Potomac Ridge - Ridge Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business.
Potomac Ridge is one of southern Maryland's most popular golfing destinations. With easy access from both Prince George's and Charles Counties as well as Alexandria and and Annapolis, the course is a favorite among locals and visitors. It's also conveniently located near National Harbor and it's less than 20 miles from downtown D.C. The golf course is made up of 27 holes that are divided into the Hollow, Meadows, and Ridge nines. The Ridge nine was added nearly a decade after the other two nines. It was also designed by Tom Walker while the original 18-hole course is an Tom Clark design. The Ridge Course is the second longest of the three nines at 3,372 yards but it's only shorter than the Hollow nine by three yards. It's the most challenging nine but they are all player friendly enough to appeal to low and high handicappers alike.

Potomac ridge
I have played here once before and did not have high expectations but it was a good deal on Golfnow for about $20 and close to work. The pro seemed genuinely annoyed I had used Golfnow and said it was a "trade" time and he got no $ for it. He literally watched his watch to make sure I teed off exactly at my tee time even though there was 6 cars in the lot and nobody on the first couple of holes. I was pleasantly surprised with the greens on the front but they absolutely soaked the greens on the back to the point that there was basically casual water on the greens.
Potomac Ridge
Potomac Ridge is a very nice golf course to play. It clean, quite, and scenic with rolling hills, water , tons of tall trees and high grass to stay clear of. I lost a few balls that landed in the middle of the fairway, but disappeared magically. The price of play is a little higher than most courses in the area, but there is really nothing to complain about. If you can find a discount app this quickly becomes one of the best values in Maryland
good challenging course
The first time that I can remember playing anywhere where there was virtually no drinking water on the course. It was so bad that my playing partner called the clubhouse to ask where the water was. The response was indifferent. We finally found water on the 13th or 14th hole. Was not happy about that.
Potomac Ridge not what it use to be
Have played Potomac Ridge for years course has definitely gone down. With the prices the course charges it was a major disappointment. There had been rain in the area but the bunkers were terrible, not raked basically all rocks no sand glad I only found 1 in my round. No matter what you pay you should be able to hit practice balls for free and not $25 dollars. Greens were just OK in rough shape, there are courses around that are cheaper and in much better shape.
THE GOLF SHOP STAFF HATES GOLF NOW CUSTOMERS
The course layout is fair and the conditions were below average with un mowed fairways, crabgrass rough, and greens that were not smooth. What was curious was the way the gentleman in the golf shop treated us knowing that we made our tee time on GOLF NOW. He specifically told us that we because we booked on GOLF NOW for a discounted rate, we had to carry our bags up the hill to the driving range and then come back to pro shop in 10 minutes. There were 15 carts waiting to be used and were being used by the other customers who had walked up. In the 500 golf courses I have played in my life, I have never been treated worse. If you don't mind being openly treated like a second class citizen to play a pretty average course, this is the place to go.
This course is a must play.
I really enjoyed playing this course, it offers everything you look for in a round of golf. The price is perfect and the variety is unbelievable!!!!!!
Three (9) hole courses offer variety
Being able to mix up 9 hole tandems offer a new look each time you play 18, but don't look to be able to choose your course. You will be directed as to which courses to play, Hopefully, you get the opportunity to play variations of the three courses. Played the "Meadows" and "Hollow" courses. Conditions were good and are showing improvements in the works. Did not get to play the "Ridge" course. Maybe next time, hopefully, for some variety.
Improved
While this course is the closest to my home I have not played it in more than 3 years. I really enjoy the layout but the bang for the buck just was not there and atmosphere less than friendly. It has definitely improved. We played in near 90 degree weather with a 10 am start and none of the water stations had water. The greenside bunkers had very little sand, had not been racked for days and were packed with medium size stones. Just a few improvements in these areas would make this course a very good value and I would probably make this my home course.
Good Golfing
The course was in good condition overall experience was very good
This course has no features
This is my first time playing this course, The staff has poor Service, and the course conditon is not with the money.
Rain changed my game
Very nice course .. Great value.. was pouring down rain front 9 and course was still very playable .. Lol don't get a lot of roll ,,,
Got to back 9 had already started drying up ... Greens are in good shap very nice to Putt on .. Staff very nice ... Can't wait to go back on ☀️⛳️
Didn't honor my tee time
Booked online and was told by the course that they wouldn't honor my tee time. They didn't let me know until one hour prior to my tee time. I have played this course in the past and the staff is very rude and the course conditions have gotten progressively worse.
Not as advertised
This course is in horrible shape. Avoid at all cost.
Bad day at the farm
NO grass in Fairways, and no separation of "fairway" and rough........ Terrible
Fairways not in good condition
Tee boxes & greens are in pretty decent shape . Fairways on all 27 holes are in very poor condition at this time lots and lots of crabgrass and have not been cut in a while..
Short grass is your friend
Played the ridge and meadows, good mix of holes. Rough is very thick critical to stay in fairway. Greens had been aerated about a week prior and the greens were slow but in good condition.
This Course Needs Improvements
Unfortunately, management has not done anything to make this course appealing. The tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, and greens are all in poor condition. Some bunkers have collapsed and some have rocks where sand should be. This course was really nice ten years ago but it has gradually deteriorated as the years have passed. It is currently in its worse condition. The course has great potential and is appreciated by the community. Management should work aggressively to show their patrons that they are appreciated by making the improvements that are needed in order for patrons to have a satisfactory experience. Patrons want to come back but only if we have a fair chance to enjoy a satisfactory round when we return. It is also annoying that this course has a DON'T ARRIVE UNTIL 20 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR TEE TIME POLICY" for players who take advantage of on line discounted tee times that are offered. This policy contradicts the spirit of normal preparation to enjoy a round of golf. Patrons want to give this course a 5 star rating but management needs to do their part to earn 5 stars and retain their loyal patron base.
The couse needs some work
Not much grass on the course, the Bermuda was still brown and in need of weeding. The greens had been aerated and play on them was pure luck.
Price is right and not crowded
Price for 18 holes was great and play was fast. Greens were recently aerated so putting was impossible. Fairways are Bermuda grass and we're still brown but played well
Pot Ridge
We played the ridge and the hollow. Nice track with some tricky holes. Staff was okay but not very professional. I would go back if I got a chep deal to play there.
