14th tee at Glen Abbey. One of the toughest drives on tour. Photo submitted by Chris5757223 on 02/12/2016
Good conditions. Amazing practice area.
Course is in good condition unlike about 10 years ago.
Nice to see they have put it back into prime condition.
Amazing practice area built for the PGA tour players.
Staff was very nice.
Very much enjoyed my day.
A treat to play
Heard a lot about the course from TV. As being a past PGA tour stop and with the pricey fees [though I saved a bundle using Golf Now] I expected trimmed pathways, cart service, etc. Certainly the course lacked compared to the many othes in the area. You can feel ClubLink's future development plans due to the lack of attention to details. That said, though, and removing my preconceived expectations, the course itself was in terrific shape. Watered and lush fairways [dry at most other courses due to lack of rain], beautifully rolled and true greens, plus awesome vistas. And of course, it's all about the company you keep that makes the day - so the "experience" was awesome!. :-)
Beautiful scenery
Not only was the course spectacularly beautiful, we had the place to ourselves. This was particularly important to me as I was taking a couple of my best clients.
Late afternoon Tee off
Took my son out for a late afternoon tee time booked a short time before on golf now, course was in good condition and the pace of play was excellent.
Amazing Experience
Beautiful course and friendly staff. Will definitely be back.
Glen Abbey
This course is still a pleasure to play when it is in prime condition, as it was on this day. It is criminal to consider bulldozing it for real estate!
Maintenance crew
I am not a Club Link member, but I try to play the Abbey at least 1-2 times per year. I love the course !!! But…pace of play always seems to be an issue, never saw a marshal once. Simply put, the group ahead of us was playing from the gold tees and they had no business doing so, this slowed things down immensely.
Having said that, I do expect slow play at the Abbey. What I didn’t expect was “disrespectful “ maintenance staff. On the 9th hole, our group was preparing to take our approach shot, when we noticed the maintenance guy watering the green. He then waved at us to hit our shots…with him standing just off the green and the hose draped across the back of the entire green…Really???
On some other holes, the “crew” driving their carts, didn’t even stop to wait for us to hit, and continued driving as we teed off. Unacceptable for a course like Glen Abbey.
Thankfully, the course is so nice and the rest of the staff was professional and courteous.
Burnt out
Course was brown in many areas
Tons of ball marks on the par 3’s
Minimal sand in the bunkers
Cart paths are getting bumpy
Glen Abbey review
Glen Abbey has always had challenges in course conditioning except for the one week a year they have intermittently hosted the Canadian Open but it’s quite clear that Clublink has stopped putting any funding into course or infrastructure improvements. While greens were good on July 10, the rest of the course was baked out and quite rough in many spots. And the cart paths and other infrastructure of the course are decidedly poor. Even though I got a “good” deal on GolfNow for this round, I’m pretty sure I won’t pay to play at GA again. And I’ve got a sneaky suspicion this is what Clublink wants to see happen so they can justify their push to have the golf course land converted to residential and commercial uses.
Love this course
Glen Abbey is a one of a kind challenge. There are so many excellent holes. Played off the blue tees, and even in a best ball format we felt pushed by two-somes. That would be my only concern.
