The Links at Southwind Country Club (previously known as SouthWind Golf Club) is a course that is as scenic as it is challenging. The layout tumbles down across the hillsides of Fairburn, across dramatic elevation changes and through towering, mature pines. Unique rock formations accent the golf course and water hazards come into play on several holes. There are an interesting variety of holes that offer something for every skill level. The challenges of the course come mostly from the constant up-and-down of the rugged terrain. The different slopes of each hole require both accuracy and a good strategy. There are also a number of bunkers to contend with, their placement strategically determined by the elevations changes. One of The Links at Southwind Country Club's most difficult holes is the par-5 10th, which has not one but two large water hazards running along the right side.

Barley Playable
I hate to give the course a bad rating but it's barely playable. The fairways are bare and hard on every hole.
I think they should close the course for a while and put some some work into the fairways. It's a great layout so if the fairways were better it would be worth paying the normal green fee.
The greens are in great shape but are rolling very slowly.
Seen this course better.
Bumpy, uneven, and weedy fairways. Greens looked great but were really slow.
Red Clay and Concrete Fairways
I played this course because I had a hot deals coupon with Golf Now. The reviews looked decent and often aimed at the great job the new management has done turning the course around. I don't argue that they probably have improved the course but there is still a lot of work to be done.
Fairways were essentially rough with weeds sprinkled throughout. Turf grass has withered, eroded or was never used. Instead there are patchy weedy areas with red clay showing. The ground is so hard that you should expect the ball to take some high bounces and have a lot of roll.
Greens are the nicest part of the course but the grass is kept long so expect it to be slow.
It is a nice setting and very challenging course so I hope some improvements can be made on its current condition.
Greens Good - Fairways Concrete
For the price, this is a somewhat playable course.
The development seems to be in flux and there is some evidence of decay - tennis courts near clubhouse are abandoned. There are many lots available in the development though it appears to have been around for years.
I played here on a Saturday afternoon when I had to pick up wife from the airport in the evening. Seemed like a good idea and an adventure to find something near the airport on a Saturday afternoon when I had to head to that part of the metro anyway.
The greens are green - softish but playable. Frankly, this appears to be the only part of the course that is being maintained. The fairways are so hard that I was afraid I might damage my clubs - no grass - hard red clay - had to move the ball to a lump of weeds on most every shot. "Driving Range" is short, unmaintained and you can only use irons.
There are no rangers - caught up to a group of 6 with two kids and was unable to complete my round - made it through 14 holes if I recall...
The layout is actually quite good - surprising that it is so close to the airport. Mountainous feeling with good views - similar to something you would see in Forsyth or Cherokee counties. With the concrete fairways - my drives were awesome - one went over 300 yards with the downhill concrete fairway effect...
I hope this course makes it. It was quite slow for a beautiful spring Saturday - so I have my doubts.
The folks at the clubhouse are great.
Great
Friendly Staff, nice Course
Great track. Greens are great
Great track. Greens are great. The new ownership has really turned this course around. Must play
Excellent greens and superior Drainage systems!
After all the torrential rainfall we experienced lately, plus the additional heavy rainfall the night before my round, I did not expect much. However, the course was in fantastic shape. Most of the holes played well. There were only two or there wet areas that negatively efffected my ball. Furthermore the greens were in excellent shape -- no water problems at all. All public courses should strive to be like Southwind The cost was ok. I usually play Durham lakes. I could play there for around $25 most of the time. However, Durham Lakes is closed until spring. So I will be playing here all through out winter. Even if it rains, I know they have superior Drainage systems. Come play this course. Yep, it gets crowded sometimes. And some folks that go here either don't know anything about Golf etiquette or they simply don`t care. Also, the pace of play get slow. I had to simply drive past a foursome because they never would wave me on. I don't think the concept of what waving someone through even occurred them. Once i got ahead of them, I was free to advance. Go and Play Southwind!
Great, Hidden Gem
Just recently stumbled upon this great hidden gem of a course. Have played it 3x times now and will go back. Can't believe in all of my years playing golf in Atlanta that I've never heard of this course. Will continue to go so hopefully they can put more money in to the course. Most of the greens were in great shape. Played with my hubby and had the course all to ourselves.
Greens fantastic, layout a challenge off the tee, fairways have hard-pan grass, beautiful views!
It is a course that is almost shocking to feel as if you are playing a course in the mountains, but you are only a few miles from Atlanta's Hartsville International Airport!
You get what you pay for!
This course has a great layout. Though it's a short course, it's challenging due to tight sloping fairways and bunkers off the tees. They even have a few big boulders mixed in to make things interesting. Most fairways are in rough condition with dirt patches, but has gotten better since the last time I played. The sand in the bunkers are well maintained, fluffy sand, not that hard compact sand you find at most courses in this price range. The greens are in great shape. Only 2 greens where questionable with some rough patches. Not much of a driving range here. It's very small and irons only. All in all, this is a beautiful course with great layout. Hopefully they will continue to work on those fairways and find a way to improve on the driving range.
Nice Surprise
Looking for somewhere different to play. Took a chance with Southwind. I was very surprised. All greens were in great shape, bent grass. Fairways were hard and narrow. Elevation changes were interesting. Understand management has worked hard improving the facility. It's obvious they have worked hard. Layout is great, views great, trees were changing colors, and my golf game was terrible. I will return and play again. Give it a try!
Fantastic Progress!
Under it's new ownership and recovering quickly, Southland is a fantastic experience that is getting better in a hurry. They are committed to giving a great experience for a great price. The course was in pretty good condition with a few dirt patches due to a long time of negligence. The new ownership is taking care of this and more. The greens are some the best you'll find at a course that doesn't charge an arm and a leg. The course is challenging because there are not many places to bail out on the sides. Though it's not long there is plenty of hazards and tee box placements that dare you to take a chance. It's not far from the ATL airport, so if you find yourself in town, give this place a few shots.
A nice place to play
I found this course a great challenge. The first hole was a concern because of the short fairway grass. After that the course was very intertaining. There is plenty of elevation and water hazards to challenge anyone. Seems the trouble ends up right before the bunker. A few bad spots on the greens but it was the last of September. I will definitely play here again.
Southside Gem
Just played Southwind for 20th time love the layout and find it to be the best track on the southside of atlanta. Conditions were great. The greens were aerified but so is everyones that have bent grass. The proshop staff is the friendliest in atlanta, and always attentive to the players needs. If you would have seen this place two years ago, you would not have believed it was the same place. The new ownership is working very hard to produce a great facility for the area, and i will continue to play here. Love the challenge and the conditions are always good. Best place on the southside for skins game or corporate outing. Rock on Southwind!
First time in Atlanta
Pros: It was outdoors, and it was a golf course.
Staying in Atlanta, overnight. Had time to kill. Found this course on Gofnow. The reviews were rather good, so I booked an 8AM tee time. Arrived early for warm up, the parking lot was empty, and the clubhouse was dark. Clubhouse attendant shows up about 7:30. Then he commenced to line up golf carts. . This left very little time, so went straight to the first tee. I wanted to purchase a logo ball for my collection, none to be found.
Found the course to be in rough shape. I was aware of green aerification, and planned for that. But,the fairways were shaggy. They looked to have been unmown for some time. Mushrooms were growing on the fairways and tee boxes. At times, you could not tell where the fairway stopped and the rough started.
There appeared to be more sand on the greens, due to aerification, then there was in the bunkers. In some cases, the sand had been shoved to the edges of the bunkers by machinery.
Some of the greens had bare spots, with sections where the grass was taller than the fairways.
On the 18th hole, I went to move what I thought was a piece of dirt from plugging that was sand covered. Came to find out it was a weed growing in the green surface, no more than 8 inches from where the cup was cut.
It appeared that Atlanta had taken some heavy rains, and I hoped this was the reason for lack of maintenance.
After completing my round, I asked where the computer was so I could post to GHIN, I was told they did not have one.
Then I went in to the bar/restaurant area. The bar appeared well stocked, but there was no one there to serve food or beverage. Also, did not see a refreshment cart the whole time I was there. The "pro shop" did have a small selection of snacks and beverages for purchase.
All in all, not a positive experience.
Shaping up
The course is really looking good. The staff is awesome and you can see all of the improvements. I really like this course.
Great value for your money.
Yes there are some rough spots in some of the fairways. Some of the greens need work. I was told they are aerating the greens soon. However the challenge of the layout and greens fee are worth the outing. I have played here before and will go again for the value.
Awesome course!
played here for the first time and i was very happy with the course. Yes there were some weeds on some fairways, but what is that going to matter? For tue price and the quality of the course, who are we to complain?
The elevation changes were awesome, it kept the course very exciting.
So unless you're a millionaire writing and comaining about courses, give credit where it's due.
Southwind
This is a tough course for an average golfer with all the woods that are at the front of the tee boxes
