Slow play
This is the first time I played this course. Our tee time was for 11:20, but we didn't end up finishing until almost 6 o' clock. It would appear that they had booked tee times in the middle of a tournament. We didn't even end up going off until almost noon, and had an almost 45 minute wait on the second tee box. Additionally, we saw the beverage cart only once until someone in our group called the club house to complain. I did like the course, and this may have been an isolated incident, but I have never seen a more mismanaged situation than this. They even had a fivesome as the group in front us. A fivesome of really old and poor golfers on a Saturday? Really? They did end up giving us a free nine holes for the hassle, but if I have anything close to the same experience the next time I go out, it will indeed be the last time I play this course.
The course itself is beautiful and well maintained. I cannot say the same for the other groups of people that were playing the day that we were.
When you are on course for it to take upwards of 6 to 6 1/2 hours to play 18 holes, it becomes somewhat unenjoyable.
The twosome that we were paired with continually took 2 or 3 tee shots, not to mention numerable mulligans throughout the course of play. It seemed as if almost everyone played at a snails pace with absolutely no regard for other players. Others looked for their balls for eons instead of just dropping and taking a penalty.
We continually waited 10, sometimes 15 minutes before we could tee off. They either need to have marshalls keeping the players playing on pace or increase the time between starts.
We ended up quitting on number 14 after 4 hours and 45 minutes.
Great Course
Challenging, strategic, open, & fast greens. Get there early any day. Fells up fast.
Great course
One of the best kept secrets in Dallss. The course is a championship course. The fairways condition are one of the best I have played in . Course layout is great. If you really want a challenge play fron the back tees. All in all a grat course.
Tough for beginner golfer, but fun!!
Beautiful course but challenging. I am a beginner golfer, so it might not be that way for others.
Fantastic layout with great conditions and awesome history behind the course
The course is not a long course even from playing the tips. The greens are the original size that they were back in the days of the Dallas Open. Tree lines course with a lot of bunkers and a few water hazards that come into play. The scorecard does not have a picture of the holes so you have to rely on the diagram on the tee box but for one hole that was not even correct. All in all great course with the conditions and the history.
This is a hidden treat and a quality track
This is a classic course that can challenge any player.
MOST FUN I'VE HAD IN DALLAS!
Folks, these guys are pros and I've not experienced this level of friendliness anywhere else in Dallas. I was a single GolfNow deal and they were so welcoming, and the course was amazing. I highly recommend GC of Dallas - keep it beautiful, play fast, fix ball marks & divots, and support this place.
Loved it so much I'm going back TODAY!! =)
Great course
I cannot wait to play this course again. Course in good shape. All employees were very nice and helpful. Highly recommend.
Loved the track layout.
The greens were recovering from aeration which caused some putts to bounce off line. Pace on the greens was exceptional considering the aeration. Will be in great shape in a couple of weeks with some water on the greens. Some of the fairways could use a little water. Staff was extremely friendly and encouraged me to come back soon. I will definitely be going back over the summer and fall.
Driving range could use a few more markers to indicate distance to flags.
Fairway sprinklers could have used more yardages. Plan on taking a GPS or other rangefinder.
Greens were in rough shape.
Greens needed attention. Lots of weeds. Fairways in decent shape. Ok for the money.
Great course
Course was very nice, not narrow or small greens like other reviews stated. However, they were in the middle of course aeration and the back 9 holes were closed. Front 9 were done the day before, so there were lots of holes and dirt residue on the fairways, but should be improved after last nights rain. The greens were very heavily sanded and made putting slow and unpredictable. I would go there again, but I would suggest calling first to see if the sand was off the greens.
Not worth the drive
The greens were a little rough around the edges, the fairways were thick, the fairway grass was something out of my backyard. The course has no real markers or directionals, so you MUST have GPS to know where you are going
Teh Golf Club of Dallas is a good round
Been looking to play The Golf Club of Dallas for since a friend of mine said it was pretty good. He was correct. Course is the old Oak Cliff CC that has opened itself up for public play. The course has quite a history which is a good read before you go play there. The course is pretty far south so be prepared for a drive.
The course was in very good condition and was runs a little firm and fast. The greens are a small and don't have much undulation, but that it helps protect the course from lower scores. I will say that despite not having much undulation the breaks on most greens are subtle and actually takes some time to get used to. The sand traps were in very good condition as well which is more than I can say about Indian Creek these days.
The course is a little short by today's standards, but from the blacks (tips) it stretches to 6700+. There are some really good holes on the course and it reminds me a lot of Cedar Crest on the south side of the Trinity River in Oak Cliff. I played from the back and usually shoot in the low 80's, but shot 86 on this day partly because of not being familiar with the course and a couple poor decisions.
One suggestion for playing the course is to bring a flop shot. With the greens being small and firm a flop shot is necessary if you want to get anywhere near the pin to recover if you miss them.
well maintained, and difficult
Had a great time,,everyone was nice. Very challenging short game,,,wonderful fairways,,narrow, lay-ups are great. and I lost more balls next to the fairway in the short grass than I ever thought ...Bring exra balls because you will not be retrieving from the creeks--they are too deep.
Fun Course
Overall a good course - fairways, tee boxes, and the greens were all in good shape. 2-3 of the par 4's requires a fairly accurate tee shot, but the rest were pretty wide open.
The greens were in very good shape and consistent. Despite the heck of a storm we had two nights prior, the greens were pretty hard. It took me about 5 holes to adjust my approach shots, the first few holes I played to the middle of the green and the ball ended up off the back. Usually my ball stops where it hits, but not here. Putting wise the ball rolled well and broke consistently so I was happy about that.
Lots of character. Variety of shots needed.
Mature course with well-framed holes. Variety of challenging and birdie-able holes.
Older Layout - Slow Play
GC of Dallas has some old course charm, smaller greens, limited bunkers and a few simple creeks. For a Sunday afternoon round the course had no marshalls and we payed with a multiple hole gap two groups ahead of ours. The few weekends rounds I have played at GC of Dallas have been slow for no real reason. The greens are small but in good condition. The fairway and rough seemed to not live through last summer well and there is significant growing required to fill in some patches. Overall for under $40 this is an acceptable course.
Lots and lots of trees
Hit 'em straight is all I have to say...still a fun course though
Great old style course with fast Tiny greens. Lovedem
Not very long bu challenging small greens with plenty of speed
When you played on 6/2, the greens had been aerated only 5 days earlier, so it is to be expected that they would be in rough shape. I played yesterday and they are fully healed and looking great!
