Great experience
Very little traffic on a holiday, great experience.
Richland GC
Overall we had an awesome day at Richland. Smooth fairways and greens. Sand traps need some work but the course is in great condition.
Great Tucked Away GC Gem.
Awesome first impression and track—really enjoyed the round and course. Driving range was closed for maintenance , it was
cart path only due to excessive rain consumption over the past days and most of the bunkers had standing water but overall I’d rate Richland as an Excellent+ high quality standard GC.
Nice Course
The course was really nice but it lacked ball washers and no water to drink on the course.
Great Condition...A Little TLC Needed Though
Richland is a 1 hour drive for me, but I always try to play it 2-3 times each year. Today was my first time since before the pandemic. The tee boxes and fairways were in great condition...nice lush green grass. The rough was brutal, but playable if you chose the correct club. The bunkers need some TLC, as many of them were filled with water, mud, and and/or hard packed. They also needed a little manicuring around the edges. The cart paths, as someone else mentioned, are definitely in need of some repair--at least just fill in the holes. The pace was a little over 4.5 hours and the published time is 4 hours or less. We had a foursome in front of us playing from the tips and they dinked their drives off the tees about 150 yards out. Clearly, they were not as skilled as they thought and needed to move to more appropriate tees. On #13, all four of them were off in the right-hand high grass searching for balls...the hole in front of them was open and we were stacking up behind them. They needed to pay more attention to what they were causing on the course than catering to their egos. In any event, the course was in great condition, playable, and it was an enjoyable round. (except for the foursome in front of us),
Gem of a course
I played this course with my wife for the first time last week and really enjoyed it. Course was in great shape although the cart paths are in need of some repair. I liked it so much, I went back on Saturday. Saturday was of course more crowded but the course played well and we had fun. The cart we had on Tuesday was sluggish, but solid. The cart we had on Saturday was fast, but very loose and rattled a lot. It was jarring to ride in, but I was there to golf, not ride in a cart race so it didn’t bother me, but my wife was less thrilled. I am a fan of the course, the layout and the fact that it is relatively close to where we live.
Great weather; slow start
Tee time was set for 12:36. Got to the course at 11:50. Didn’t tee off until 1:21!! The course didn’t have enough golf carts and so there was a big delay. I don’t understand how they didn’t have enough golf carts. Golf has been booming since the pandemic started and most courses in this area and northern VA have made adjustments for the increased demand. The driving range also didn’t have any golf balls!! Nobody was on the range and so I literally walked out 100 yards into the driving range to pick 20 balls to get some kind of a warm up. I have never been to a golf club that ever ran out of golf balls...get someone on the range picker to get some balls! It was a weekend and there was no cart girl either...i didn’t even want a beer, i just wanted a Snickers to hold me over. Walked into the bar at 5:30 after I finished my round hoping to enjoy a pint on the patio but they were already shut down! Kinda bummed by that. The course was otherwise in good shape and was playing very firm and fast which I love. Greens were a bit slow compared to what they normally are. Hoping the management gets their act together. It’s a nice golf course but I won’t be back again if the cart situation doesn’t get fixed.
Double Charged
I got charged twice for my round after I booked on Golf Now. The golf carts go really slow. No cart girl on the course to purchase beer from.
So much potential
Course is in good condition (except the traps are terrible) and the greens are in great shape. No food or drink amenities and a lot of the potential of the property is really being wasted. Really needs some good management. That being said, if they would just rake and repair the traps, it is an excellent value for golf.
Seems like the end of days for Richland
Does not appear that new ownership is taking care of the staff or reinvesting in the course. Felt terrible for the 2 or 3 guys that actually showed up to work today.
This morning was “get your own cart day” down at the maintenance building because most of the staff didn’t show. It’s obvious as well that the usually well manicured course, is not being looked at with the same attention. Also disheartening to see a line of people waiting for carts to return when we were done with our round.
Hollow Creek (dba Richland now) used to be an amazing experience. Now it is on its last legs.
