Would definitely play this course again!
Well manicured and challenging! Many narrow fairways and blind doglegs will keep you on your toes all day...
Great track...needs drainage... pricey
Played here on Thanksgiving Monday.... not sure how much rain they had, but must have been quite a bit because it was cart path only.... driving range closed. Was a tad annoying. Course could use some better drainage in fairways
But I will admit it was a beautiful course... nice layout of holes and challenging. You definitely use most clubs in the bag, and driver is not always the club to hit off the tee. Greens were in good shape. Tee boxes had been hacked up pretty good though
A tad pricey for the round when you factor in cart. $95 with taxes on a holiday Monday... Always wanted to play here, and the weather was great.
Fall Delight
Beautiful day to golf. Love this course. Recommend to anybody to play here. Worth the extra cost compared to local courses. None can compare to quality. Only issue today was waiting at every tee. Pace was close to 4-1/2 hours. Greens in great shape, even the traps seem better. You must play here.
Fun day
We had a really fun day We started at 12:40 pm and finished just before they blew the siren at 5:06 pm.
Fall delight
Always a great time at Willow. Did notice 16th fairway in rough shape compared to the rest of the course. Greens quick as usual. Staff great. Excellent Covid precautions.
Best course in Hamilton area
Always a great day when playing golf at Willow Valley. This course is second to nobody when it comes to cart cleanliness and Covid protection. Today’s round was just like most rounds here. Pace of play is 4 hrs with this 10 minute tee times. Entire golf course is pretty good from tee to green. Greens had some minor issues early in the season, but now in very good shape along with quickness. Marshall’s make their rounds as well as the cart girl. Looking forward to my next round at Willow Valley.
Willow Valley
Error occurred during online booking. Staff acted quickly and awesomely to rectify the problem and make sure I could still get my round in!
Greens were a little hard (wedges bouncing at times) which was mildly frustrating but to be expected considering the lack of rain we’ve had
Overall, an awesome afternoon!
Still a great course
Even in all of this heat, course management is doing as good as they can to keep this course in great shape. They are watering every day, yet the fairways are struggling to stay green. Having said that, the greens are in pretty good shape. The pace of play was excellent this week, playing at 3-1/2 hours. Speed of greens probably getting up to 10 or so. Still one of the best courses in the area, a must play.
Course getting in very good shape
Maintenance out on the course looking after the fairways, tee blocks and greens. Greens are starting to get back to last years quality. Some aeration took place on Monday, but again it’s a step to improve them and get the speed up like last season. What keeps this course the most challenging, is the rough around the greens. Your approach needs to be accurate, as the trouble really begins with those delicate chips out of the green side rough. Followed by their fast greens. Pace of play is quite good, thanks in part to the starter keeping the separation at 10 minute intervals. Played in less than 4 hrs. Good job to Willow Valley and their supporting staff.
Hot, Hot and Hot
We played early morning, but it was still a very hot, humid day. Course is improving from earlier in the year. The rough is drying spots, but what can you expect with no rain in quite some time. The fairways, tee blocks and greens are in very good shape. Plenty of watering going on there. Greens are starting to reach 2019 speed (fast), not there yet. Always a pleasure to play here. We completed our round just over 3-1/2 hours (really good speed for a foursome).
Speed of greens improving
Still one of the best courses in the Greater Hamilton area. Greens are starting to get some speed to them. Not like last year, where they were very fast. All in all, the course is in good shape (still the greens are burnt in some locations) What makes this course tough is the rough around the greens. If the pin is close to you when taking a wedge chip from 1-4 yds off the green, the fear of getting your club caught in the grade of the grass is very real. Pressure is not the same if the pin is middle of green or far end. The dense near fringe grass can cause you multiple strokes if not played correctly. This is what I personally enjoy about the course. Once the greens pick up speed, it gets even tougher. Pace of play was good, could be better, as some groups feel they paid the same and are entitled to go where they want with the carts and take 4-1/2 hours to play. Regardless if they are 2 holes behind after 12 holes and just over 3 holes behind after 18. That’s my frustration. Could have been a 3-3/4 hr round, instead about 4 hr 20 min.
Greens need help
This is one of my favourite courses to play. As the season started I was pleased to see they were adding a new sand in their traps. Definite improvement over past 2 years. Unfortunately it appears they may have poorly applied fertilizer to the greens and fairways. Could be lack of water, but I am no expert. Weeds are starting to appear in the fairways and the greens are in my opinion burnt. I am sure they will get this sorted out soon. All in all the layout is good. The pace of play is great and hope they stay with 10 min tee times.
Very Disappointed
in past years, Willow Valley has been one of the top rated golf courses in my area. This year(2020), the course has deteriorated to the point where our group(s) are not interested in playing there any longer. The course was always in immaculate shape with the best greens in the area (fast and smooth). W.V. hired a new greenskeeper and he has basically destroyed the greens ...most are getting burned out as well as tees and fairways. I appears this person is does not really have a clue what he is doing.
Much more of this disaster and our groups will not be returning.
Always a Pleasure
Greens not at 100% yet, but improving. Starting to get some speed, but some greens are patchy. 10 minute tee times keeps the flow moving well. Pace of play ranges between 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 15 minutes based on when you play during the day. No more backups at certain holes, specifically 2-3 and 13-14. Fairways, rough and even the sand traps are in very good shape. Staff always pleasant here and club is always making improvements to the facility. Great job!!
A Tale of Two Nines
Course is a good challenge. Front nine is more easier than the back nine. I thought holes 7-9 were an after thought as if the architect ran out of room on the property. Greens were slow, but course has been open for a week - so not going to complain. Back nine was really challenging. I would play here again once I’m in mid-season form.
Unless your advanced, I wouldn't bother
Weather was great and staff are very friendly. Got a reduced rate for seniors. Course is extremely challenging. I am an intermediate golfer and can drive the ball 200 yards from the ladies' tees. Greens are lightening fast and the day we played every hole was on a slant. There are not a lot of flat lies, so you have to be accurate and good at placement. I lost 4 balls and was frustrated most of the day and couldn't wait for my round to be done. I won't go back, but if you like a challenging course, it has very nice views. You have to play in 4 hours because folks get restless.
Very tough from the rough
Great pace of play at 9:00 am. Played it in just under 4 hours. Very windy (about a 2 club wind) and cool day, but it’s typically always windy at Willow. Since the start of the season, the rough has been tough, but this week it seemed thicker and longer. Tough in the fairways, but around the greens it was extremely tough. Seemed to be cut in such a way that you were against the flow of the growth. The short pitch, just a foot or two off the green was very tough. Club would grab in the grass, this not releasing the ball. The greens and fairways were in very good shape. Shot +1 on back 9, two double bogeys (challenging rough) and three birdies.
