Great course with challenging layout!!
Course was a lot of fun and challenging for any type of golfer. The hilly terrain made for an eventful day of golf. My only thing was not being able to play the 11th hole due to maintenance…but the whole experience was very good either way. Hopefully the next time, my playing partner and I can play that 11th hole which looked like fun.
Course was in better shape than some!
Heat is taking its toll on all of ETX. Courses are struggling and this one is no different. good and bad areas, but wish they would let you know when they have a hole that is not even in use due to maintenance.
Good trip for first time. Course was decent shape. Only issue would say is we were not advised that hole 11 was closed which would have been explained before amd allowed to play a other hole as we paid for entire 18.
Tempest golf club
Course lay out very good. Staff very helpful. Other than it being 103 degrees outside it was a great day!
Great course and staff
Tempest is one of the finer course offerings in the area. The track is hard. My only concern is the houses that are being built around the course soon will be in danger of errant tee shots. I hate that. But the course is impossible to walk, a great challenge, and in good shape even with the harsh hot weather. A joy to play...when it is cooler.
Will be back, but expecting it to be better
Played Tempest with a large group 7 times this past weekend as part of an annual golf tournament. There was a lot to love about Tempest, but there were some issues that we ran into that prospective players may want to be aware of.
The course layout and design is fantastic. Unfortunately, Texas is going through a terribly hot summer that has limited the possibility of maintaining a plush golf course. However, I think there are some bigger issues than the heat affecting Tempest. A majority of the fairways are bare and the underlying rock/top soil base is showing. This combined with sandy fairways makes for some difficult strikes with the golf club and brutal lies.
They were laying sod on #11 on Sunday the 6th, so hopefully they choose to do this for all of the rough patches because it is brutal to find the fairway and be rewarded with having to hit off rocks essentially. I would recommend to the golf course to not undertake such a big course improvement project on a Sunday which involved closing a golf hole, that is what a Monday/Tuesday are for.
The greens are in excellent condition except for #5. There is a large grey area that needs to be re-sodded. The greens roll very true and are extremely receptive to iron shots. While slow, I was very happy with the greens.
However, we were disappointed in the fact that all of the pins did not change from Saturday to Sunday. These greens are awesome with multiple slopes and undulations that have the ability to test one's golf game, yet we ended up playing to the same pin location on half the holes between Saturday and Sunday. That was unfortunate and hopefully this isn't a normal occurrence.
Speaking of #5, I don't think anyone could grow grass on the upslope leading to the fairway. Maybe save the effort and ditch the grass and put in dirt/red rocks and make it a forced carry to get onto the fairway where you can grow grass rather than leaving half the hole looking like a West Texas dirt field where grass is supposed to be, just commit to not trying to grow grass maybe. That fairway is the worst out of the 14.
It is a shame there aren't water jugs on the course. They keep a water jug in the clubhouse and give you ice for it but the whole back 9 doesn't pass the clubhouse to fill up. This is dangerous in the summer and very unfortunate. Hopefully this will be remedied as water jugs are typically a staple of every golf course, especially one of the quality of Tempest.
I like to think a lot of the aesthetic issues with the golf course can be blamed on the tragic summer heat, so hopefully this course will be back to being pristine very soon. With that said, right now, I do not believe it is worth the $89 they're asking to play it on a weekend, maybe more like $59-69, but the same can be said for the majority of courses in Texas this summer, as the heat has wrecked havoc on the grass.
The amenities and staff were top class. Such great people and very down to Earth and fun to talk to. From the cart guys to the restaurant staff to the pro shop, we were taken very good care of and hopefully we made them aware of that. We loved the experience.
We stayed in the 2 houses owned by Tempest behind the range and they were in excellent condition. Highly recommend staying there when you play.
I'm looking forward to getting back out there and seeing it back in tip-top shape.
Great Layout but Very Slow
A great course, but after 4 hours for 13 holes and nobody allowing a single to play through I left out of frustration.
Slow play
The layout is really challenging. There are a lot of bad spots in the fairways and it’s really tough to get a tee in the ground on the tee boxes. I am a member, but when I have a guest, they are not impressed with the experience they get for the money they spend. The pace of play problem is mostly because of there being 4 holes on the front nine that are cart path only.
Had a wonderful time
Loved the course, it was hard & long but fun. The course was being repaired on several holes, so not knowing the course it was very difficult
Slow and Tough Conditions
My three sons in law and I drove over for a gun getaway from Dallas. When we arrived for our tee time we learned the driving range was closed. Not great. Once we began play we were almost immediately slowed behind other groups. We quickly found that four of the front nine holes were cart path only - and on this course that is a problem. But it was cart path only for good reason since the grass on the fairways needs to grow. Or even exist in spots. It wax a miserably hot day and water on tge course was non existent. All in all not a good experience and we’re sorry we made the drive from Dallas.
On the positive side of the scale - the clubhouse staff was outstanding as were the cart girls. Hats off to the entire team. We had a great breakfast since the driving range was closed and also great snacks following the round. Loved the fried pickles.
We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with the driving range being closed and the slow pace of play during your visit. We understand that the cart path only and the condition of the fairways affected your overall experience, and we value your feedback. We appreciate your compliments towards our clubhouse staff and cart girls, and we're glad you enjoyed the breakfast and snacks. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
No drinking water
There is no drinking water on the course. Heat index was 107 with no water.
Beautiful course in gladewater
No fault on the course. It had a lovely layout. Fairways were above average, greens tricky but challenging. Paying $100 for absolutely no service. The coolers in the carts should have filled with ice, ours didn't have a cooler. Saw the cart girl once in 18 holes.
Experience not commensurate price.
The fairways
The fairways are losing sod and red clay is exposed. Not the same as it was.
Thank you for your review. We apologize that the course conditions were not up to your expectations and appreciate your feedback.
Not bad condition but needs work, main downside was PoP
We teed off around 8 thinking we could be done before it got too hot. Fast forward almost 6 hours and we finally got off the course. We waited on every tee box 1-18 and every green to clear 1-18, most brutally slow round of golf I’ve ever experienced. At hole 11 the Marshall finally rolled up to us (my group and another 3 some were all sitting on the tee box waiting for the fairway to clear) and started asking us and the group in front of us accusatory questions about whether we had stopped to eat at the turn (none of us did, but I assure you we had time to stop for a full steak dinner with how long we sat at the 10 tee box). He then stormed ahead and said he would fix the problem. We proceeded to play 12-18 in a blazing 2.5 hours(sarcasm)! Once we finished, there was a shouting match going on with employees and patrons about pace of play, I thought about throwing in my two cents, but figured I’d never be back so it didn’t really matter. The greens were decent with the exception of some dead areas, there was sod netting all around the course that my soft spikes kept getting stuck in causing me to trip or move my ball to a spot with grass. Overall it has lost a lot of its luster over the past couple of years to me, definitely not worth $89. I’d maybe try it again if the tee times weren’t gapped at 4 min and it was priced appropriately (50-60$), but until then I’ll go elsewhere.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us, TMatlock13. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Tempest Golf Club, and we hope to see you again in the future.
Course was not in shape I remembered
Only play course once a year while visiting relatives. Always enjoy playing and layout a little tricky. Fairway on some holes required cart path only.
Staff was excellent as I remembered. Made tee time via GolfNow at a reduced rate.
Tempest golf valu
Excellent course in great condition. it is a bit overpriced reducing the overall value.

Not worth the money
This course was like playing golf in a pasture. Cart paths were in good condition, nice club house and good greens but the fairways were awful. The water coolers on the course were empty but you see the beer girls regularly.
You needed a hammer to tee up your ball on the tee boxes. This is certainly not a $100 weekday gold course.

Great course! Going through maintainer changes…
Course is a really great design and layout! Loved playing. The course was a little beat up, due to apparent changes in Greenskeeper. I have no doubt they will get this resolved and the course will be amazing
