The Club At Viniterra
About
Situated between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Club at Viniterra sprawls across abundantly wooded hills. There is no shortage of elevation changes on this Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead-designed golf course. There is a difference of as much as 70 feet from the tee to the green on most of the holes. When combined with the mature trees, the result is a tough layout that demands accuracy. Thankfully though, there are not many water hazards to contend with but there is strategically placed bunkering throughout. The golf course also provides a scenic round with working vineyards running alongside the lush fairways. In addition to being challenging, the Club at Viniterra prides itself on their environmentally sensitive practices. The golf course saves as much as 80 percent of the water used on traditional courses thanks to the use of a drought-resistant grass hybrid.

I think the course will be excellent once the Bermuda greens up
The course was painted green as the bermuda was still dormant. Once the bermuda comes in it should be an excellent course an layout. Don’t try to walk as it is a long was between greens and tees.
Great Time, Awesome Course
Challenging course with plenty of chances to score if you’re patient. Greens roll true and fast.
Great layout, challenging course.
7hc. Loved the layout. Lots of left, right, up, down. Greens have lots of interesting ridges and knolls. The course can play LONG-7400 yards. Winter time, but the fairways and greens were about as good as you could expect this time of year. No housing on the course. Really scenic and lovely.Pace of play was a little slow. A group two in front of us had at least one open hole, even as a 3some and no ranger to move them along. Also, the gas carts were crap: torn seats, muddy, not well kept. No real parking lot either. Really the only detractions from an otherwise fantastic facility. I assume as this gets built out, the carts and lot will improve.
Playable but don't expect to score
For a suprising warm February day, the course was in great condition.
A very fair layout as long as you can control your shots and keep out of the bunkers, which are fine but with severe lips. Greens were smooth and not unreasonably fast, though very hard to make any putts from distance since reading them this time of year is difficult, and always tough on Bermuda particularly if you are not accustomed to it, like me.
As with other courses in the area, you have to select the right tees to play or you are in for a very long and frustrating day. The course plays long and while there was some roll-out on drives, Bermuda just doesn't give you the nice rollouts you see on bent-grass fairway when dry. There's only one tricked-up hole, the last par 3 short and downhill making club selection and swing pace very, very tough.
Despite the inherent difficulty, it's a pleasure to play on a pristine layout very much like what you see on TV where pros play, and the back tees would offer them a challenge on this course.
It could be marked on fairways for distance better.
Rough weather spell
Tough time for golf courses. Viniterra is a great course and well worth playing. This day, I was happy the range was open to warm up. The course was still a bit soggy, cart path only. I wish more courses would adopt “riding the rough” when able instead of CPO. It would make courses more friendly to those who don’t or can’t play when it’s CPO and speed up play. There was still a surprising amount of snow on banks and in sand traps. Some of the bunkers were still frozen. None of this is a hit on the course nor manageable. The course was playing extra long and I should have moved up a tee. Greens were in pretty good shape and rolling at a good pace. Kitchen was closed but it was Tuesday in late January so… weather is not being kind to courses now but Viniterra is always worth playing
Never disappoints
Best fairways you'll find this time of year! Challenging course, you can easily use every club. If I lived closer, I'd seriously consider a membership.
