Good service, poor to fair golf
Staff at pro shop, F&B areas were friendly and courteous. Golf experience was poor to fair. Pace of play was extremely slow, greens and fairways needed a cut or 2, and because of the tight course layout, many errant tee shots criss crossing holes.
I'm also a gold clublink member and I'm very disappointed this facility does not offer convenient reciprocal play for members. I understand more money is made for public play, but remember, we also spend money on pro shop and F&B.
Overpriced for what you get, far cry from a premium facility.
I used to playRolling Hills all the time, going back to when Bethesda Grange was the Championship course. I haven't played here in some time (since before COVID) and unfortunately I was thoroughly disappointed with their "premium" course.
It all started right after I parked my car. No bag drop area.... I get you can drive the cart back to the car to get them, but I dislike making multiple trips back and forth. I want to park my car, drop my clubs by the clubhouse (I'll usually carry them as I walk to the pro shop to check in, but I was surprised there was no area to drop my bag outside the pro shop. Minor irritation, but whatever. Upon entering the pro shop, there were 3 people sitting at the cash. I was the only person in the shop at the time, and not one of the 3 took the initiative to welcome me, or ask me if I was checking in. I had to force the conversation to start.
After I paid for my cart, I walked outside to grab one, no direction of which carts I can take, just a general area where the carts were being washed. The cart I ended up taking still had garbage inside it, but I didn't have any other option as it was the first cart in line that was accessible.
I arrived at the first tee, where I was greeted by the starter, who was phenomenal and what I would expect from a course of this price. Great conversation, friendly, welcoming. A nice turn around from my experience so far.
Once I teed off, it was pretty much downhill from there. Fairways are relatively well kept all considering it's earlier on in the season. Rough is manageable and tough but fair. Bunkers are relatively well kept, but the absence of rakes in many is a bit frustrating. As well as some larger rocks in the bunkers as well. The worst part of the course, the greens. There was, and I am not exaggerating, almost no difference between the fairways and the greens. Grass was LONG. And incredibly slow, very bumpy as well. Probably the worst greens I've played on in some time. Not for divots etc, but just for the length of the grass. It was near impossible to get a clean roll on the ball and they were so slow due to the length you're having to hammer your putts.
Pace of play during the front 9 was fine, however the back 9 was a stark contrast. After 12 holes, we were waiting for at least 5 minutes before teeing off. Consistently 3 groups per hole, sometimes 4. No marshal anywhere in site. This continued for the remainder of the back 9
Also only 1 porta potty on the course, really? We're paying just shy of $100 a round for weekend prime time rates and there's a porta potty on a course that boasts a multi million dollar Reno in 2012?
I left feeling extremely disappointed by a course I used to thoroughly enjoy playing. The overall course design is excellent. But if your greens are as terrible as this, none of the other stuff matters. I'll be taking my money elsewhere going forwards.
Early season greens - slow
Only complaint relates to the greens. It is early season and they are expected to be a bit slow. These were extremely slow. But I will go back when the weather gets better
Good value course
Has some challenging holes. Fairway and green are usually in decent condition. Overall great value for your money
Rough shape
I’ve played this course quite a few times and this is the worst condition I’ve ever seen it. I know it’s early in the season but I’ve played 4 other courses already this year and none of them looked like this.
Greens rolled like fairways, tee boxes were rough length and pace of play was brutal. Not to mentioned it was almost $100 with tax to walk. It’s too bad it used to be a decent track. I’ll never play here again.
One of my main courses in the area, amazing that there are 3 18 hole courses there. Bethesda being the best of the 3, price is decent for a Sunday morning round, twilight rates are fantastic. Always enjoy playing, have yet to play the challenge but have played the classic twice, very fun.
Great spring conditions
Bethesda Grange in great condition - the greens a little slow- but overall fun time
Rude staff on the first hole
Absolutely arrogant and rude worker that works st the first hole and checks ppl in. Super rude and rushed everybody
