About
Alsatian GC is an 18-hole with water in play. Front side fairly open and flat, almost links type play. Hole 2 surrounded by waterways and bunkers. Back side is hilly and has lots of trees. Super finishing hole with a tree in center of uphill fairway.
Throughout the course you will find challenging and beautiful fairways lined with trees and Spanish Dagger. The course also offers distance wedge game range, practice bunkers, three-level putting green, and a pre-round putting green.
Lodging: The Alsatian Inn is located approximately two miles from the club. A very nice facility, it has ninety rooms, a swimming pool, and a really good restaurant. Children under the age of fourteen stay free.
Distance: About 30 minutes from downtown on Highway
90 West to Castroville. But worth the trip.... Take Highway 90 West through Castroville; turn right at the blinking light just past the Alsatian Inn; veer left on CR 4516. Course is 2.5 miles down on the right.

Heads up would have been nice
First off this is a great course! Layout is great, pace of play is generally good, price is fair, But they got me again with resoding the greens, sand was 1/4” deep on the greens. If I had known ahead of time I would have moved to another day instead of driving 40 miles one way. A simple heads up would have been nice.

I call this my home course.
I have been playing this course for many years. Lately in the past couple years I have seen this place improve in quality to the point of being impressed. Keep up the good work crew and I will see you soon.

All good except pace of play.
Course in good condition considering winter grass in fairways. Greens were good and rather quick. Only issue is pace of play. There were 2 groups of five in front of us both playing for money. We waited on every tee and every approach shot. Really takes the enjoyment out of a round when you wait around on every shot.
We have a money game on Thursday that tees off at 1pm They go 1 forward and this was explained when you checked-in. I am sorry if they held you up. The wind caused slow play on March 24th as well. Thank you for the nice remarks. We appreciate your business.

Hill Country Golf at Great Value
We love this course! It’s not a PGA course, so don’t hate on it. Cheap prices and a challenging course that presents the regular golfer some fun.
It’s nestled in the hill country and has an awesome ion site restaurant - Julliana’s. Great place to play!

Follow the Crowd
This course is always a lot of fun to play, it is challenging with some holes that grant some good rewards.
This last time the only issue I had was that the course allowed two groups of six each and one group of five all of which were directly ahead of us. Even if one group would have allowed us to play through, we would have been stuck behind another. There was no course marshal to ensure that they moved along making necessary to wait at each hole.
First off thank you for the 4 stars. I am glad you like the course. I am sorry about the pace. On Thursdays we have a money game that goes 1 forward to usually 9 or 10 and most are fivesomes. If you play a twosme chances are you might run into them. However your tee time was one hour after they started. If you went off early then you would definitely run into them. We did have a marshall on the course. He was probably on the back moving the first groups along. If you have a problem like this, please call the pro shop and we can send someone to you immediately. We look forward to your return visit.
Great course!
I recently returned to playing golf (~ 6 months). Until yesterday, I have only played the Alamo City Golf Trail courses. With the exception of the recently renovated, reopened Olmos course, the others ar suffering from weed infested greens and hard pan fairways.
Not so with Alsatian! Although the grass is dormant, the fairways are in very good shape. The greens roll true and will test your putting skills.
Another +++ is the restaurant collocated with the course. Wonderful, friendly staff, delicious good, and unbelievable prices.
Best of all, the course is significantly closer to my house.
It’s now my home course.

Recommended
Played here many time but not lately. Usually in great shape especially the greens. This time it wasn’t so good. Most greens were not true- rough and bumpy with dead patches. Many areas especially around the greens and approaches were soggy, as if over watered, even tho we’re in a drought. Disappointing conditions, especially since the prices have increased $5-7 from last year. I’d check before going back.
Thank you for the 4-star review. We appreciate your honest and insightful comments. The course is wet. We have not had much sunshine and we still need to water the greens. By watering the greens, the runoff does make the areas around the greens very wet. It's a double edge sword. Since we have bent grass greens in the winter months and they are not completely dormant, they need water. The greens are a bit rough in places but we have had a lot of freezing weather. This is not a good time of year for courses. The rates have gone up $4.00, plus tax. That is correct. As you know, all things have increased and we have to stay ahead of the increasing prices or we cannot exist.
