Stay out of the Tall Grass
This course was your average municipal style course. Very open with no OB. Little water but nothing to worry about. The fairways played nice however, the greens were pretty awful, unless you like putting on soft foam. Also, if you do find your self missing the fairway, be prepared to lose your ball in plain site. The rough is tall and lush. VERY easy to misplace. I had to take two drops after watching where my ball went. I did however, have a great time. Good day at your average course is what you can expect.
Bear Creek is getting better
I've played this local course dozens of times, and I can honestly say it's been getting better lately. While the cart paths are still atrocious & the course rangers are useless, the fairways, greens, & rough are all looking much better this year. The pace of play is pretty rough since they won't let folks start on 10, but I guess that's something to be expected with a small course like this. As for the playing conditions, I no longer feel like I'm hitting off concrete while on the tee, and the fairways are really green and soft. The greens have also seen a big improvement YOY, so I'm excited to see this course keep getting better.
Presidents is good course, but not worth $40.
Straight forward layout with only a few trees and no doglegs. Fairways and greens in good shape......greens a little long, but gave lower rating mainly due to rough that desperately needed to be mowed. Balls hit just off fairway were impossible to find and occasionally lost. Not a difficult course, even from the back tees, but an unfair rough made it less fun. Not worth $40 green fees. Look for reduced rates on GolfNow.
Cow Patch
Not feeling "welcomed" or "helped" from staffs. Greens uses completely different grass than practice green. Fairway feels like a well used soccer field. A different experience than what I remembered from before.
Course still the same.
Staff not friendly at all. Can't bring a coooler on course but there's no cart driving around selling drinks.
Bear creek
Wet conditions made for slow play other wise the course was fine
Bear Creek President's Course
This course is a great course for the typical weekend golfer. The course is forgiving, providing you can find your ball in the long grass that makes up the rough. Very few trees to interfere w/wayward shots, etc.
My primary complaint with my experience at Bear Creek had to do w/the greens... it was more like putting on carpet than grass. The greens seemed to be neglected. Long grass made for very firm strokes that never made it to the cup. Many of the cups had rounded and rough edges as if they had not been moved for over 2 weeks.
Overall, decent course. If you're looking for more of a challenge i'd suggest playing elsewhere.
Nice course
Love playing bear Creek the president and challenger very nice n forgiving
begginer course
great course to build confidence. hard to lose ball on this course. enjoyed cheaper price through golfnow website.
Bear Creek Presidents
The course was in good shape, holding up well for all the rain Houston has had recently. The course staff is nice and friendly.
bad experience
Had rained quite a bit during the week, the course was a swamp when we played on Sunday. I left balls on the fairway because I didn't want to walk through the 4" of water to play them. They really should have let the course dry out for another day or two before opening up. Also had trouble with tee time, was scheduled for 1:50, they couldn't get us out until 2:30. Overall course is very open... makes it feel a bit cheap and cramped (stand on the tee box and you can see 5 other fairways adjacent to the one your playing). The price is good, but I doubt I'll be back...
Good-If you want basic
Very straight forward course. No real danger unless you go way right or left towards trees..
Greens had lots of secondary grass as well that caused a few of my rolls to bump and miss - trust me not my putting there haha
Otherwise a good pull out the driver and test your short irons into greens course
Rained out
Course rained out after 6. No refunds slowed book through golf now. No rain check either
Over priced and over crowded for poor condition
We decided to play here because it was central to my group. It was in horrible condition for the price. Greens were horrible. Putts didn't roll, they bounced. Tee boxes were rarely level and seemed like you were hitting off the rough. Fairways had lots of pachy bare spots and the course was way overcrowded. Took over 4 hours to complete a round and there was a wait to shoot about 90% of shots and once the lawnmower ran over one of my balls.
I will not be back in the future.
Presidents is just no fun
Presidents is just a pretty straight forward course with absolutely no sand and very little water that never comes into play, the greens were a little rough as well, wouldnt pay more than 25$
Garbage Greens
Shag carpets are better than some of the greens on this track. We played on a Monday morning and I counted two 5-balls ahead of my group. I had to skip 3 holes so I could finish on time. Marshal was seen but he didn't seem to care about the pace. Disappointing.
"never again".
30 yrs ago this was one of the best courses in the Houston area. Arnold Palmer should be embarrassed to have his name associated with this course today. Every sand trap has been eliminated, the fairways are spotty, teeing grounds are in horrible condition and the greens are , at best, sad. I will not be back and I will be sure to let my friends know not to play this course.
Unprofessional Staff and Poor Play Conditions
After we booked the tee time, we were not notified until we arrived that the front nine was closed due to poor conditions (excessive rain the previous days) and we would have to play the back nine twice. After playing the back nine, we requested a rain check to play the front nine at a different time. The course conditions were still less than ideal, and due to rerouting groups to the back nine twice, the course was crowded. The course manager refused our request stating that rain checks would only be issued if it was raining (this even though the front nine was completely closed due to rain). We were disappointed not only by the course conditions, but by the course management's unprofessionalism in responding to our request for a rain check. We will not be playing there again.
Don't waste your time or money
This is the worst course I've ever played. I paid a DISCOUNTED rate of $50, but the course plays like a $20 muni. The fairways have huge dead and/or barren areas. Twice in my round, I had two drives end up in the fairway only to find my lie on hard dirt. Even worse was the greens. They were very patchy, and the ball bounced all the way to the hole. I hate to say it, but I really can't find anything positive to say about this course.
