Bad weather
We've played this course before and it's beautiful unfortunately this time we got rained out after only six holes there was standing water on all the fairways and the course should have been closed before we started due to lightning in the area I felt we were treated kind of like second-class citizens in the Pro Shop due to the fact that we were on a golf now hot deal
A course you love to hate
Don't know why I like this course. Very very tough, with some holes unfair. But I keep coming back. Beautiful scenery and something about it.
Challenging
Second time in 10 days - MUCH more manageable with prior knowledge. Score improved by ten strokes just knowing where to aim - especially on the "blind" holes.
Great value at the "hot deals" price. Slope is 125 from the white tees - 5600 yds
Great course.
Challenging but fun. Saw a family of deer and a turtle on the course.
Fantastic Track
Sometimes when you use a Hot Deal, the golf course people can be obnoxious about your using of Golf Now. For such a high end course, in an affluent area; the people at the Rock were very accommodating and friendly. We just happened to stumble upon a phenomenal deal, and the course was well worth the hour drive to get there. The course was in great shape, greens rolled true and quick (but not crazy on the stimpmeter). Be warned though, that it is a tough track that requires good shots and playing from the right set of tees. A couple of holes are a bit quirky, but overall it is very fun to play.
No Services
I expected so much more because I got hardly anything. This was the first and probably only visit to The Rock.
Arriving in the bag area, No one there. Checking in the pro shop, no one there. A first class golf club would have someone always around to greet their guests. But not at The Rock.
Driving in from Toronto and the restaurant does not serve breakfast? They only had THE worst previously frozen muffins that were tasteless and soggy. Disgusting. Strike three and we haven't even teed off yet.
The golf was good. Thankfully! The course was in good condition. The greens were annoying. The ball rolls off even though you hit the green.
The next and last mistake was staying for a drink and meal before heading back. The food at The Rock is terrible. We should have left and eaten at McDonalds in Gravenhurst. That is how bad the restaurant is. The crispy wings were soggy (again) and drowning in a awful BBQ sauce. The Rock poutine was apparently the worst thing my buddy has ever tasted.
Grandview, Taboo, Rocky Crest or Lake Joseph is a lot better and you get some service too.
Taboo is at least closer too. Save the extra drive and go there.
Scenic and well maintained course
Always a real treat to play Nick Faldo's design.
Beautifull layout carved around our Canadian shield.
A must play when vacationing in the Muskokas.
Very difficult course not enjoyable.
I was looking forward of playing this course with my wife. We have played around the world. First, they are no marshalls the pace is extremely slow and the people I played with were not very plaisant and made experience not enjoyable. If you are an average golfer avoid this course. The layout is unforgiving, the fairways are narrow and the greens very difficult. The staff is the most unfriendly that I ever had to deal with. If you can avoid this course.
Beauty in muskoka
We played the rock after it rained all week and got rained on a bit during play. The course was in pretty good shape with all the weather and no pooling in the fairways. Greens move fast and bunkers make it challenging (best bunkers I've seen in a while, even when wet). Not an easy course and smart golf is key to scoring well.
Picturesque views and random wildlife make this a great course. Rock face randomly throughout the fairways and lining the course make it an unique experience with the occasional members bounce. Definitely up there with other challenging courses in Ontario. A solid 4 stars, better pricing would give it 5 stars.
I Would definitely play it again on nice sunny summer day.
Good golf course bad service
The service was disgusting at this golf course, we entered to a pro shop with at least 5 people working and no one came to our aid until we asked and then the members of the staff proceeded to stare at us. Other than that it was a well maintained golf course, good work grounds crew!
Stunning
Beautiful course
Well maintained but no Marshall out when we played, however we were lucky that rate of play was good.
The Rock
Always a pleasure to play this track. Played with my wife July 28, my second time in the week. Great layout, quick greens and staff always hospitable. Great area!!
