Reviews
Great Day
Except for getting bumped from our original tee time, everything was great! And the rain held off...
Wayne
Hunter pt
Still a great course but I did not like the changes to holes 3-5... rest of the course was in great shape, greater value too
A Gem
If you like to play i Link style course, this will not disappoint you. The greens are quick and undulating. An excellent course for the money.
good but confusing
a few holes were awkward in set up, before the hwy expansion was much better - many other great courses in Niagara - most likely won't go back for a long time
Disappointed
I understand that this course had to change their layout due to a hiway expansion. This is such a shame as there are some great holes, particularly on the back 9. There are 2-3 holes in the front 9 that spoil the course and really leave a very average impression.
Old days...good times I remember...
First round on the "newly renovated" front nine.
The old #3 was a beautiful risk/reward par 5 that now has been butchered into an average par 4 and a meek par 3.
The new #5?...a joke, right???
Come Back at a Later Date ?!?
As a NIAGARA resident, I play as many different courses as possible (see all my reviews). I've played here before, and prior to the construction due to the Hwy 406 Expansion, this course was easily Top 5 in the Region. Sadly, that is not the case any more. The new hole layouts feel forced, and unnatural, almost like an after thought. Whomever originally designed the course did a great job, whomever was responsible for the redesign appears to have been rushed, or on a tight budget, because it just doesn't feel like the rest of the course. If you only played the back 9, you'd really feel the true ambiance of this course, but sadly, anything close to the Hwy will ruin your round.
Pros:
the course design (minus the HWY Holes) is links style. plenty of rolling hills, fescue, etc...
there are still 12+ untouched holes from the original design
the multi-tiered greens make golfing here a challenge.
the views. on certain tee boxes you can see for miles (or km's)
Cons:
as I have already said - the redesign is horrible.
no real range. i think it's maybe 200yd long?
a few blind holes on the front enables you to easily anger the players in front of you. then you get to stand in the middle of the FW and be a target for the group behind you.
HORDES of Canadian Geese. Buy a dog for god sakes!! Keep these dirty birds off the property, and their "droppings" too.
some fairway bunkers that I found myself in were not filled with more than an 1/8" of sand. it felt like hitting off of khaki coloured pavement.
their yardage books have also been redesigned, and what used to be 1 hole / page is now 4 holes / page. another poor executive decision.
bottom line - would I come back ???
not this season. maybe not next season. certainly not until the course is no longer under repair.
Sorry, I forgot a very important word in my previous comment.
...The redesign has * * * NOT * * * been an improvement to your course. ...
this is certainly not SPAM. The redesign has been an improvement to your course. The back 9 is still great. It's a shame that the 406 expansion has affected your course in this manner.
I share your pain, bro.
Beware. Could this comment by Ernest1975 be spam?
I've noticed positive comment on other course in Niagara that may not warrant the comment. All areas in play are in good condition. Goose problem was dealt with and not bad. Other posters have good comments for HPGC.
Great Day Out
First time playing this course and I would absolutely go back. The course was in good shape (a bit of water in some bunkers though). Staff was very friendly and the price was right!
Nice Day at Hunters Point
Frist time playing the course and was pleasantly surprised. Live in Burlington, easy drive, especailly for the price! Course was in good shape and the round took about 4.5 hours which isn't bad. Very nice staff and waitresses/beer cart workers are very nice. Couple holes very challenging with wind, otherwise a prety stragithforward course.
Best Course in Niagara
First time playing Hunters Pointe and will be back! I've played Pennisula Lakes, Battlefield and Bridgewater this year, this was my favorite. Loved the links layout and got 36 holes in with replay scpecial they are running. Best greens ive seen in along time. A bit dry out there, but no rain so what can you do.
Guess you've never heard of Grand Niagara. It's in the class above HPGC.
This review is HIGHLY exaggerated. As a Niagara resident, not a visitor from Burlington, I play a wide variety of the local courses, and Hunter's Pointe (after the reno), is no longer on the top 5 list.
You want the best, start at Grand Niagara. Then play some of the other great courses in Niagara (Legends, Penn. Lakes, etc...)
Use a cart
Holes are spread apart and a cart is very much recommended Good corse. Would play here again
Ruined
The redo on this golf course has made it a joke.
The holes are disjointed and follow no reasonable pattern. You cannot see the group in front of you. Took the best hole on the course, a short par 3 and converted it to a par 5???
The greens were nowhere near where they are normally. Do not waste your time or money there are plenty of other options in Niagara.
the course re-design has not done this course any favours. it was MUCH better before the Hwy 406 expansion forced some tee's and greens to be moved around.
Best Course in Niagara
I've golfed everywhere in Niagara and this is my favourite place. Links style open fairways + crazy fast green give for a forgiving + very challenging round golf.
Hunter's Pointe was once a regular on the "Top 5 Courses of Niagara", but since the reno, that's no longer the case.
Lost in Transition
There have been several changes to the layout on the front nine because of the highway. Completely different layout on the front and the yardages are waaaaay off. I don't hit wedges 160!
I don't like this layout. Course has been messed up because of the new highway. Biiiiiiiiiig mistake.
Won't be going back anytime soon.
Too bad..................................................
Father's Day Treat
Nice course with a challenging layout. A decent amount of water, traps and narrow landing spots. Forced to play technical golf on some holes instead of just swinging hard. Only real drawback is complete lack of shad - links style course.
DISAPPOINTED
this first 6 holes where still under construction, blind holes did'nt help, the cart path are gravel and extremely dusty, no marshall on the course, the starter warned us of the fesque being infested with TICKS and to stay out, why would the course allow this ????
the starter assure use they were DOG TICKS not DEER TICKS and that would make everything alright, how does he know the difference, golf or botany ?
Mike,
Tics are everywhere, even on residential lawns. Starter should not have provided this comment.
The first 6 holes are not under construction. Only 3, 4, and 5. They are 95% complete and the greens, tees, and fairways are in very good condition. We're sorry you didn't enjoy your round and felt we deserved such a poor rating.
Trepidation and persistence
My wife and I were lucky enough to be paired with 2regulars who made the whole experience great. We were off about 10 minutes late but. Played in under 4 hours. The course was a challenge for us but the grooming made it a pleasure. The greens are very fast and the undulating landscape makes for an enjoyable game. Afterward you must check out the bar for some excellent eats.
Slow round, so very slow, painfully slow
I hadn't been back to Hunter's Pointe in many years. When I finally went to see how the renovations had gone, I was impressed by the changes needed to avoid the highway. Conditions were good - nothing to complain about in terms of the layout or the conditioning.
The round was slow - horribly slow. The front nine took us three hours to complete. At some point the marshal mentioned that there was a group a few ahead of us dragging things down and that he was keeping an eye on them. As is the case with most courses, that was the extent of his action. They watched while we trudged through a painfully slow round and did nothing to fix it. An 830am tee time should not result in a round of 5:30. No apology from any staff came and the marshal stopped making eye contact with us for the last eight holes. Sure it's cheap - best golf rates anywhere when measured on an hourly rate. Save your time - pay an extra $15-20 and go to Legends on Niagara or anywhere else.
Brutal pace
Waiting on every single hole. No Marshall to maintain pace of play. 4 twosomes on one tee box. Will not go back
Paid for 18, left after 9 because of slow play.
This course used to be a personal favourite of mine. It offers a links style course that can be pretty challenging if you can't keep it in the fairways and some long par 3s. They changed a few holes on the front 9 of the course because of a new highway which made using a GPS useless and the holes are very oddly laid out and confusing.
This would have been easy to overlook had the course not been playing SO SLOW!! We tee'd off and saw no one on the hole in front so it looked promising. After hole number one we got to the par 3, second and were stuck behind a group waiting on the tee and another playing the hole already. By the time we tee'd off there were 2 groups behind us as well. We waited approximately 15 minutes EVERY single hole.
We tee'd off late (3:30PM) which should still have given us plenty of time to finish 18 holes since sunset is around 830PM. By the end of just 9 frustrating holes it was already 6:30PM. That's 3 hours for 9 holes!! There is no way at that pace we could have finished so we walked off the course and asked for a raincheck. (It turns out the 2 groups behind us ended up doing the same thing.)
The one saving grace is the staff were very polite and accommodating in providing a raincheck and even apologised for the delay on the course. I just wish they policed the course a little more to keep slow moving groups moving along to avoid this in the future.
This was the first time in my 7 years of golfing I have felt the need to walk off a course halfway through a round due to slow play. I'll be going back to finish my back 9 raincheck, but may not golf here again unless I'm the first off in the morning so I'm not waiting.
GT86golf,
Please accept our apologies for slow play. We're working to rectify this problem.
You need to delete Hunters Pointe on your GPS and reload it to activate course changes. GPS providers are very slow to respond to changes as we have been trying since December last year to move them along.
Please contact shawn@hpgolf.ca if you read this comment. Thank you.

Hunters Pointe did the best that it could under the circumstances to satisfy the MTO with renovations. Budget was limited as well as land available. One hole didn't turn out right - #5. The 50+ employees who rely on Hunters Pointe for their livelihood would appreciate you moving on along with your malicious comments. People like you hurt businesses without regard for ownership or employees. You are the reason most internet sites have taken down their comments section of their website. Hope you're proud of yourself.
Hey "HuntersPointeStaff", yet another RAVE review of your "re-design".
As you can see, I am part of the MAJORITY, (not minority), who believe that your redesign has ruined your front nine.
Customer point of view is huge to the success of a businesses success or failure, so I take my responsibility serious when it comes to offering an HONEST review. I am not a Spam-Bot
