Fun course to play
I enjoyed my experience at this course. Employees were courteous, friendly, helpful. The course itself was in good shape. Tight fairways, nice greens. Will go again.
Two putt to win!
A nice little course away from the crowds, There are definite signs of managements efforts to improve the golfing experience. We will go there again.
Tough Greens
Challenging course which I will try again. Unlucky to play the day all the greens had been aerated. The surface of ALL greens were like workshop pegboards which made putting nearly impossible. The greens were difficult enough without that as all or most of them had severe slopes leading away from the pins. Also, beware of hidden water. Many optical illusions hiding water from view. Tough on first time players.

Challenging course
If you want a good challenge then try this course. Staff is friendly. New signs up make it a lot less confusing. Course is in nice shape
I had fun
Nice course, far, but you can take your time and have a beautiful round of golf. Course is challenging, so be prepared to lose some balls. Staff are helpful and the course has redone the signage so you can easily find your way. They have also added a map to the card and have fixed the majority of the paths so they are more smooth.
Bugs & fairways
Being situated amongst the Black River, there are lots of mosquitos. It could have been the weather as well as it rained the day before. BRING YOUR REPELLENT.
The course is an interesting layout. The greens are well done and the conditions of most of the fairways are nice. Make sure that you follow the signage between 2 and 3 and 7 and 8.
Improvements:
- Flatter tee boxes. Some of the tee boxes are crowned and/or not smooth. This will come with time through grooming.
- Flatter greens. Some greens are wavy, instead of having subtle breaks, but are otherwise really nice.
- Better defined fairways. This was my major gripe. It wasn't obvious where the fairway was vs. the rough. The fairway on #1 and #2 needs work in this respect. Some of the fairways in the back of the property are really nice - they just need some definition.
- Hole #4 could use some manicuring around the creek because there is a good chance you won't see where your ball lands - even if you hit the fairway.
good to play with lots of water
it's improved holes sign, no too bad to find the next hole. staffs are very friendly. as lots of water near the holes, need to bring more balls than usual. we had fun.
don't judge course by entrance way and clubhouse
This is beautiful 9 hole course was great for both wife (beginner) and myself (12 handicap working on my game). Greens were not slow and held ball. Great value. Only critique, a little difficult figuring out how to play holes the first time.
first timer
it is a small, country, 9 hole course that is just getting started. Fairways and greens are in very good shape.
has several very challenging hole, 3 and7 and 8.
layout is a little confusing but nothing serious.
overall an excellent value thru golfnow. a great place to teach the kids how to play and the low handicappers will find it good too.
Disappointed. Not fun playing
Course is poorly designed for golf: going to next hole can be an adventure, tiny greens/fairways poor shape, many unknown hazards, tee boxes are in poor shape and for some reason they are tiny, narrow and tall. I did not bother putting out on some greens.
hole#3 can be dangerous if you slip near the green since there are rusty metal posts sticking out by the water.
Fun and challenging
The course has a strange design. It was a little confusing for me at the first 9. But I like it, and had not problem on the back 9. There are quite some water hazard on the course. Very nice to test the mental aspect of the game. We took a break at the club house and had some cold pop and snacks. The staffs are very friendly. I will come back for sure.
Nice and Quiet Course
The course is long with a few Par 5 and some challenging holes. Course is generally well maintained and Staff was very friendly. Would definitely come back for another round
Very disappointed
Course has more cons than pros. Pros: challenging course, fun to play. Cons: Terrible layout, can't even find the first tee. Got lost more than a few times. Geese poo all over the fairways. Some holes even cross eachother. The walk to the clubhouse showcases many broken tractors. Looks like a junkyard. Scorecard is confusing. Had a terrible experience because of the shape of the course. Wish they took better care. Do they even have food?
Not what I expected
I'm not the type who would normally comment on-line, but I was bewildered by this place. There are less than a dozen parking spots. I am uncertain if you can purchase food or beverages here. The rough and fairway are roughly the same height. BUT, the 3rd hole par 3 is definately challenging and fun. Would not recommend this place to a decent player, but a BLAST for a hacker to have some fun.
Deceiving!
I don't know who wrote the first review but it seem rather biased. Fisrt of all, when I got there the club house was close with a note on the door notifying that to golf I have to call a phone number. Upon calling and waiting an additional 15 mins before he gets there I was not given a receipt for my purchase or even a decent scorecard that maps out the course. The course was ridiculously disorganized and lack directions. On more then 3 occasions we were lost trying to remember the map the management showed us to get to the next hole. There are nothing that resembles fairways(not cut) and the trees were always in your way of reaching what should be the fairway which make holes impossible to plan for. No signs on holes so either. Also, there seem to be small swamps hidden all over the course that are leveled with the grounds making it impossible to see from even 100 yards out. It was a very disappointing experience that has left me and my friend feeling deceived by the course and golf now for allowing such bias rating to be marketed.
hidden gem
great design on a few holes, you'll find water on many holes and you'll lose a few balls
While we are disappointed in this review, there were several mitigating factors that have been left out. We, like most of Ontario, had experienced torrential storms the previous day. We explained that there was water pooling on several fairways and it would take a day or two to fully drain (we are in a river valley). Due to the heavy rainfall, the lower fairways were not able to be cut until the pooling had drained. There are no swamps on this course. Because of these conditions, an additional 20% discount was offered and accepted.
Finally, as satisfaction is important to BlackWater, we would like to offer this poster a free round of golf, so that he can fully enjoy our pesticide free golf course under normal conditions. Please call and ask for John or Nick
