Nice links course
Fun to play, nice greens, nice links feel!
Only downsize and its a big one...one working restroom on the course, including clubhouse. Porta-potty do not count. Restrooms are being renovated so hopefully soon...
Disappointing Experience at The Golf Club at Texas A&M – Not Worth the $65
This was hands down the worst golf experience I’ve ever had, and I play often. It started with the staff telling me I had to move into someone else’s cart or take a refund—super awkward and not a great start. When that group finally arrived, they had a rider, which apparently isn’t even allowed on weekends, but it was fine for them? Made no sense.
The round itself was painfully slow despite the course being mostly open ahead. We were stuck behind two sluggish groups and there wasn't a marshal anywhere to keep things moving. I asked the pro shop about it and they casually said there wasn’t one scheduled for the day. Seriously?
At the turn, I grabbed a hot dog and chips, only to find the hot dog was ice cold, straight from the fridge, not even close to edible. Bathrooms? None. They're remodeling, but the only option was a porta potty placed right next to where they spray carts, meaning you had to trek through muddy, grimy puddles just to get to it.
And the course itself? Terrible shape. Tee boxes looked like they hadn’t been maintained in weeks—teed-up leftovers everywhere. Fairways and greens were patchy with dead spots all over. For $65, it felt like a complete ripoff. Definitely won’t be back.
Green returns
The grass is filling in nicely, lush and green. Greens are fast yet true. With the recent rains the bunkers can be a handful, so avoid them. Staff are friendly and professional. Enjoy a round before the summer heat sets in. Just saying
Enjoyable round
I was in town for an industry conference that starts on Monday, 3/30/25, and had some time to kill. I was grouped with a few A&M alum that happen to also have their degrees in Industrial Engineering. They were great group with varying skill levels, so we had a good time. I was disappointed in how damaged the greens were because apparently, few people that play the course repair their ball marks. The temperature was pleasant, but the wind was ridiculous at times. Other than the condition of the greens and the fact that the clubhouse does not accept cash, I would give the course a great rating. The cost was average for 18 holes plus cart. One thing that made it more enjoyable for me, was that it was my 62nd birthday and I was able to play golf.
What happened here?
In shock of what has happened here the last several years regarding the course conditions. I feel bad for the community in this small town. Grass overgrown all over, divots, puddles, etc.
Old Ag ‘82
Golf carts ran at two different speeds. Faster on paths and slow off paths. Cart was two restricted for access in rough. Greens were ok but Tboxes were beat up and fairways had many bare spots. I have played this course many times but this is the worst condition I’ve seen.
Spring conditions
The grass is greening up. The greens are fast yet true. The bunkers are death traps and wet. Not hot, yet. Staff are friendly and helpful. Don't be in a rush everyone wants to play these days.
Nice Layout
Very nice layout. Unique location on the campus of Texas A & M. Kyle Field in view for the entire round. Conditions were good for this time of the year. Greens were true and decent speed. Clubhouse attendant seemed like she wished she was doing something else, not unfriendly but just looked like beating in time.
Greens really shine.
Tougher than it looks. Greens are in immaculate condition for early February. Odd cart rules imo- if there are two singles they’re putting you both in the same cart which I do not prefer as it slows pace and carts are slow as molasses. They also are hit/miss when it comes to group sizes, played as a 5 some the day previous, and had a group of 5 in front of us on the day for which this review covers. Less than ideal but it was 80° and 45/47 makes everything better.
There are very limited options in this area and the course requires local knowledge if you’re wanting to score well. Overall a good course for a yankee to work out the kinks of winter.
Wet, windy and cold made for a long course.
A nice layout with elevation. Greens are in good condition and fast. Apparently this time of year they put a tarp on all of the greens at night.
The course is surrounded by the Texas A&M Campus, highlighted by the football Stadium and the College Station City Hall.
The course was wet, with windy conditions making for a very long course, particularly on a 50 something degree day!
Negatives are that there are unfilled divots everywhere, and many unfixed ball marks. . As explained to me in the Pro shop, most of the golfers are College students. I don't quite understand why college students can't take pride in their college's golf course? Maybe they should be required to take an exam on taking care of their course before being allowed to play on it?
I would like to play this course again during the "dry season" to be able to get the benefit of the "Texas Roll" that is needed to make this course more manageable.
January
To be able to get in a round is wonderful. Staff are great and helpful. Considering the weather of late maintenance staff are doing all they can to maximize play. I appreciate the effort. A note to players, please take a couple clubs when it's cart path only. If you are some distance from cart the pace of play can be improved with some forethought.
Hail storm riddle greens
All the greens were pummeled by hail a few weeks ago. It's like putting on Swiss cheese.
A great course
This is a very nice course only problem is the greens have divots on them
