A course carved out from the canyons and bluffs amidst corn fields
A beauty to behold. So unusual for central Iowa.
The front nine is a classic links-style course with strategically placed bunkers. The back nine is more complex as the course descends into the canyon and then ascends each bluff requiring precision and placement in play.
You'll need more than one sleeve to succeed. Pause between the holes on the back nine and take in the view!
A Diamond in the Rough.....literally
Every once in awhile you find a course tucked in a rural town that totally exceeds expectations regarding small town golf. Honey Creek is one of those courses. Tucked in Boone, IA located about 40 minutes north of West Des Moines this course exhibits the traits and conditioning of some of it's more expensive cousins in Des Moines. Honey Creek has two very distinctive nines with the front nine playing more as a links, and the back as a tree lined routing. The layout leaves little to be desired with a variety of doglegs, strategic short par 4's, elevation changes, and reachable par 5's to keep you engaged despite the 100 degree temps we played in! As someone who has traveled to various parts of the country to knock a little white ball around I found myself struck by the similarities that little Honey Creek displayed to some high profile courses in North Carolina. Don't be fooled by the low green fee's and small time feel of the clubhouse. Honey Creek brings big time golf to small town Iowa.
