Great fall day for golf! Photo submitted by jonefraser on 10/20/2012
Not Happy
The course was in great shape. The greens were a little slow but rolled nice. But that's probably because of time of year. My only peevs. Were I had purposely booked a time that only had 2 pots available as I was playing as a single. But the starter decided that he would send the 2-some out without me. So I had to play alone. His suggestion was I play quickly and maybe I can catch up and join the 2 in front of me. Thanks. But that idea was denied when the 4 some in front of them let them play through. So I played 2 balls and eventually another single caught up to me on the back 9 and I finished my round with him. And my second peev was the kitchen being closed when I made the turn. It was only 4pm when I made the turn. And I was hungry. Oh well. Still a nice course. I will probably play there again. Just won't be in a hurry to play there alone again.
I love this course
Playing at Pheasant run is one of the most stunning and enjoyable rounds of golf you'll play. Elevation changes and undulated greens that are both challenging and fair. From a risk reward standpoint. It's my own personal favourite.
Wow, David - Thanks!
Your comments are a better pick-me-up than a strong cup of coffee!
Its the best to be on someone's list of personal favourites***
Challenging layout yet interesting
Course maintained in wonderful condition. Spring rate makes it excellent value for money. Staff are friendly. Will surely play this course again.
I like to think we offer about the best value anywhere, anytime of the year. The spring has some great pricing, for sure, but the summer is when the experience here really shines.
Please come back as everything comes to life here later on this season.
This course has great feature
This is one of the best courses I have played ever since . Good layout and feature . I will play more this year on this course
Hello Lu,
It's pretty exciting, isn't it, when course conditions are so good this early in the spring?
I'll bet you're going to have a lot of fun with golf here this year. Thanks for writing
Challenging
Good conditions for early spring ..Great layout and very challenging
Fantastic Fall round
Delayed for frost but fantastic conditions.
The frost can really delay your start this time of year. Luckily 27 holes allows us to use double tees once it clears. Usually we can get everybody back on schedule with little interruption, but it might be a good idea to check with the course if you think frost could be out there.
Blind
I played first time this course.
They didn't have any course information we only used mile stones.
Fairways are so narrow and some sloppy I lost many balls. The golfers need accurate their shots.
The fairway's condition is good.
Hello Sheriya,
This place can be treacherous to the uninitiated! Thanks for checking us out for the first time. I think you'll find the course will be more rewarding after you've been out a few times. Certainly, its not a course you can take for granted!
what a pleasant surprise
we wanted to book another course nearby and lost the chance Found Pheasant Run and booked it....not expecting much....wow what a great club.....just North of Toronto we expected a flat layout...what we got was a mountain like layout with numerous elevation changes and tree lined to the point that looking down the fairways you feel like you better walk single file...Many holes are tricky so playing it safe can be beneficial. Hole 5 Highlands you look down to 2 ponds on both sides of 150 yd marker...then the fairway goes up hill to green....take driver and go across pond...there are flat spots to give you level lie...Greens were slick and undulating...had a few tough pin placements where ball rolled off after the hole...Staff were very accommodating...food excellent on the patio. A great day
Hello Picky,
It makes my day to read your comments. We've got some fantastic holes here, but I start to take it for granted and it sometimes takes a review like yours to make me sit up and see it with fresh eyes. My only regret is that you didn't know about us before this- we've been here for over 35 years and aren't about to go anywhere, anytime soon. I hope we get you back to see us next time you're in the area!
Are you challenge this course?
Course conditions are very good.
Green is nice, too.
Hello Kein,
Thanks for the 5 Star 'Excellent' recommendation.
Course conditions have been great this year and are only getting better with the early- fall temperatures. The grass colour really pops at this time of year!
Good maintenance
Good maintenance. Grass keep well even so little rain in this year weather
Thanks for the feedback, Edleyyz!
It has been a long hot summer, but we're very lucky to be able to irrigate enough to keep in good shape. Thanks for noticing and thanks for the strong rating!
The course has wonderful features
The course was great.
Greens condition was perfect. So i'll go there again with my friends.
Very nice courses^^!!!
Hello Angelmom,
Thanks for the solid post. I find the best grass conditions are always found in September. Right now the place looks like a Shining Emerald Jewel! Please get out as much as you can while the beautiful late summer weather lasts!
crab grass on the course
I was surprised to find quite a lot of crab grass on the course !
Hey, Joe....
We have been battling crabgrass for the past 4 or 5 years. It has felt like an invasion! Most courses in our area have noticed a huge upswing recently. We treat for it every year, but its very costly just to keep it out of our fairways and tees. Luckily, its at its worst for only a few weeks (right about now!) - then,as an annual weed, it dies off. We'll do our best to keep it out of the main play areas- you do your best to keep your ball on the fairway!
One of the best courses I have played at
The course was very well maintained. The pace of play was excellent as we played straight through.
Will be back to play.
5 Star- Excellent!
Thanks for the highest rating ,Karif! Our Starters take extra care, timing play to make the best pace possible. It doesn't always work out perfectly, but we pride ourselves on keeping things flowing without interruption.
We'll be looking forward to your return
Great Course
I enjoyed my game and would definitely come back again. Staff were very friendly.
Hey Rich,
All the way from Etobicoke! Thanks for making the trip out and see you again soon!
Beautiful Course
First 9 holes were amazing. The course is in great shape, super peaceful, everything is so green with some picturesque views. The second 9, still beautiful but we were stuck behind a foursome that apparently had no clue what pace of play means. I should have known what we were in for when we spotted the one "golfer" In a fluorescent tshirt that would make WHAM proud.
No matter, very nice course, give it a try.
Hello David,
Sounds like overall a good experience except for some other players. We've stepped up marshalling this year to try to keep things moving as they should, but with 27 holes, sometimes they aren't always where they can be the most help. If it happens to you again, please call the proshop- we'll dispatch someone immediately to your exact spot to help smooth out the pace.
Narrow well groomed fairways
Very tough opening holes. Great conditioning and friendly staff and starters.
You're right, those opening holes are all tough. At least you get to cruise in to the turn on a few easier '9's' - except, of course, Midlands #9. My Men's Night partner cringes whenever we have to finish on that hole!
Hello J.
Thanks for the feedback- I'm sorry you had to play alone. Our Starters can require groups to accept additional players, but its a little hard to force when the course is not busy, like in April. Early season also requires F&B management to make decisions like closing service if traffic is very light. You should have been able to access some light snacks and beverages through the proshop counter- I'll check to see whether that was made available to you. Regular cafe hours start May 1st and are posted to avoid disappointment. Full services will be under way when you come out next!
