Great Course to Walk
For walkers it is great. Green to Tee Box with the exception from 7 to 8. You actually have to cross a street. No back tracking on this course. Put then go tee off.
I have finished this course walking in under 3 hours.
Confidence builder
Not too many hazards on this course as far as water goes. A few holes had water, but not really in play for most players. I think this course is great for the beginner. I will say I eventually caught up to a player who might have been fairly new to the game and was all over the fair way and spent a little to much time looking for the ball either on the left or right.
My advice to everyone is if someone is a quick player and you notice them waiting on every shot...let them play through. It will be much more enjoyable for everyone involved.
I will be back for sure.
Still the same old course
Walkers slow pace down because of distance between holes. No concesssion stand and something other than candy bar would be nice.
Always like this course
Tee box-Average
Fairway- Good
Greens-Excellent
Sand traps-Excellent
I always enjoy playing this course.
Value for money
Friendly staff, well managed and course in great condition and value for money
Love golf
Fairways on the course need some work, but the greens were excellent. Fast and gave you a good read!!
Features
Wonderful course with a good set up from from the first tee box to the last green a little more maintainance Is needed.
Golf and Tee Schedule fiasco
I've played Sharpstown a few times and enjoyed it each time, but the last visit was an absolute mess. When I first checked in at the Pro Shop, the guy told me they were out of golf carts so I would just have to wait for one. I'm not exactly sure how this happens in the first place, but they didn't make any attempt to actually hustle to get more golf carts. I had to wait at the first tee box 25 minutes past my tee time trying to get a cart. Because as soon as one came available you had to jump on it. It didn't matter when you tee'd off. So somebody who was teeing off in an hour would grab one while you're trying to get one to tee of RIGHT NOW. On top of that, the Marshal had no idea who was actually supposed to tee off at the right times. He was working off a list that was put together the day before. If you happened to book it online the day of, well, you're just out of luck! You had to literally force him to let you play by showing a receipt and insisting you bought a round at the given time. Then he would reluctantly let you tee off.
Also, I played right behind a family of 3 who I'm pretty sure have never played before. I'm not that picky on people being slow, but if every shot goes 15-20 yds, you might need to spend a little time at the range before coming out. The marshals made no attempt to speed up their rate of play, and it REALLY slowed things down (the front nine took 3 HOURS).
Favorite course
I love playing sharpstown, the people you meet there are awesome, funny and helpful to my game.
The course is in pretty good shape, but there was absolutely no reason to book a tee time in advance. They let anyone and everyone play. In the time it took me to pay and get a drink from the vending machine, I saw three different groups walk up and pay for a round, without a tee time. This caused a huge backlog in the number of people playing at a time. We had 2 groups in front of us and 2 groups behind us (all of us lined up at the 1st tee box around the same time). I would be happy to play at a course like this in general, but not if it takes me 5-5.5 hours to play a course that should otherwise take 4-4.5 max.
Greens were nice
Was disappointed in the dried out fairways (ie. no grass), areas that had not been mowed, and overall poor condition of the course. The greens were rolling really well, and were quick, but otherwise I would not recommend the course and will not be returning. Luckily I got paired up with some nice gentlemen that made the round worthwhile.
Twosome 3/20/17
Paired with a fellow player behind a foursome playing extremely slow. Too much downtime between strokes. Course was in good shape. The greens are very well maintained and run true. Generous fairways and landing areas. No water hazards to speak of. Mature trees come into play on errant tee shots. Course must have been a gem in it's heyday. Still a fun track and a great value. Will definitely return.
Nice inexpensive track
I like this course. Not bad for a municipal public course. There are lots of trees but the fairways are generally open and wide so you'll usually have a shot without having to deal with lost balls and unplayable lies. The greens are very good, actually my favorite thing about this course. It's a par 70 so I enjoy shooting a little lower score. I think it builds confidence to finish with 84 instead of 86.
It was wet because it rained a few days prior and the course doesnt drain water well. Other than that, the greens were pretty good and the pace of play was great this time around. Usually its pretty slow. Overall, it was a great round for the amount that i paid.
Good course to work on your game.
Wide open fairways and no bunkers in play if you are slightly inaccurate off the tee. The greens were recently aerated and were bumpy. If you have a tee time and are offered 5$ off for a 10 minute wait to get super twilight, I would keep the original time. Play was slow on a Friday so with super twilight, I ended up finishing during nautical twilight at about 630 pm. What would normally be 3 hours ended up slightly longer than 4. Did meet some nice folks to play along. I'll be back.
