Looks can be deceiving
This course has gone from pristine to a mediocre commercialized money grab in the last couple of years. Tee decks were in the worst shape I have ever seen them, greens were rolling reasonably fast but public players do not repair ball marks which makes putts full of landmines leading to bumpy rolls. The course needs to reconsider layout, elevation changes make mid handicap golfers struggle. A major problem that I encountered specifically for the round was no pace of play enforcement + a in-cart GPS that would constantly advertise and not display how many yards to the hole after pressing the screen multiple times! In terms of cost relativity for what you receive at Tangle Creek, I would rate it a C+ to D- at best on the golfer report card. Better value exists with other courses in the area.
Worth the trip
Beautiful, well maintained course. Staff were all friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to another round here.
Thanks for the great comments! Hope to see you at the club again soon!
Greens are nice - medium speed
Good value given the layout and course conditions. We teed off just after 8am and it was a 4 hour round. Good work by the staff marshal trying to help a slow group in front of us. It can be extra tough to keep a good pace if you’re spraying the ball around the course. I did notice a lot of the markers were moved up (probably to help pace) so for those that are good players keep that in mind.
I am glad you enjoyed your round. Thanks for your feedback!
Challenging course
I’m not a very experienced golfer but I love to get out and try different courses. I’ve played here before and found it difficult, losing about a half a dozen balls. This time I lost 3 balls on the first hole because it would roll to the skirts of the fairways into the long bushes. I was not impressed and after that I looked upon this course as very narrow due to all of the long grasses. Once your balls roll into the grass it’s like the Bermuda Triangle. Bring extra balls and patience. Lol very challenging with lots of hazards. Unless you’re a 10 handicap player, I would recommend it.
My favourite
My favourite coarse, loved it for all its years.10 out of ten in every category.
Thank you for your continued support of the club! It is great to hear about satisfied customers.
Consistently Good
Playing Tangle Creek is always a treat. Course conditions were very good. Greens ran true. Never disappointed.
Thanks for your great review!
Fathers Day
Expected it to be busy but left after 16 holes at almost 5 hrs.
We apologies for your experience at the club. Contact me directly anytime and I will address your concerns.
Thank you for the great review!
First round of the year
We chose Tangle cuz I purchased a VIP package which is an incredible deal, 4 green fees, no cart, 4 x 2 for 1 green fees, no cart and 4 x 25% off in the lounge all for $199. Played this course for years and it’s always been great imho, well kept, challenging for a weekend warrior but fair. The greens were a little spotty here and the but I suppose with the rain and late frost and cold we’ve had it must be hard on the greens. I hope they continue to cut some of the thick stuff so when you get off the fairway as I often do, there’s a chance of finding the ball. Look forward to going back soon..
Thank you for your continued support!
Thanks For The Great Review! Hope To See You At The Club Again Sometime Soon!
Terrible
Booked the night before for a 918 tee time for 1 through GolfNow. Showed up to the course at 9. Booked in and paid. Walked up to starter and was told that I didn't make the tee sheets and there were multiple groups of 4 ahead. Could not get out with a group of 3 until 10. I returned to the clubhouse and the course blamed it on GolfNow. I was a member there over 10 years ago. The place is extremely mismanaged and hasn't changed at all. Will not return.
Luke,
I want to personally apologize for you experience at the club. Your comments and feedback will help us to become a better operators in the future. I wish I had the opportunity to make this right. Connect with me directly if you would like to give us a second chance. Have a great day.
Best course in the Barrie area
Interactions with the starter were excellent, very helpful for my first time playing there. I was a bit early for my tee time and was given the option to go out by myself which I took advantage of. That lasted a few holes as I caught the twosome in front of me and joined up with them. The issue was several groups ahead however the marshals sorted that out in a reasonable amount of time. We were given the option to play the front 9 again but elected to continue to the back.
Conditions were great for the weather. I was very impressed by how few divots were in the fairway. Greens were just top dressed and wet from the rain but still rolled fairly quick and true.
The layout is a bit odd on one or two holes. There's a par 5 where you will be laying up your tee shot as the hole makes a hard 90* turn at about 200 yards. A very interesting and at times challenging course.
Perhaps my favorite part of the day was the GPS in the carts. No guessing yardages or messing around with apps / range finders.
Overall I would highly recommend this course
Great Experience
Great afternoon on a chilly fall day! Greens are challenging with a fair bit of undulation, and deceptively quick! Overall though a great first experience at Tangle Creek! Won’t be my last!
Wait and Bake
We normally enjoy TC but for two issues.
The bizarre practice range set-up.
You have to take a separate range cart - not the playing cart - to get to the range and even then you have to haul your clubs over hilly ground PAST an always empty "reserved for lessons" area to a very small practice tee.
Then haul your sticks back to the range cart - drive back up the hill and switch to the game cart.
BIZARRE!
So it's a hot and busy Sunday.
We tee off behind two foursomes - hubbies and wives.
Immediately we start waiting on every hole as they duff their way around the course at that oh-so-slow "just like the pros on TV!" speed.
And a personal favourite - park the cart and walk 50 yards to the ball on the other side of the fairway.
No marshall in sight - naturally.
Cart GPS constantly reminding us we're behind schedule -Ya Think!
Finally they send out one of the cart boys on the 15th hole - "we've asked them to speed up"
There's NO ONE in front of the two groups
Oh gee thanks.
"Sorry guys but it's busy" doesn't cut it.
We're high handicappers ourselves but when it''s busy we we know that you skip the do-overs and re-loads.
Ball went in the weeds? too bad- drop one and keep going.
Ready golf.
With GPS the management knew exactly where everyone was - no excuse for allowing slow play to continue.
TC isn't the only course that uses the "It's slow because it's busy" line - and it's a load of crap.
That's precisely when you need to be on top of it.
After all that we just wanted to finish and get out of there - we didn't even feel like golfing anymore.
Honestly, TC is giving the impression - and they aren't the only ones - that they're running a wedding and events business with a golf course as a sideline.
Croozer,
On behalf of the club, I would like to apologizes for the experience you had.
We always strive to create the best golfing experience possible and we failed to do so in your situation.
We hope you give us another opportunity in the future to experience the real Tangle Creek.
Contact our management team anytime to book your next tee time.
Thank you for your comments.
Have a great day!
Excellent conditions
Great layout, can be challenging if not a long hitter. Definitely will return.
Not Worth It.
Insanely over designed everywhere including greens with massive 2-3 foot mounds, blind shots everywhere, and a very poor selection of par 5s. 18 might be the worst finishing hole I’ve played. Course was in great shape at least and there are some good holes, but that doesn’t make up for all the issues. No Marshall present the entire round, group behind us quit after 6 holes due to slow play.
Tough and challenging
Course in great shape. Only played 9 holes as we got rained out. Three of us have played here before and always are impressed with the condition the course is in. There other 3 players enjoyed it and wished they could have played the full round as they were all from out of town.
I want to apologizes for the experience at the club. We strive to exceed everyone expectations and failed to do so in your visit. We have maintenance practices in place to ensure conditions are consistent throughout the season. Tees decks are aerated yearly to maintain the conditions. We do have a recommended tee program in place to help with the play ability for all players. Thanks for your comments and feedback. I wish I had an opportunity to address it when you were at the club. Contact me directly if you would like to experience the club again in the future.
