The Tattersall Youth Development Center at The First Tee Chesterfield Golf Course
About
The Tattersall Youth Development Center at The First Tee Chesterfield Golf Course, as well as the First Tee of Richmond, was established to provide educational golf programs for junior players. This comprehensive learning facility includes an 18-hole golf course, a three-hole practice loop, a large grass practice tee, a putting green, and a short-game practice area. There's also a staff of qualified coaches and golf instructors that can help you improve your score no matter what your weakness is. As a learning course, it might not be what low handicappers are looking for if they want a challenge, but it's a perfect place for beginners and high handicappers to get some practice with the game. The layout is very forgiving with wide-open fairways that offer plenty of room. The greens are fast and sometimes framed with bunkers. There are several par-3 holes that will give you a chance to work on your short game.

This is a great course for players that are new to the game. The lay out is geared more towards younger players with a lot of short holes. It plays a lot like an executive course.
$50 for a tee time at this course is ridiculous
This course is a short “developmental” course and not by any means a real challenge however $50 for a tee time is ridiculous here. The course is not in great shape and I’ve played way better courses for almost half the price. I’ve lost count how many pitch marks were not repaired, cart paths are horrible - huge bumps, cracks…etc.
There’s no grill, no cart girl, and pace of play was really slow as there are a lot of hackers that play here that don’t have great golf etiquette and there’s no Marshall to enforce this.
Won’t play here again unless it’s a $28 “Hot Deal” because that’s all that this course is worth. Play at The Highlands or Brickshire.
Struggles
The course was in decent shape the dormant tee boxes were very messy and almost bare ground. The for most part seemed that they didn't want to be bothered with customers problems or concerns . They were publicly complaining about customers disturbing them infront of other patrons in the club house and didn't care who was listening
Such a scam
This course used to be a fun place to play and get some practice in. This is a children’s course that is 4600 yards from the tips and it’ll take you 5 hours to play costing you 50 bucks at that which is criminal. No cart girl, refreshments or food. Back when it was 25 -30 bucks to play it was ok but for 50 bucks hitting out of dirt no thank you . Save your money there are way better courses for the money.
Awesome course
This day was a great day to get out and golf. I was impressed that the course was well maintained. The pace of play was great. I noticed a lot of golfers were out so I knew this was a great course to play at. I will be back for sure.
Short course
Short course, great for beginners or anyone wanting to work on their short game
Great course for the money.
Have played here a couple of times and always enjoyed the layout and conditions. Pace has been slow and no options other than a small bucket are minor annoyance. Best hot dogs around and friendly staff. Would def recommend and looking forward to coming back.
Great place to go in a pinch.
Finished the front in an hour. Hour and a half for the back. Playing as a single behind another single. Caught a slower group on 17 and paired up with the other single. Finished up with a new friend. Great Hot Deal!
Okay course for $35 and under
I’ve played here many times — I often play here as a “warm up” before a weekend round with my group. The course itself is in pretty good shape if you’re paying $25-30 via a hot deal on golf now. I don’t think playing this course is worth their regular rate of $45. I could play way better courses for that price.
Pace can be an issue here depending on the day as there could be quite a lot of seniors or hackers out there as it is a “developmental” course however I’ve never had any issues with groups letting me play through.
There is a starter but only on weekends so if you like to go out as a single and just want to work on your game without the stress about getting paired up, then this course is for you.
Won’t be here long
Good course for me to start playing again. The price is ok but without deals way to expensive for a poor course. But for a cheap price a decent day out
Hidden gem
With all the opportunities for great golf in the Richmond area I overlooked this course for years. What a mistake on my part! Course is laid out well, is in phenomenal condition and plays quickly. Holes are predominantly par 3’s and 4’s with a few good 5’s worked in. Overall a phenomenal course for a leisurely round with great value for money.

Fairways and greens were in great condition. Pace of play was good. Great day for golfing, even though it was warm.
Good for beginners
Course was good just fairways are hard, ground was hard in spots when hitting irons into the greens.
