Exceptional Conditions And A Great Layout
This time of year, golfers don’t expect prime course conditions but Maryland National is making me rethink what’s possible. I’ve always thought the conditions were good here but when compared to clubs costing just as much or more over a hundred miles south that haven’t had as much snow or freezing temps, it’s even more impressive!
The fairways are completely filled in and the greens are immaculate. Both are mowed close and smooth and really gives the whole course a luxurious feel to it. Bunkers are blemish free, though some tee boxes showed a lot of wear during my round. Still, putts roll silky smooth and true, you’ll feel like a pro when you roll in your first 17-footer.
I really love the layout here with so much variety on a property you wouldn’t expect a lot of variance from. Indeed, you can see quite a bit of the course from the elevated clubhouse and it all looks kind of the same there. But Arthur Hills did a great job with utilizing the land to the max and creating beautiful and thoughtful holes. My favorite is the 11th (pictured) because it’s one of the few blind shots to the green if you play it safe on your tee shot to the left side of the fairway. Somehow I always end up on the hillside and somehow still make par on the hole.
The facilities here are very good (food is good but pricey) and the staff is friendly and helpful as well. My only gripe is a common one in this area: if you get behind the wrong group, you’re in for a long round and so far it doesn’t look like they have a marshall on the course other than the text on the built-in GPS screens in the carts telling you if you are keeping up with the calculated pace.
For as good as the course conditions are, a greens fee under $70 is a good value and you can often find them for close to half that which makes Maryland National the only MD course worth the 2+ hour drive from my home in Virginia. Looking forward to being back up here again!

Took 5 hours to play. Two groups ahead of us were poor players playing from the Gold tees. It would have been beneficial to have a Marshall out there or digital tracking of the car TD.
Gorgeous course in great condition
First time playing here, and the course is amazing. Really intelligent course design which was a lot of fun, very scenic views, and really tough greens. Two putting on most holes felt like an achievement. Very stiff final three holes made it a bit of a bruising end to the round.
The course is in great shape.
Need to address the gear situation with their carts . Both our carts had issues trying to get them back in “forward” after being in reverse.
Need club stands on the driving range . Very nice area but no club stands .
Oct. 28 Maryland National
Had played this course early last spring and we decided to try in better weather. Course was crowded but we were paired up with a couple of young guys who were very nice. Course itself is in great condition with awesome fairways.
Great course Great veiws
Great course great views and a challenge for all skill levels. Definitely bring your A game
Wouldn't mind making this my home course
First time here, and our group had a great time. Course was in great shape, weather was perfect, pacing was right on, people were nice. Challenging topography and fast greens. Nice discount for seniors. Certainly could play this course a couple times a week.
Amazing value for the money
I’ll start my review by saying that I don’t go on weekends. I try my best to stick to weekday golf and the most I’ve paid during the week is think like 70$. With that said, this is easily a 100$+ course. It’s fantastic.
The range facilities while small are great for a pre round warm up especially since range balls are included. Each hole is a completely different experience which I love, and no two holes are alike. It’s challenging without being tiring so it still maintains the fun while allowing you to get a little outside your comfort zone and really think about your next shot.
I play here often, and each time I have a different experience with what I’m going to go and how I approach my game that day. I absolutely love this course. Easily one of the best if not the best in the area as far as public courses go.
Fun round
I don't play here as much as I would like, but always enjoy my round here. It's a very good layout! Winds & rain all morning, so the course was practically empty when we started out at noon. The course is always in fine shape, the greens are true and fast (even wet), and the staff is friendly. What's not to like? My only complaint this time was we had to go on-line to get the lower rate; guy on phone wouldn't offer it up to my partner who hosts a large outing there every year. Oh well.
