Potomac Ridge - Ridge Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business.
Potomac Ridge is one of southern Maryland's most popular golfing destinations. With easy access from both Prince George's and Charles Counties as well as Alexandria and and Annapolis, the course is a favorite among locals and visitors. It's also conveniently located near National Harbor and it's less than 20 miles from downtown D.C. The golf course is made up of 27 holes that are divided into the Hollow, Meadows, and Ridge nines. The Ridge nine was added nearly a decade after the other two nines. It was also designed by Tom Walker while the original 18-hole course is an Tom Clark design. The Ridge Course is the second longest of the three nines at 3,372 yards but it's only shorter than the Hollow nine by three yards. It's the most challenging nine but they are all player friendly enough to appeal to low and high handicappers alike.

Course is challenging and fun to play.
I enjoy course and have played there regularly, as it is convenient and close to my residence. I have not found the check in staff to be friendly, compared to other courses. Additionally, there seems to be some descrepancies regarding checking in and fees for range balls. I have checked early and gone to range with no fee, been told to pay for range balls even though I have paid for around of golf, have paid range fees for one person & told that playing partner could use also without additional fee, have been told that each player has to pay for range balls. Have gotten to course early and told I can't check until approx.15-20 minutes, prior to tee time. If I hadn't pre paid and scheduled a tee time, I could somewhat understand, but pre paid & scheduled tee time, give me a break! I'm checking in, not going out until scheduled tee time, unless directed to go by staff.
A gem off the beaten track
Potomac Ridge features three diverse nines, each with challenges, and some easier holes for fun. We played the Meadows and Ridge nines, although I enjoy the Hollow just as much. Some fairways are narrow and a tee shot off line will wind up in the woods. Some greens are multi-tiered, with three-putts looming from the wrong side of the hole. Conditions were above average and the pace of play was good. An enjoyable experience, even with a double-bogey on the last hole.
course is fine. Staff is not service oriented
Played Hollow and Ridge . course conditions were good. Pace was excellent .
Great Experience want to go back already.
We played Ridge and Hollow. The course, especially Ridge, was in great condition. Fast greens that rolled true, and tight fairways. Hollow was more a typical layout, but still in decent shape.
Pace on the front was near two hours even though it is the longer of the two nines. The group ahead slowed markedly on the back. The range tried to speed play, but had no effect on the group.
Solid course
Have been to Potomac Ridge a few times over the years. Played Hollow and Meadows 9's this time around. Got there early, so I had a chance to take advantage of the nice putting and short game areas. Didn't go there this time, but the range is good, too.
Room for improvement (e.g. spotty bunker maintenance), but solid course with varied layout on the rolling property. Looking forward to going again with online deal.
Decent value, course needs work
We played the Meadows and Ridge courses. The Ridge course was definitely in better shape, but overall many of the tee boxes were in rough shape, and the bunkers were not good at all. The fairways and greens were solid (although the greens were a tad slow). My biggest problem was the number of blind shots, particularly on the Ridge course. On a number of occasions we hit what we thought were very good shots, only to lose the ball because the shot was blind...very frustrating.
Good value using GolfNow
With the exception of the bunkers, the course was is very good shape. The bunkers were hard -- about a quarter inch of sand on top of dirt -- could not get the clubface under enough sand to blast out.
One of the best deals going
This is one of my favorite courses in the DC metro area. The course is well maintained and has just enough character to make it interesting time and again.
18 Holes
Nice Course! Par 3s short and long, dogleg rights & lefts, tough par 5s.
The course can be played by golfiers at any levels.
Some staff members working in the Pro Shop are not very customer centered. I have experienced this as an issue for the past three years. I live within walking distance of the course and only play the course when I can get a good discount. My family has offered to purchase a membership and I have discouraged the idea. I have gift cards to play at the course and have not used them for the same reason. I played 8/27 and 8/28. However, I like the course!
Enjoy playing this course. Club staff very friendly and helpful.
Nice course. Not too crowded during the week. Good values. Some holes are long for ladies. Would recommend to anyone.
Only negative is cafeteria personnel not very people friendly.
My favorite course
Course was in good shape, great staff, and good course options with 3 to play.
Course was in very good shape.
Enjoyed playing this course. One of the better ones I have played this season.
I really enjoyed playing this course.
The course was in excellent condition and fun to play.
No marshals.
No marshal that day, so folks walking on to the 1st tee got in the way of folks with tee times.
We decided to jump to the "other" 9 in rotation that day, and got off only 11 minutes after our tee time.
Had we not done that, we may have had a 5 hr round....
fun and visually appealing
fine practice facilities. good mix of demanding and
relatively easy holes. fairways good, greens readable
and consistent. pace of play was exceptional, 2 of us
followed a threesome and still played in 3 1/2 hrs.
The course is challenging with sloping greens
I've played this course many years and it was in the best shape in years. The fairways were not burned or wet and the greens were in great condition as well.
Great value
This course has 27 holes but only the original 18 were open the day we played. The course is in good shape for August in the DC area except for the sand traps which can be dangerous to your clubs. On the ninth hole I hit a 4 inch diameter rock which was covered by sand an inch under the ball . It scarred my sand wedge which would have really bothered me if the wedge were new. The course design is nice with elevation change on many holes and no two holes are similar. The fairways and the greens are in very good condition. We enjoyed our round and look forward to a return visit.
great value for the course, staff could do better..
They don't like player booked from discounted online system. Got There early, course was pretty empty. But we have to wait until our booked tee time, or have to pay the difference to go out early...also, they don't let me play with replay rate...we have to pay full price for replay...staff can do better...
Just ok
I've played this course many times since it opened, and while it is not bad - it is a bit rough around the edges.
Negatives: The bunkers definately need sand! Hard to hit out of them. Many thin/bare areas along cart paths and rough.
Positives: Fairways and greens were in nice condition. Pace of play was normal.
Suggestion: The condition of the par three tee boxes and some fairways were potmarked with divots. The course provides sand both on the carts and at the tee box and players should take the time to fill them.
