coarse used to be so good
course run on shoestring budget, not doing what they should do to keep up course.greens never roll smooth, lots of bad spots on greens, crabgrass on greens, don`t maintain bunkers(except to mow grass in them) more interested in growing hemp and getting trail riders to eat and drink there.
Hidden gem
This place is definitely not easy to get to, but worth the drive. Course was great, staff was very helpful and food was amazing.
Could be better
Twisted Gun has been a great destination for golf in this area for years. Recent new ownership has lost that in that they have made great improvements in the club house and has tried to make the course an attraction, but they have let the course itself suffer. Two years of temporary greens and torn up tees are just not what you want to see when you come to this course. The access to this curse is tough and that is no fault of the ownership, but the course conditions are there responsibility and they have failed. The way to draw people to this course is to make the golf course the crown jewel it used to be. It is nice to have a bar and restaurant, but you need a quality course first and foremost It could be a great destination once again if the course comes back to prime condition.
Very beautiful
Nice tight fairways and true greens. Was a little expensive but worth the price. Can't wait to play again.
They found gold in the coal fields!!
A couple of the guys in my foursome had played here before and spoke highly of this course. We decided to take advantage of the nice weather and the last Sunday before the time change. The drive from the Ashland, Ky area is about 2 and a half hours and not until you top the hill to the course do you realize that there is a beautiful golf course anywhere near you. Isolated? most definitely. Worth the drive? Oh yeah! We played the course from the tips and it plays long, but fair. Greens were pretty slick but you had a tendency to read more break than what was there. Make sure and bring your camera because the view are stunning, especially with the fall colors. Played 36 holes on the hot deal for about $40 a person. The driving range is excellent and the putting green was very nice. The short flag poles are different, and the bunkers played nice. Had a outstanding time and can't wait to return next year.
Twisted Gun
I would love for this course to host a small PGA Tour event. The course is in Great shape and it is very challenging!
Golf Course on a mountain
The course is in excellent condition. It has a great driving range. The pace of play is usually fast and is never overcrowded. It is a difficult drive but such a great place to play. Greens are fast, rough is tough but playable and fairways are beautiful. Holes 9 and 18 share a large green built around a small pond.
This course is a hidden gem in the coal Feilds of WV
You can't beat this course for the money. It's a real ball striker's course very challenging to any level of experience. A beautiful links style course on top of the beautiful mountains of southern WV.
The Gun
Course was in great Condition, Played a Saturday Morning with 10:00 Tee Time Pace was great no hold ups all day, Only fault i have to this course is just no good access to get there if they ever build a road into this place it will be one of the top courses to play in southern WV or Eastern KY still a great day overall will play again soon
The Gun
I play here a lot and they have it looking amazing! The greens were great, the fairways was great and the rough was punishing! Great Course
Links golf in the mountains
Absolutely beautiful course. A little tough to get to, but once you're there and done, you'll make sure to go back.
Great value for price if booked thru GolfNow
Bunkers are in terrible shape, otherwise 5 stars...location is difficult to get to...
Great place to play
I love playing at Twisted Gun because it gives me a taste of links style golf. In WV most fairways are lined with trees, and this course has no trees. It is a reclaimed strip mine and is flat and beautiful. I give it a total of 5 total stars even though they had a few burnt places in the fairways. The reason is because we have had a tough winter and a hard summer so far. Overall they never affected my play so I still gave it 5 stars. Long drive there but well worth the drive
Great views, great course
Played on a Saturday morning, no wait at any tee box. Pace was great though out round. Course has a few problems in the fairways with dead grass but otherwise it is in great condition. Greens are firm and true. Cannot beat this course for the price.
The Gun
Had a wonderful view. The course was great dry greens were like ICE. Love the course.
