RETURN TO WHIRLPOOL
I have not played this course in 11-12 years and my wife and I were looking for a late in the season outing and chose Niagara area due to the weather forecast, a Golfnow deal for the course and the fact we had enjoyed this course in the past.
Unfortunately the weather man was optimistic, never got above 8 C accompanied by a cold wind. We survived.
However, course was VERY wet due to heavy recent rains and carts were path only which stretched the round to 4 1/2 hours and we didn't wait on a tee after the 3rd hole.
it was the last open day here, so may be why they allowed us out at all. Many fairways and even a tee box were saturated with pools of water on surface and all bunkers were flooded.
My course condition of average is based on this, not really their issue, staff was very friendly and course has been in fine shape in past.
That notwithstanding course did not play as tight as in past, maybe because most of the leaves were off the trees, but i think a few trees may have been removed since my last round here. (not like I'm driving straighter!) Greens were wet but in good shape. Nice layout, with some scenic holes and saw some small deer beside one hole.
Best parts of the day were John and Bob, from Fort Erie, who were paired with us and some of the best company we have ever had on a round of golf. Very pleasant and patient, sorry if we slowed you guys up. John has game too!
Course is on next years play list; hoping for drier conditions.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the course despite the wet conditions. We look forward to hosting you again next season!
We played at the Legends Niagara instead of Whirlpool because it was frost in the morning.
Legend course was excellent as well.
Thank you very much. We hope you'll get another chance to experience Whirlpool next time you're in the area.
It was cool, about 7C but I was prepared and did feel cold at all. The course was in fantastic shape. No plugged shots and a fair bit of roll. The greens were pretty quick and the staff has done a good job of keeping leaves away from greens. The rough was cut fairly short which helps at this time of the year. I have played here a few times this summer and the conditions today were summer like.
Thank you very much, we hope to see you back again next Spring.
flat and straight almost every holes
not much fun to play
one thing to surprise to me is many deer around the course
Sorry to hear you didn't like the layout. Maybe next time you're in the area you can try our other facility, Legends on the Niagara. Legends has two 18 golf courses to choose from.
What a beautiful course
I can’t believe how well the drainage is at this course. It poured rain the night before and there was no puddles in the fairways nothing. I barely saw anyone all day it was like having my own private club. Staff was great I’ll definitely be back
Glad to hear you enjoyed the experience with us. Hope to see you back soon.
Just a really nice golf course!
This course has been run by the Niagara Parks Commission for many, many, years and has continued to be in outstanding shape. The fairways are nicely manicured and have this "lush" look to them. The ball more often than not, sits up almost like sitting on a piece of carpet.... The staff there, do a fantastic job and should really be commended for how hard they work. Excellent facilities there, as well.
Going back to the course itself, it can definitely present a nice challenge and when playing from the tips, this is a pretty nice length for just about everyone. One of my favorite courses in the Niagara Region.
Thank you very much! We'll be sure to pass on your comments to our team. We hope to see you again soon.
The Whirlpool is a great course. It is challenging but fair, and like most courses, there is a huge premium for hitting it straight. The setting is beautiful and the course is well maintained.
On the day we played it was cart path only which made for a long day. The course is long with generous fairways and so at times it was well over a 50 yard walk to my ball. This made it slow and almost a 5 hour play time.
I have played the course many times and never with cart path only rule. The pace of play can be slow at times but is generally good. It is one of my favourite courses and I would highly recommend it.
Glad to hear you enjoyed our course despite the cart path only ruling. We've had a lot of rain lately. Hopefully Mother Nature cooperates soon.
Wet but good
Course was quite saturated with all the rain but was still in good condition. Quite a good round considering. They do an excellent job maintaining this course and it is still one of my favourite places to play.
Thank you, hope to see you back again soon before the season ends.
Love the layout of course and in great shape lots of room if you spray the around definitely one of my favorites
Thank you very much! We hope to see you again soon before the season ends.
Excellent staff, beautiful, well manicured course!
Thank you very much, we hope to see you back again soon.
Aeration of greens
The greens were aerated the day before. It was not mentioned on their web site. We decided not to play.
Sorry to hear the greens were aerated and you weren't aware of this. Typically this is mentioned online, we'll look into this further.
Very picturesque course. Greens and bunkers were in good shape, tees were pretty torn up. The helicopters were a bit over the top but you get use to it.
Sorry about the helicopters, they can be loud at times for sure.
allways a great course to play, great shape and fast greens
Thank you very much!
The only shortcoming are the fairway traps - light on sand and too many lonnng par 4s, I'm thinking 7, 8 and 10. But I like the traditional look, mature trees, pleasant staff, electric carts. I forgot to mention the helicopters - real pain. But I keep coming back!
Sorry about the Helicopters, they definitely can be distracting.
