Lakeside Golf Club
About
Named after the bordering lake that the course overlooks, Lakeside Golf Club takes full advantage of the natural landscape of rolling hills and live oaks. Water comes into play on nearly every hole on the course. Streams and dry creek beds dot the course, creating challenges on several holes. The golf course also features undulating greens and narrow landing areas. Designed to provide a formidable test for any golfer, Lakeside Golf Club demands accuracy in addition to careful strategy. One of the most notable difficult holes on the golf course is the par-5 12th, which requires an approach shot over water to a well bunkered green.

Horrendous!
We played on Sat, Aug 29, 2015 and the condition of the course was horrible! The grass on the tee boxes was so dry and brown that I had to hammer my tee into the ground with a piece of concrete that was broken off from the golf cart path. The sand bunkers were overgrown with weeds, in fact the entire golf course was overgrown with weeds. It looked as if it had not been mowed in months!
There is obviously an irrigation issue because some sections of the course are soaking wet and other sections are bone dry with cracks in the ground. The cart paths are torn up due to erosion and poor upkeep.
The owner of this course should be ashamed of himself. He obviously does not play golf nor care about anyone that loves the game in close proximity to this course!
I will not return to this course until a new owner purchases it and gives it the well deserved TLC that it so desperately needs. It could be a great course and was a nice place to golf years ago.
I am not one to complain or write bad reviews, but this is an exception since this course is such a disgrace. They really should close the course and stop taking money from people, it's that bad!
I am writing this to let other golfers know the true condition of this course. I love the game and love a good golfing experience. Hopefully, the owner will see this and put some money into his investment! I cannot imagine how the property owners along this golf course feel, they must be so disgusted!
Terrible service!
My husband and I belong to a course in San Antonio and have played this one several times over the years. While we understand the drought situation, that is not an excuse for the poor maintenance. Weeds of all heights! Just think of playing on a highway berm. My husband bought a few beers and water and they supplied the ice chest, although the beer was in bottles which was weird. After the first 9 holes we stopped in for a quick break and I went to purchase a few more beers. I had to call for the bartender to come out of the back room for service. She was arguing with the proshop guy (unprofessional). She refused to sell me the beer and said we could only have them inside. I reminded her that she already sold us a few AND PUT THEM IN AN ICECHEST for my husband to take on the course. I didnt want to run my day off with my husband so I bought a few sodas and went back out. We finished our play and were just happy to be outside even though the course was in terrible shape and the staff was rude. When we got back to the bar it looked like the bartender and proshop guy made up because we had to call for her to come out of the back room. But that was short lived because while she took our order and went upstairs to get something and he followed happily but then we heard some yelling. The cook had to serve our food and said that is normal and rolled her eyes. The burgers were good. My husband wanted to look at some of the clubs for sale and the proshop guy said it was closed. He was very rude. This course could be so nice even during a drought if someone would just take some pride in their job. It is obvious the management is trying very hard to bankrupt this place.
We are sad to hear that you were unsatisfied with the condition of the course. We are working hard to improve Lakeside Golf Club!
You get what you pay for
The course was a nice layout, challenging at times, but the fairways (or lack there of) were in poor condition and the greens varied from flooded to super fast and dry
Devin,
Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate you taking time to leave this review!
Dry & uncut fairways but interesting layout
Lakeside is a great value course in San Antonio. The layout is very unique and fun to play with multiple par 4 holes that are reachable with a driver and offer good risk-reward decision making opportunties. Staff was very nice as usual. The fairways were rough compared to my last visit. They were very dry and uncut so some shots in the midddle of the fairway were like the rough. More dirt spots were showing through on the fairways too. Greens were good and rolled well.
We are working hard to improve the conditions of our course! It is hard with this Texas heat! Please come back and see us soon!
bad experience
Greens were spotted with fescue and not even puttable. Cart paths are in terrible shape. Standing water in spots and hard as pavement in fairways. I wouldn't play this course again even for a cheaper price.

" Short and Tough"
Although this a relatively short course it plays tough. Starts with the majority of your tee shot down tight, narrow tree line fairways. Be straight or be lost. Not to fret, you'll find someone else's lost ball. You'll have to play a lot of different types approach shots. Now comes the greens. Most are hard and fast, but there are a couple that were really slow. Which made it tough to get the speed right. A lot of the greens sloped back to front which made it difficult to keep the ball on the green. Plus throw in one turtle back green, and that one could really run up your score.
If your in the area and looking for a course to play a round, this would could fit the bill. Better if you can get a good price. But not worth making a special trip. Another thing about this course is that you'll use every club in your bag.
Awful Golf Course if it was free
You might as well play golf in a open grass field. There aren't any fairways, just normal grass, if you can find a green they're over grown with crab grass. Artificial putt putt courses are better.
Great price(10.00) but greens were the worst!
The greens were infested with "crab grass". The bunkers were unkept.
The fairway were in need of watering
I enjoyed it very much I was happy to see family playing together
Greens in rough condition
Greens in rough condition and need mowing. Fareways need mowing
Lakeside Golf Club
The course is lay out was quite good...Greens are dead and are very small....Entire course is in need of mowing and trimming.
bad course conditions
even though there had been heavy rain I believe the course could have been in better condition. seemed like there was no attempt to mow the course even though it had not rained in about 10 days. will not go back to this course to play a round of golf.
Terrible Conditions even with all the rain.
Don't waster your money unless your a beginner just wanted to get out, fairways and greens are terrible. Fairways weren't even mowed. Some tee boxes were ok but don't let that fool you. This place is beautiful but needs a lot of work.
Wet Course and Tall Grass
The course had a lot of springs that ran through the course coming from the neighborhoods. lots of recent rains meant that casual water was everywhere. Problems were springs over cart paths, running through fairways, and thick tall weeds were all throughout the fairways. greens were pretty good and held well, but until mowers get on the course, it's best to wait a month to head out there. And that is excluding the fact that more rain is coming.
Great value
Interesting course...some holes remarkably tight and a few wide open...long par 3s...great value through Golf Now
Thankfully it was cheap
That's the only good thing about it. I wouldn't pay a penny more to play at this place again. Whoever runs the front desk needs a loooong vacation. Way too up tight and not friendly by any stretch of the imagination. He came out to play with a group of people and it took them almost 30 minutes to finish one hole. Thankfully they only played two and got off the course. This was after they said to wait until the rest of their group showed up to play the hole, which they never did. I would not recommend this place, and I wouldn't play here again if they payed me. Not to mention the greens were in bad condition. I'd say horrible but the sand traps ON most of the greens were along the outside edge. Unless you live on or next to the course I wouldn't go. You've been warned.
Great Value, Fun Course
We've played this course around 6 times over the last year and continue to come back. It's a great value and a challenging but not difficult course. We never feel rushed or slowed. The greens this time were in really great shape.
We'll be back!
Excellent for the fees
There were a number of bare spots throughout the course and the greens were dry but rolled true. Overall it was playable and for the price you can't complain. I was playing as a single and held up by a twosome and 2 foursomes in front of me but all 3 groups asked me if I wanted to play thru. So excellent sportsmanship and etiquette.
Great course for the money.
Great little course with some good view of Canyon Lake. I will play there again.
Good value
The course is a very tree-lined course, especially the back nine.
We deeply apologize you're dissatisfied with the conditions of the course. We are working to improve the conditions to make it a more enjoyable round. I can assure you, that the owner of this course does play golf and certainly cares about every person that plays at his course. If there is anything we can do to make this up to you, please let us know.
