The course has 3 nines
We enjoyed playing two of the three nines. You could easily walk the course however we decided to ride.
Play was fast
Friendly staff. Course we'll laid out.
Value for your dollars
This is a $35 to $50 dollar course and for that price it's worth playing. I would not pay more than that to play this course
Shanty Bay Golf Course
I was very impressed with this course.
Very well kept.
Wonderful Weather/ Wonderful Course
We played Nov. 7th in 18C weather. Course was in great shape and not covered with leaves.
Staff were very friendly and Debbie's Chili after our round was excellent.
We enjoyed our day so much we went again on Thurs.
Nice course.
It always been a nice course with friendly people. Greens hadn't been airated like most courses in this area , nice treat. The course was in good shape. The one thing to be careful about, is the fairways are close together so errand shots may come your way. Another issue is a lot of blind shots , so be careful and courteous of the golfers in front of you. I would defiantly would play it in the future.
November Golf!!!
In Central Ontario it is hard to find a golf course that remains open and weather you want to play in after mid October.. That happened for me November 2nd. ☺I drove South for an hour and forty minutes through the fog to play 27 hole Shanty Bay near Barrie.
Staff is always friendly and accomodatinhg though this time of year food was limited to a delicious pumpkin spice soup, chil or sandwhich.
Greens were great, fairways good. Pace was a little slow because everyone wants to play when the sun and temperature are up. And the sun came out and it was a perfect day for November Golf so no one cared if you had to wait a few minutes to hit your next shot.
This is my third time to play this little gem. I hope to play there again on the next plus 10 degree November day.
Great Day Fun Golf
October 19, 2016, 20 Celsius great weather course in good condition.
Good fall round
Nice October day. Sun was out, temp low 10's. Course in good shape, leaves on the trees in full colour, leaves on the ground did not cause many issues with lost balls.
Great service
friendly helpful staff. Course in good shape.
A True Pleasure & Challenge
Overall, well maintained course & very slick greens. Although there are several blind shots on the Klondike course the layout is straightforward and will force even the experienced golfer to be in control of your fairway woods long iron shots. Highly recommended!
Great Deal. Great staff
Saw the deal the night before and as I had played the course before I knew I was getting excellent value for money.
Speed was good. Staff were excellent.
Will be sure to return
If I could improve one thing. I felt the fairway grass was a little long. Maybe as we were out early?
Pleasantly suprised
The greens were in good shape considering the HOT summer. fairways were dry. no delay , The 2 of us finished in 3 hours
Sales
Considering how dry it has been lately the course is in good shape. The Greens were firm and in good condition as well.
Trying to be something it is not, pricey for what it offers. Some really bad hole designs too.
Finally played this after living in the area for a long time and never getting out to it. I don't really understand what people find so "nice" about this course from who I have talked to. I understand we have had no rain but while other courses in the area for the same price or less are watering fairways and are green while Shanty Bay the fairways in some spots are rock hard and just dead, they seem to only be watering the greens a lot and the tee boxes a lot but fairways are getting no love, can't even tell where the fairway starts and the rough ends.
Other than the poor fairways, some of the greens were quite bumpy (putts just randomly turning on flat spots) and a lot of the greens are turtleback designs oh and every single green had a sprinkler head right in the middle of the green...But the worst part was just really dumb hole designs. Our threesome played Klondike and Frontier, Klondike was quite enjoyable but a lot was left to desire because the only obstacles to really watch for was the couple holes that had a tree right in the middle of the fairway, lots of blind shots and a completely blind par 3 (#7). But the worst of it came on Frontier, I do not know what the heck whoever designed this was thinking...So the first 4 holes are nice and enjoyable and straightforward...and then you get to hole 5 and realize yes it really is a 237 yard par 3! That has a tree right in front of the middle of the green really not allowing you to hit anything but a super high launching 3 wood, I mean we all aren't Jason Day...if your gonna have a 237 yard par 3 then get rid of the tree restricting complete access to it. Myself and my other partner in our threesome are both low single digit handicappers and we both couldn't get on the green in 1 because of the tree. The next hole is also a rather confusing one, it is a 444 yard par 5 with no forced carries and really nothing that makes it challenging, ok a gimme hole simple but what comes next is just plain stupidity. So after hole 6 you then go to 7 when you are greeted to yes another 450 yard hole but wait, this time it is a par 5 with a forced carry and some trees surrounding the green, and even slightly up hill. So can someone explain to me how a 444 yard hole is a par 5 and then it is followed up by a uphill forced carry 450 yard par 4?
tl;dr - Frontier is an absolutely horrible layout from the Blues, Klondike is ok. Greens bumpy, fairways dead, basically no bunkers, turtleback greens.
