Neighbor to the Laurentian Mountains, the Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello Golf Club tumbles across a dramatic, rolling landscape. The course tightly winds through towering forests, which not only provides some challenging holes but also ensures a secluded, closed-in feel. Originally designed by Stanley Thompson in 1929, it has become one of the most popular golf courses in Quebec. In 1998, the scenic course was designated as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The layout is considered one of the toughest in the province. The elevation changes throughout the course offer scenic mountain views but they also guarantee that a flat lie will be hard to find. There are a few water hazards on the golf course but the challenge comes mostly from the well guarded greens. In addition to the course, there is also a driving range and chipping and putting greens.

Mickey mouse holes

Too many holes where the greens are way higher or way lower than the tee box.
Also a lot of blind tee shots.

Good value

Great scenery combined with good value make this a course to play. Conditions are good even though we played just after the tornado event which destroyed some bunkers.
Greens are very tricky and there can be some brutal pin placements but the greens were true and medium speed.
Only complaint was the men's washroom in the clubhouse was disgustingly filthy and no one cleaned it for the 2 days we were there. They need a process.

Beautiful course

The course was beautiful, the service was excellent but unfortunately the group behind wasn't respectful of slow play and on a couple of holes came close to hitting us. No marshall in sight to express concerns. the group behind us turned out to be members (TPT) and they said they were tired of waiting and said we were the delay unfortunately this was not the case at all we had to wait on every shot also.

Marshall apologized on their behalf which was not right. Maybe next time just be more visible and talk to golfers and ask them how its going.

Awesome layout and beautiful views

Montebello was a last minute decision. I am so happy I did it.
The course is quite unique and the views are worth it. There is a lot of elevation at Montebello and one of the par 3 is actually way higher than the tee box and if you run short , well ....bye bye ball since it is guarded by a rock wall. At this time of the year , I was surprise to see the quality of the course . I cannot imagine how beautiful it must be in the middle of summer. I really recommend this course , it is fun , beautiful and it will challenge you for sure.

Nice Views

The course is beautiful. Overall well maintained and have some spectacular views. Greens were fast and challanging, especially 9th hole if you don,t have the first ball dropped on the green and close to the hole, it would be hard to make a par.

Nice scenery.

Poor green conditions. Some greens were OK but the pin was placed in areas that were damaged.
Some sand traps obviously haven't been groomed in a long time. The sand in one traps was hard like stone.
The club was nice but directions to the lady's washroom were very ambiguous.

Beautiful setting, not what I expected from a Fairmont Course

The golf course is located in a beautiful setting, typical mountain course with notable elevation changes, very few level playing areas, lots of uneven lies and playing with the ball above and or below your feet throughout the round. Course maintenance is not what I would have expected for a Fairmont hotel course, several greens were in rough shape, T boxes also require attention, reception at the pro shop was adequate but slow, as well as the impression left when you check in to a resort style course, and there is no beverage cart on course during the round? and the snack bar, is closing early?, so no opportunity to get anything of substance at the turn? due to the course almost feeling like it was closed?? All in all for the price we paid I am satisfied, would never pay for a full prime time t- off due to my experience.

Nice elevated views.

Pleasant round of golf. Greens were bumpy and uneven speed and fairways were somewhat long.

What a shame - it used to be a real pleasure!

1) We seemed to be penalised for being a GolfNow client. We arrived early and had lunch overlooking the 1st tee and saw that nobody teed off for at least 45 minutes. We asked the starter to tee off early and were refused. They made us wait for half an hour and then jammed 3 foursomes back to back to back - why?
2) There were no marshals anywhere; we had to frequently wait on the group in front of us.
3) Winter kill on many greens had not recovered yet. Very rough and bumpy! Reminded me of the ‘Plinko’ game.
4) Several poor hole placements which were placed in the most damaged sections of greens.

In my opinion it is extremely overpriced for the poor conditions of the greens; the couple playing with us was given $5 off their full-price green fee as compensation for the poor green conditions. Fairmont seems to have short term thinking and focusing on their cash flow.
Instead, they should find a better balance and provide their customers with an excellent experience - for repeat business and word of mouth advertising!

Slow play and poor greens

Very slow groups with people giving on the course lessons and no intervention from course employees. The course is a fun course to play and the scenery is a highlight but the condition of the greens was not good.

A tougher challenge than the scorecard implies

Like everybody else, I feel victim to the tricks of the Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello Golf Club.
I looked at the 6,300 yards on the scorecard and thought I would break 80, no problem. This historic par-70 design by the legendary Stanley Thompson has a way of humbling first-timers.
There are so few flat lies. Feeling claustrophobic hurts players trying to hit narrow fairways.
Creeks and streams regularly show up unannounced, except for the intimidating in-your-face water hazard that guards the 14th green.
The beautiful clubhouse mirrors the famed Fairmont, the largest log cabin hotel in the world.

This course is not what it used to be.

This golf course has a great potential with better management.
Starting with to keep a tee time assigned, a reasonable pace of game and paying more attention to the greens( bad shape ) then landscape ( beautiful ).

Fabulous scenery

Unfortunately the greens suffered damage, apparently over the winter and they are not very good. The course is challenging for all levels of golfers and of course the scenery is spectacular. We have been many times over the past 13 years.. It is always a fantastic experience.

The greens need attention

A great Stanley Thompson design with some magnificent views and holes. The front nine is strong but the last 3 holes of the back are weak and the course ends on a low.
The greens need some work as there's still quite a bit of winter kill and green speed is not consistent.
This is still a "must play" course but it would be great to bring it back to pristine conditioning.

Mixed experience at course

Attention to details required at this course. When I arrived, no one at bag drop, pro shop staff fast and friendly, was allowed to start early as a single, played 5 holes at a good pace, caught up with a slow threesome on hole 6, and the rest was downhill from there. Where was the course Marshall ? Several of the greens were dry, burnt, flat sections of mud. There's is a reason this course was cheap. Seems like the course is just a side attraction for the resort. On the upside the scenery on 4th and 9th hole hole were amazing.
