About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in April 2018.
Located just southeast of downtown Houston, Glenbrook Golf Course tumbles across dramatically rolling terrain. The course traverses a bayou, which adds scenery but makes it a tough layout to walk since you often have to cross long bridges. There are many risk-reward opportunities where the more accurate you are, the greater the reward. Stands of mature trees line the fairways at Glenbrook and there are also strategically placed bunkers along the greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes. One of the most memorable water holes is the par-5 ninth, which demands a tough 180-yard carry over a wide creek that sits just in front of the green. Even with a good tee shot down the long fairway, you'll still have to lay up to make it onto the green.

Excellent course, even better staff!
Great course with some challenging greens. Pretty views and very friendly staff make for a wonderful time of Golf. If you haven’t been out there yet definitely give it a shot!
Great municipal golf course!
This course was a pleasant surprise. It was very nice and well laid out and play crossing back-and-forth over the bayou made it very relaxing
Houston classic
I have played Glenbrook for years and hope to return for many more. It hasn't changed much over the years, but it doesn't need to, it just needs a shot in arm to kinda spruce things up. It is a muni after all, but challenging and fun navigating back and forth across the bayou. The greens had just been sanded and seeded, so speed was a bit hard to judge, but it's that time of year and I was glad to see the upkeep.
If you don't mind hitting off rock hard dirt, this course might have appeal. I found myself wishing that my lie was in the rough just to have some grass to hit from. The positive side is the ball will run. (super drives). I have heard that the city, which allocates funds, is putting the money elsewhere.
Keeps challenging
Crossing the bayous is always a mindset thing and challenging; doglegs too. Relax a bit on the other holes afterwards.. Fairways were very firm but greens nice.
Last minute round
Met a buddy here last minute. Course was in ok shape. The greens were like concrete and the layout was very confusing. A pretty difficult course if you have never played it before. Lots of hidden hazards.
The old glenbrook returns
Pace of play 2 hours for 4 holes course allowed groups of 5 to go off so play was at a standstill and they didn’t warn anyone before teeing off
Be accurate
Course is somewhat "technical" but fun. Holes looks short on the card but with dog legs, "valleys" and water crossings it will keep you wanting to be straight and accurate. Greens are in good shape for Houston this time of year and make putting interesting with multiple breaks to the pins.
Trees on most fairways but really not in play. Course was pretty wet in places with mud tracks from people running carts through the mud. Lots of grass cuttings on the fairways and obvious that many players don't have the courtesy to repair fairway divots and ball marks on the greens. Can't hold players actions against the course but does make it less playable.
Did see course marshals and played 18 holes on a Saturday afternoon in under 4 hours very easily.
Will play there again good value for the $ and a city of Houston course.
The course was a mess but it was still in better shape than I though it would be in due to the flooding caused by Harvey. Apart from the issues caused by the heavy rain and bayou coming out of its banks, the course was in decent shape. The fairways were good and the greens are still coming back from being aerated not to long ago. The bunkers were is bad shape and there were several huge trees that were knocked over as a result of the storm. There were crews out cutting the trees and cleaning up the debris.
The worst part was getting stuck behind a foursome who played extremely slow. No marshal in sight to help speed things up.
Nice bang for your buck
Really surprised with this course for the money, I payed 16$ on the golf now app for 18 with a cart, the layout of the course is awesome especially the back nine! I was a little disappointed in the greens but they all weren't bad, the staff in the club house is very friendly! Also the food isn't bad either! I would definitely recommend this course! I will be back more often
Good Course for the Money
I was able to play this course with a great deal from GolfNow. The course pace was extrememly fast, but perhaps that is because I teed off at 1:30PM on a Sunday. I was able to finish 18 holes in 2 hours. The fairway grass wasn't too bad, especially for Texas. The staff was very friendly and provided good service. For the bad things: The tee off boxes had the most rock-hard ground I've ever seen. I broke tees trying to put them into the ground. The green qualityis meh with some holes worse than others. There were also some ok greens. Holes 12, 13 and 14 are very confusing, but mostly it's just hole 12. I had no clue where i was actually supposed to hit or drive the cart haha. After playing once, it no longer becomes a problem.
I would golf here again.
Open layout, lots of water on the back 9
The front 9 was fairly easy, very open layout with well kept rough. The back 9 has a lot of long water carries offer the bayou. Overall it was a fun course.
Good course, fun.
This is what I would consider your average muni. It is nice, greens are good and the price is fair. People there are cordial and I have made some really great friends on the course. The tee boxes are a bit too firm and can be a struggle to put your tees in the ground. There are a couple really neat holes there I like to play. Very enjoyable course.
Staff is great
They gave us a heads up on the greens just recently being aerated (Staff was awesome.) Outside of the greens being pretty slow and being currently worked on, a solid golfing experience.
Long ball
The Bayou presents the biggest challenges so your driver, woods & long irons will need to be on point. I did not like the greens very much because they were much to slow and didn't roll true. I think once you play it a few times it could grow on you.
Locals need golf Etiquette, Holding up a single player for 12 holes. no Marshals
Locals need gold etiquette, on letting a faster player, play thru. when your a group of 3 and a single player is behind you and in front of you there are several holes with no one playing on them. let the single thru.
Course is a challenge, given its location Small Greens a tight Fairways. Well worth the experience, medium and High hanidi cap golf would enjoy. Even from the Back tee's.
Hope this course stays open.
