The driveable 16th on Rock is the only par-4 I've scored a 2 on but it's easy to score 6 here too. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/21/2017

This granite gateway to Boulder #3 is one of several nice touches that add a lot of character to this course. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/21/2017

It's a tree - in a sand trap! And it helps separate the Rock course green from the Boulder course green. Photo submitted by pitsbrgher on 05/06/2013
Excellent course and value
I have made a yearly trek to Rock Harbor since its opening. I have always told my friends that it is absolutely the most scenic course in Northern Virginia. With the opening of the new course and the revamping of some holes on the Rock course it continues to be the BEST. Kudos to Mr. Wampler and his staff.
You will not be disappointed, and the food at the grill is absolute to die for.
Great course and sure to get better
The course was in great shape. The views from serveral holes were spectacular. This is a very player friendly course - it's challenging but allows you to score and have fun. They are adding another 18 holes. I will definitely be back to play the new 18.
two different courses in the same 18 holes.
the original layout had huge flat greens but now there are 6 new holes in the mix that have six foot undulations in them. always in great shape though. the par three 13 can play 120yds to 200yds from the same tee depending on the pin location.
Good Test of your skills...
Very nice course with attention to details.Soon to be a complete 36 hole layout. Like the greens and tee boxes well maintained. A must play for the Fall Foliage and Panoramic View..Will play often and look for coupons , exceptional deals.
Lots of shaping shots due to the wind, I like to play in the wind allows you to use your imagination and your feel from past experiences.Play it from the correct set of tees for your handicap and enjoy the day with your friends.
Unique course, in a good way...
Having been built out of a quarry, Rock Harbor GC is by definition very different from most golf courses. As you look around from the first tee, the layout seems quite open and forgiving, but make no mistake, Rock Harbor will test your skills with every club in your bag.
The history of the course aside, Rock Harbor's layout is very unique, but not in a gimmicky way. Sure, there's a par-3 17th hole that's about 80 feet down and whose green is in the shape of a heart, but this course isn't about boring you or tricking you into a bad score.
Admittedly, I was a bit frustrated that many of the tee shots are to blind landing zones, but that only makes me want to go back and play again with a little more expertise.
I played during a heat wave and as there is almost no shade on the course, it was pretty empty. But even in 98-degree weather, the course was still enjoying to play. If I lived closer, I'd play it a lot more often. The course was in great condition, with pleasantly fast greens, smooth fairways, and consistent rough.
Need to play more than once, first time is challenging
The course is only difficult the first time you play it. It has a few blind shots to greens and fairways. You really have to put it in the right spot on some holes or you are screwed.
I enjoyed the the course and the layout. A couple of "goofy" holes, but still a nice track.
