DO NOT PLAY HERE!

They don't say anything at the pro shop and flipped the nines so if you play you are more than halfway done your round and won't go in on the third hole and ask for your money back. Go play an executive course until they remodel. Total rip off!

New routing

Not sure why they shortened the course but it was still in great shape. Had 3 people tell me to play hole 18 after we play 17 which was weird cause I normally don't have a problem doing that.

During the 2015 golf season, Hunters Pointe shortened holes #3 and #4 and installed temporary teeing areas for golfers to utilize. These changes were part of a continuing effort to keep motorists who travel on the newly expanded HWY 406 safe from errant golf balls. This past fall, we were able to complete renovations on these holes and restore the course to a par 72, championship caliber layout. We hope to have you out in 2016 to play the new layout.

Hiding closed holes

Made me very unhappy when I hit back nine and they did not tell us about holes being closed before teeing off. They have switch the 9s so you don't hit closed to the back nine so it's too late to quit. Great course but I'm happy that they did not tell us.

Thanks for the comment. The 9's were switched to improve the flow and pace of play. This past fall, the shortened holes were renovated and restored to a permanent Graham Cooke design. Hopefully we will see you out this coming season as we are thrilled with the new concept and design.

2 shortened holes

Although the course is in excellent condition overall, we were disappointed when we got to the third hole, a par 5, to find that we were advanced to the 150 mark and had to play it as a par 3. This happened again on the next hole, a par 4 which was reduced from 413 yds. (white tees) to 288 yds. Apparently this is due to the widening of the 406 which runs along the eastern property line and any tee shots going OB would be on MTO property and a really errant tee shot could get too close to the highway. I appreciate the logic and the concern for the safety of those using the 406, however, I don't appreciate being kept in the dark about these conditions when booking the tee time on Golf Now and not being apprised of the conditions at the pro shop or by the starter. I think that we paid an above average rate for an on-line booking to play a course that is currently sub-par.

Thanks for the comment. The two holes you reference were shortened in the spirit of public safety and motorists travelling on the adjacent highway. These temporary holes have since been renovated and restored to a permanent layout. We hope to see you in 2016.

Great course. Long drive and big greens very challenging for all level golfers. Some tees are short because of challenges due to hwy 406. Unfortunately this greatly shortened 2 holes on the first 9.

Great Course, not in great shape

This course is one of my favourite in the region. Although it's not by any stretch a links course, they do a nice job of giving the course a British-conditions feel.

Around 14 of the holes are nicely designed, but two of the best holes on the course a par 4 and par 5 on the front 9 have been neutered into a (very) short par 4 and a par 3, respectively. Nowhere on GolfNow was I made aware of this.

It seems the adjustment is due to a highway that was put in beside those holes over the last year or so and an attempt to keep errant balls from hitting any cars. Regardless, whether these changes are permanent or temporary, golfers should be warned as it greatly affected my appreciation for the course.

Also, the course itself was not in as good a shape as it usually is. Greens were beat up, fairways pock-marked with di

Closed holes

Nice course, will play it again after they fix their highway proximity issues. They have turned a par 5 into a 150 yd par 3 and a long par 4 into a very short (274 yds) par 4.
If I had been aware of these changes I probably wouldn't have booked there.

Beware

A great local course, with awesome greens, reasonably price has been largely ruined by the redesign of highway adjacent to course. Two holes on front 9 ( although we started on back 9, not sure if this is a permanent thing, maybe they switched the 9's) are now unplayable as they were as par 5 and 4. They had to take the prettiest most challenging par 5 and make it an improvised 140 yd par 3. They will need to cut prices before I go back. Too bad, loved the track.

PAR 3s

The course took 2 PAR 4s out and put the Tees partway down the course to make them PAR 3s.

They said something about the course being changed and the roadway, but that was for next year. I don't know why they would do that this early for next year.

That gave your 3 PAR 3s in a row. Not impressed.

this course has excellent greens

Hunters Pointe is a very good course that I love to play but since the destruction of the 2 holes next to the highway it is now spoiled, too bad the city has hurt this golf course.

FYI City of Welland has been very supportive. It's MTO forcing changes due to errant golf balls entering their property. The shortening of holes are temporary. Changes are coming for the 2016 season. Thanks for your comment.

Nice course with future challenges

Hunters Pointe is a lovely and well maintained course. Unfortunately, a new highway is being constructed parallel to holes one through three. Transportation officials are concerned that driver/tee shots may end up landing on the highway and causing an accident. Hence, the great par 5 second hole has temporarily been made into two rather sad par threes and if I recall correctly, the tee box on three had been moved way up. The big question is, "What will be the permanent fix for these holes?" A screen may not be the answer.

Greta local course

Having played this course two times I can honestly say I will return again. I thoroughly enjoyed myself both times. At my age I don't need a course that is beyond my capabilities. I found restaurant and pro shop staff to be very friendly. Outside staff giving us our carts should be more friendly and helpful. My friends that I played with felt the same as I.

On windy days it can be tough, but I've played courses in CA that made your windy days feel like a gentle breeze.

Greens were in good shape as were the fairways. I wish carts had sand and seed on them as well as coolers with ice. Nice to have cold water when needed as well as cold soft drinks.

I look forward to returning,

Tom Thornton

Welland gem

I've played Hunter's Pointe before but it's been over 10 years. It is in great shape from tee to green. The staff and facilities are great. It is a good test of your abilities with fair obstacles and carries. The only thing I didn't like was something imposed by our wonderful government of Ontario. The par 5 3rd hole has been split up into two par 3's as forced by the MTO given the road running parallel to the hole. While it does give you 19 holes to play, that was a great hole. Boooooo MTO! I would recommend to everyone, especially at $27.99 on GolfNow.

It's carnival time

Because of Highway 406, the ownership of the course had to make some changes in order to protect drivers on the 406. Hole #3 is no longer a risk/reward par 5. It has been divided into two par 3 with the first being a "fun" par 3 that does not count. The second par 3 is now a 165-180 yard par three with the tee being below the hill. What a shame as this was one of my favourite holes. Apparently, too many golf balls were found on the Highway right of way as the second shot left little room for an errant shot. # 4 hole has been converted to a 265 yard par 4 with the tee Baxter in the middle of the fairway near the forward tees ( red tees). Today, with a north wind, I almost drove the green.

These changes have altered what was once a formidable front 9. These changes were mandated by MTO. Ownership now has a big decision to make as the changes are not, in my view, sustainable for the long term. I have been a member for a very long time. If there is no plan in place by the fall and communicated to the members, I will go elsewhere.

I know many members feel the same way. It is really a shame!

Good value for a really nice course

Very nice course. More playable than 10 years ago. Multi layer undulating greens mean that you aren't finished once you reach the green. Use all your clubs. Well kept and was in great condition. Nice staff and good food in clubhouse. Overall a very good golf and dine experience at a great golfnow price.
