About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2017.
Derrell Witt had a hand in many of Carlton Gipson's successes, including Houston-area tracks like Greatwood, and the impressive renovations at BraeBurn Country Club. Pine Crest was his first solo project, and he was able to use his background in landscape architecture to move over 250,000 cubic feet of dirt tocreate 13 lakes that form the basis of this semi-private course. The water helps the crew keep it in lush condition compared to other courses in the area.
The best hole is the last one, playing 571 yards into a narrow, tree-lined fairway with an approach over water to the green.

If you book through GolfNow, be sure to check bring your receipt. I was charged an extra $10 at the golf course from what GolfNow said I owed.
First & Last
We found out that this place is closing on April 30, so our round was the first & last time we'd play here. To be honest with you though, I'm ok with that, because the place was a dump. I get that the owners let it go since there's nothing left to do, but it was still pretty awful. Not only was the staff rude, but nobody told us there was a tournament playing that day and we were being thrown in the middle of it until we were headed to the tee! The tee boxes were like concrete, greens were in horrible shape, and fairways were a mess. Definitely NOT worth the $40 we paid.
Its an Ok Course!!
The course needs some maintenance. There are weeds everywhere, greens are being worked on, sand traps need sand. For the price and experience the course was OK but I'll think twice before going back.
Hot day
Tee time was 11:34 and didn't start till 11:45. The pace was pretty slow. The greens had a lot of weeds and the ball had a lot of bounce. The price you pay, it is worth the play and I would come back. If you're a beginner, bring your junk balls for the water, they are hidden.
Awful Greens
Course needs work. Greens on front nine are full of crabgrass. Bumpy big time. Greens on back nine were not as bad. Sand traps are bad - hardly any sand & lots of rocks. Tee boxes & fairways are in good shape. Decent course for a beginner.
Value course during the week
For $20-25 during the week the course isn't a bad play. Early spring the majority of the greens are bare and bumpy, but even at its peak condition the course rarely seems to have good greens. Tee boxes are actually pretty good, fairways are only fair but it's a good course to play during the week, when play is usually quick. I'm not sure I'd spend the $40 to play on the weekend here but there good value otherwise.
Not worth your time or money
We played this course because of the proximity of where we were going to be for the weekend. None of us live in the area and thought it would be worth a shot. The clubhouse is old and worn out (not that big of a deal), but the course was in bad shape. The tee boxes looked as if they hadn't been mowed in a week, the greens weren't any better. The greens had dirt patches and some kind of grass growing on them causing them to be extremely bumpy. Pace of play wasn't an issue due to the fact there was hardly anyone on the course.
Course Needs Work
This would be a nice course.
If, money was put into it.
It needs work!! The greens are in very poor condition.
Doubt if I'll play the course, again!
Worth the money.
Houston golf is somewhat expensive. Pinecrest is worth the cost as long as your just playing your practice game, but if your trying to set a personal best round or playing for money then this is probably not the place to go. I will continue to include this course in my weekly rotation because I like it.
pincrest review
course is way over due for maintenance overseeding trimming i think the owner has ran out of money the layout is fine the course needs love to bring it back ,, for 20 bucks its nice to play but the greens are bumpy and youre ball wont roll straight
Unreasonable staff
Warning they staff will not let you walk, even on a day when the course was empty and you promised to finish your round in under four hours. I even offered to pay for a cart and not use it. Just shows a general inflexibility. We likely will not play this course again with this in mind since there are so many other options in Houston.
PINE CREST RIP OFF
BY FAR THE WORST COURSE I'VE EVER PLAYED. THEY SHOULD DONATE THE LAND TO THE HEB DISTRIBUTION CENTER ACROSS CLAY ROAD, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE BETTER USE OF THE LAND. VERY FEW PEOPLE ON THE COURSE. I ALWAYS ARRIVE EARLY, USUALLY 1 HOUR BEFORE THE POSTED TEE TIME. I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT GET A CART KEY UNTIL CLOSER TO MY TEE TIME AFTER BUYING BUCKET OF PRACTICE BALLS. ON THE COURSE, THE TEE BOXES WERE BY FAR THE BEST PART OF THE COURSE. UNFORNUNANTLY SOMEONE MUST HAVE STOLEN ALL THE LAWN MOWERS, THE FAIRWAYS HAVENT BEEN MOWED RECENTLY. AREAS AROUND THE PONDS AND SAND TRAPS HAVE'NT SEEN AN WEED EATER IN A WHILE, BUT APPARENTLY THEY WERE'NT NEEDED BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT SAND IN THE BUNKERS, ONLY HARD PACKED MUD. AFTER TRAVERSING THE FARM LAND, ONCE I FINALLY FOUND THE GREENS, TO MY DISMAY (OR NOT) THE GREENS WERE THE WORST I'VE EVER SEEN, I DIDN'T KNOW IF THE WINTER GRASS WAS STILL TRYING TO COME IN OR LEAVE. BUT IT DIDNT MATTER, THE GREENS WERE MORE BUMPY THAN A MINE FIELD ON A MILITARY BOMB RANGE. THE COURSE HAS BEENN FROM MINE AND SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM ANY GOLFERS IDEA OF A NICE LEISURE ROUND OF GOLF. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY
This course has a great layout
For the money this is a fun course and great value. The only thing bad about this course is the greens, they are in terrible shape but I can't complain b/c the cost is so low! Overall it is a great value!
What a shame
Pinecrest is on the way out im afraid. The course has really been rundown in past few years. Tbox , sand traps and greens are horrible. We have seen survey stakes over the whole course so i suspect it will soon be sold and developed into a residential area. Too bad, it used to be a really nice course. What a shame.
Layout is good like it.
I hope green improve over the course of the spring and summer.
Nice Outing, but......
This course has not been maintained very well. It is a good layout, the pace of play was good, but self managed.
The greens were really poor and the course signage was falling down and faded.
I have played this course for a number of years and it has gone down hill. Too bad, it is a good course layout!
Good golf course bur horrible pace
I like this golf course which has a good amount of par 5 and 4 however, it is the 2nd time that we are nor able to finish because of nightfall. The pace is too slow, many beginners who spend too lonh looking after their balls. It took us 4h30 to complete 15holes and we had to wait behind 2 or 3 groups of players at each hole. The management needs to think about a way to improve this.

Not in good shape
I have played here several times over the years but it just keeps getting worse. It was only $21 for a round but I am not sure it is even worth that. Fairways were ok but greens were just dirt with patches of grass. Bunkers were packed sand that you could not rake. Course layout is pretty good with lots of water but it needs a lot of attention.

The fairways was good but there was no Fred's on the greens. Made them real fast
Hi "u000006472826" Thanks for the honest review. We are sorry that you thought the greens were to fast to play on. This can challenge your putting skills. We hope that you will give us another try in the near future.
Hi "JeffPf" We appreciate your honest review. We are constantly trying to improve the overall course conditions. We appreciate your patience during this time.
