed. Dead fairways, brown, dead spots on most greens. Several places on the course where direction to the Tee Box is not clear. This could be very easily fixed if someone would bother to put up a sign or two. The Tee boxes were dry and hard. It was really difficult to get the Tee into the ground more than about 1/2" without breaking it in half. I understand the summer in Texas can be quite dry, but that where sprinklers for the greens should be used...on all of them. In my opinion, they are charging too much for the condition of the course.
Change of pace -- no houses to worry about hitting :)
You should be aware that this isn't a country club nor supported by a housing community. So don't expect the best fairways, bunkers, and/or greens. But when you're in the area or wanting to try something new (to you#, then what can it hurt!? And the price is often quite good on GolfNow. Plus, playing in/near the pine trees is just nice -- again, something different than the norm. Oh, and the back nine was certainly more scenic than the front.
If this is your first time to play Lost Pines, then make sure you ask the pro shop about getting around the front nine as there are a couple of spots where getting to the next hole is not obvious. That, or memorize the following. After #1, you'll drive halfway back up the leftside of the fairway to get to the #2 tee box. After #3, keep driving straight #passing the #1 green) in order to get to #4. After #5, drive across the main Park Road 1 towards Hwy 21 and the park entrance in order to get to the #6 tee box; ignore that tee box near the #5 green as it's hole #8.
$9 wasn't worth it.
This course is terrible. The listed yardage on here is wrong, it actually plays about 5800 from the tips. Its not the most difficult course, but since the greens are torn up and the fairways lack grass it is challenging for all the wrong reasons. This is clearly a course with a lack of funds to maintain. Many of the holes have no distance markers in the fairways whatsoever, very frustrating. By far the worst course I've ever played. Save your money.
Lost Pines is a golfer friendly course that is fun to play.
Lost Pines golf course, located just inside the state park, is a good place to play if you are a beginner & don't like being crowded. And you can't beat the price.
The front 11 is more wide open with few tall pines, many oaks, several bunkers, but only 1 water hazard. (the turn is after #11) The fairways are pretty rough and few greens were patchy but it is fun to see how well you can score on this type of course. The back 7 has back to back long Par 5's ...plus another one with carry over a huge ravine after your tee shot. The 2 par 3's are easy to shoot at (150 & 130...all carry) Finishing hole is dogleg & #1 handicap. Huge pines line the back fairways so errant shots will cost you.Took my girlfriend out to play & she is just starting out golfing. No one was there and she really enjoyed the scenery & can't wait to go back. Played 18 in 2 hrs 40 min. & less than $20 for 2 green fees & a cart! Great deal thru GolfNow. Looking to play golf & enjoy the round without paying alot, this is the place.
Outstanding
A great course for the price with a staff that is there for your enjoyment.
good Course
Played this the day before memorial day. It was busy during the morning but slowed down in the afternoon. The fairways were pretty wide, and the greens were pretty difficult to read. About halfnof the greens were in good shape, the other half needed some serious work. All in all, a good course, I would definitely play it again
I will support this course because I played it when it was in tip top shape and with time it will continue to be a fun course to play for the price.

Back-9 superb, Front-9 Needs Demolitioned
This course feels quite split. The front nine, a staggering, non-contiguous set of holes, will be frightening to those who expect a modest amount of simplicity to its layout. One may finish a hole, but unbeknownst to you, the next hole is like looking for buried treasure, though without the sparkling gold coins. The signs that intended to direct you from hole to hole make one quite brazen because their locale is entirely unintuitive. Honestly, I would never play the front nine ever again; it was the worst golf experience of my life.
With that said, the back nine's quite gorgeous, with beautiful undulating elevations that give the golfer the scenic experience he/she deserves. Part of me had an "awe" moment on a few the holes, particularly hole 13. With that said, the back nine has three par fives, three par threes, and three par fours. It makes for a unique experience, never having two of the same pars back to back. If you play this course, skip the front nine and play the back nine twice. That's money saving.
Horrible conditions
This course was horrible. Greens were aerated and big holes everywhere. Fairways were hard as a rock. Sand all over the green
Great Price for a state park
The course was not super challenging. The fairways were dry and hard. The greens were sandy and not very well maintained. But for the price it was a wonderful time playing out in Bastrop. The isolation let's you take your time out there. I'll be back.
