The Links at Southwind Country Club (previously known as SouthWind Golf Club) is a course that is as scenic as it is challenging. The layout tumbles down across the hillsides of Fairburn, across dramatic elevation changes and through towering, mature pines. Unique rock formations accent the golf course and water hazards come into play on several holes. There are an interesting variety of holes that offer something for every skill level. The challenges of the course come mostly from the constant up-and-down of the rugged terrain. The different slopes of each hole require both accuracy and a good strategy. There are also a number of bunkers to contend with, their placement strategically determined by the elevations changes. One of The Links at Southwind Country Club's most difficult holes is the par-5 10th, which has not one but two large water hazards running along the right side.

Deteriorating Conditions
I've played this course quite a bit over the past few years. Form what i remember, new management took over a couple years ago, and worked on improving course conditions as well as they could, and started with the greens.
They certainly made progress up to about a year ago. Since then, conditions have drastically gotten worse. I used to really enjoy playing this track. It's generally not crowded so pace of play is nice, and the layout is pretty challenging, especially from the tips. But the last couple times i've gone, it's been almost unplayable.
The fairways are patchy at best and impossible to differentiate from the rough. The greens haven't been mowed or aerated, and appear to be scarred from disease or poor maintenance. They made progress with this in the past, but it looks like it's going the other way. Like another reviewer mentioned, the ponds are mostly dry and the edges of the course are not so aesthetic, but this could easily be overlooked if the course was in decent playing condition.
I used to play here every couple weeks, but after this past weekend, i won't be back until late season at best, assuming there are some improvements. You can even look at the GolfNow reviews to see how the recommendation rate has dropped from all time, to 12 months, to 6 months (73% to 29%).
It's a super fun track when in playable shape though, so i really hope they can turn it around.
Just happy to play golf
Dirt and rocks in the fairways and greens in horrible condition. Greens was extremely patchy and shaggy. Nice layout though.
An honest review
First of all I love to play new courses and I'm willing to drive an hour or even more to play. This was a great deal and I read the reviews and knew the course would be far from perfect but I wanted the chance to play a new course. The people were friendly and the pace of play was great.
This is a course with a very interesting and challenging layout that just needs a LOT of TLC. If this course were in good shape it would be a great play. It's obvious that they have had a bad run and there are some relatively cheap things they could do to get me to come back. The greens and fairways need mowing and maintenance badly (they looked like they had now been mowed in a week). The bunkers need to be raked and maintained. Many of the lakes and ponds on the course are empty...not sure if they used this water to keep the course alive in the hot months but in many cases it's all gone. The course has not been aerated and there are a lot of weeds that will require a lot of treatments to get in check (this is a luxury at this point but as I stated above, basic mowing and trimming would go a long way). Just some basic maintenance here would make this a great play for the money spent. there are some great elevation changes, challenging tee shots, and some great views. The course is short but many of the holes force you to make shots. All of the other rough edges are easily overlooked and forgiven if some love and attention is put into this course. I won’t be back until I hear things have improved (it was a pretty long drive for me to get there) but I do hope this course makes a comeback as I would love to play it again in better shape.
Great Potential
Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens are in need of some serious maintenance. The Course layout is great with some challenging holes and nice views.
Good game
Overall the course was in good condition. The greens need a lot of work in order to make it more competive. The staff was great and very friendly.
Worst course ever!!
Condition of the whole course was very very bad, need some MAJOR renovations. Cart path was uneven, lots of potholes, very dangerous to drive, may need to prepare to jump off the golf cart when driving downhill. Weed at tee box was very tall, blue and red tee are okay, black tee was about 4"-6" tall. Fairway has very little amount of grass and very uneven, when you ride the cart, just bumping up and down. Green made the most disappointment. There's only 3-4 greens are acceptable, the rest of them, unbelievable worst, bald patches, very bad shape, 2 putts is the best you can do. The club house also disappointed, only selling some clothes, balls and shoes, and that's it. Oh, they also sell hot dog ($4) with cold bun, and WITHOUT ketchup or mustard. Only good thing is the pace of play, I finished 18 holes in less than 3 hours, of course, nobody is playing. Totally waste of time and money.
Needs lots of work
Very fun and challenging layout. Very, very poor condition
fun course
this course is fun to play. lots of elevation. greens bad shape but character of course makes it worth while. when they get greens in good shape this will be great course.
Can only go up from here
New owners got their hands full bringing this course around. Several of the greens are in bad shape. Fairways have never been the best but you can make due because the greens were always in good shape. Lots of bare spots in the fairways. Bunkers are void of good sand. Best thing right now are the tee boxes. Hopefully they'll get it to come around because the course has potential with its challenging layout. Let's hope this review gets better in a few months.
New Management, hopeful for improvement
Used to play this course in 2015 now and then, but stopped towards end of year when conditions didn't improve much. It's in pretty rough shape but still have tremendous potential. LOVE the layout, the elevation changes... as picturesque a course from a design perspective, as I've played. Fairways are a bit bare, still bumpy, and greens are 50-70% "cratered". Lots of work needed but new management says they'll turn it around. I would avoid paying more than $20-$25 for now, as it's just not worth more. But I will again play OFTEN if/when they fix it up a bit. Blind tee shots, reachable par 5's, a real shot-makers course. It's a 40 minute drive for me, but I will play at Hot Rate price again.
Greens
Wonderful course but the greens need work
Needs A Lot of Work
This course is in rough shape. Long grass on the greens, torn up greens with lots of bald patches, fairways are full of bumps, dips and bald spots. Cart paths are non-existent in some places and super rough in others. The clubhouse is little more than a desk to check you in and sell range balls. No liquor license. Cart windshield was so dirty that it was difficult to see out of it when the sun was shining straight on.
Bad greens
Booked the tee time not knowing about the greens situation. In fairness, the pro shop made us aware when we checked in but we were already there by then.
Total Dog Track
We've been playing this course over the past year since it opened. It was a total gem and close to the city. With the rain this summer came the mold and the greens are just awful. Completely pocked up. You know its going to be bad when the greens have more sand than grass. I thought we hit a great deal with the Hot Deal pricing. Once we got out there I was actually offended to still have paid what we did. And then on top of that, they were charging anyone else $35 to play this course which is totally offensive.
Listen, it was a beautiful day. The sun was out and we had the whole course to ourselves so is it worth it to pay $35 to play on the course alone? For that reason alone, yes. But do you expect to be playing on a nice course for $35? Yes, absolutely.
Some other courses around the city give in to the course conditions and charge really cheap rates which then make the course conditions forgivable and playable. Someone charging you $35 to play on a course like this is just flat out offensive.
I hear they are under new management. I hope they can turn this course around. But I'm not sure how long they will last if they continue to charge $35 to play on this dog track of a course right now.
Wait Til Spring, 2017...
My first time here...It's mid October, 2016, and no where is more beautiful than Georgia, in the Fall, as the leaves start to change their colors! From the west, Brilliant Colored Airplanes past just overhead, towards Hartford-Jackson, but...I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING TO MYSELF...Why? Cause this is the Worst Shape golf course, I've ever played, in my 6 month career...No, River's Edge, in Clayton County is worst, but that course has been abandon for some 4 years now, but I like to hit balls there, cause it's free!!! You can't tell the Fairways from the Roughs at SouthWind, plus the Greens were like putting on the Beach! I Can't Stop Laughing, cause the sign, where pin locations normally go in a cart, says: "4 Round Special $100.00". Hahaha, GolfNow, thanks for the $10 Hot Deal, but I wouldn't pay $5, to golf here, now...Wait til next Spring, cause this Course is in bad need of a HAIRCUT! In the Spring, of 2017, I am going to put this Course in My Top 3 Courses, right besides, Coweta Club at Arbor Springs, in Newnan, GA. and CrossCreek Golf Club, in the Temecula Valley, California...looking forward to Re-reviewing this course, when bought back from the Ashes, under it's, now week old, new management company...
c l bynum
very disappointed .
played this course in the past and was a good place to play.
moved to other side of town and did not play for six months. came back to play with old friend and was informed they had new owners and they have let this course get into very bad shape. Has not been kept up. Greens were just dirt and sand, not much grass .Fairways were terrible. will not go back.
It's a started course for sure!
Had to be the worst kept golf courses I've played on.
