About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in April 2018.
Located just southeast of downtown Houston, Glenbrook Golf Course tumbles across dramatically rolling terrain. The course traverses a bayou, which adds scenery but makes it a tough layout to walk since you often have to cross long bridges. There are many risk-reward opportunities where the more accurate you are, the greater the reward. Stands of mature trees line the fairways at Glenbrook and there are also strategically placed bunkers along the greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes. One of the most memorable water holes is the par-5 ninth, which demands a tough 180-yard carry over a wide creek that sits just in front of the green. Even with a good tee shot down the long fairway, you'll still have to lay up to make it onto the green.

Great course Great Price
Thanks a lot, course in great shape (much much better than last year), the team make a nice effort to bring the course back to great shape !excellent value for the money and staff very friendly. I will come again for sure !
Great Place to play
This is a great older course in Houston. I t has recently been taken over by the city and the new staff have done a great job at bring this back from the dead. All the staff are courteous and helpful. It would be a shame to to lose this place to a Botanical Garden that few would use.
This course has some Good Feaures
I use to play this Golf Course a lot with the old staff, and the course was in a rough shape. late 2015 the course shut down for a couple of months, The new staff running the course is doing a great job. They remodel the Club House, and clean up the golf course.
Great Value Interesting Course
I read some bad reviews on the course and apparently I started playing here after they did some renovations to the course. Looks great, plays great and I love hitting over the bayou. Staff was very friendly and chill. Only thing I didn't like is that there is no driving range to warm up on, but there is a chipping and putting area.
Good experience
Did not know what to expect given earlier reviews but were pleasantly surprised. The crew was friendly. It has enough variety to make it fun. The greens were nice and so were the carts. Based on previous reviews looks like improvements are definitely being made. Will go back again as it is a good value.
Great course
Very good course and it was really maintained well! I would definitely recommend this course for a friend.
New and improved
Houston has turned this course around. It's heading to be one of the best and most challenging courses again. If you haven't been since its reopened I highly recommend giving it another shot. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the food is good, and the greens are way better than when Art was running it. If you want a challenge and a good time you must give this classic course another try!
really nice layout
course was in bad shape a few months ago now under new management you can see the difference still need a little work but got to give them a chance
Hey deteriorating friend
I've played this golf course for about 20 years. Unfortunately for the community and for golfers that frequent this course is in the worst conditions possible . For four years it's been a tradition of my family for me and my boys to go out and play this course . The fairways were atrocious the greens were so unmanaged You would've been better served playing the back of some pastor in the country . While playing in this course two of my golf carts ran out of electricity . I will never play this golf course again in less the city starts funding it I doubt anyone else will either .
Glen Brook doesn't drain well, should've stayed home
So, we contacted the course prior to going out and the gentleman advised that it rained a little, but the course was in good shape. The course had an extreme amount of water, which even made water hazards where there shouldn't have been any. The facilities are run down and in need of repair or upgrades, the cart battery went dead, but he course attendant did manage to rectify that situation. Overall just a bad experience, we would've much rather just stayed home than attempt to recoup our cost by playing, ugh!
Great features, very poor condition
I would not recommend this course to my worst enemy right now. It was a good golf course, but I should have taken my co-workers advice 3 weeks ago, the course is terrible!. And it was terrible. Greens had little grass and was matted down, not enough grass to mow. Fringe on greens was not mowed. Tee boxes were not mowed, I seen 3 ball washers, and no trash cans at tee boxes. My 1st golf cart I had to return after my drive on hole #2 because the clunking noise I was hearing was all the lug-nuts on back tire were loose. The 2nd cart I got died on fairway of hole #4!! What a day!! I can now honestly say there is a such a thing as "a bad day of golf", when I never thought a day of golf could ever be bad??? And that was!!
City of Houston is letting the course decay
I use to play at this course often. The City of Houston is wanting to close the course and make it into a botanical garden. Since they are not taking care of the course the amount of people playing the course will quickly dwindle.
Cart window was covered with blue paint. No food at the clubhouse, no cups at the water dispensers on the course, no ice at the clubhouse but they had drink cups and cold drinks in the cooler. Grass cutting has become grass butchering in some areas. You could see that they may cut a new pin placement every month at best. Very little watering on the fairways or tee boxes as the ground had lots of cracks and the dirt was very hard. No sand in the bunkers just weeds with lots of rakes.. very poor markings to find the next hole
Wow!!! The course actually got worse.
I played this course in August of 2014 for the 1st time and it was a very bad experience. However, the expression..."A bad day of golf beats a good day at work" was still applicable. However, my visit this time was so bad that I should have stayed at work. Last year I used a GolfNow coupon for $10, but this year the price was $13. They should have paid me to play this horrible course. How could a muni course get this bad? They had a sign in the restaurant area that said they were having a save the Glenbrook tournament. I don't know how they could expect anyone to come and play in it with a course in that terrible of a condition. It is pretty obvious that either the city or the parent management company are not investing any money back into the course. On most holes the grass on the fairways is as thick as rough so good luck finding your ball in the fairway and don't even bother looking if you hit it anywhere else even if it just a few inches off the fairway. Also, I can't figure out for the life of me why there is not any sand in any of the bunkers. Sand is cheap and even free in some places in Houston and the city has the trucks. Last year there were a lot of people playing this course when I was there. However, this year I saw only two other two-somes the entire time I was on the course and I think one of them gave up and left at the turn. Given the condition of this course and the location I would be very surprised if they are still in business a year from now.
Poor experience, manager is rude... stay away and save your money
I don't really post reviews on yelp but I had to share the experience
we had on this golf course. Glenbrook is the worst golf course I ever
played on. The golf course is in bad shape but the problem also comes
from the manager who is extremely rude and patronizing. It definitely
does not worth the $30+ you are gonna spend on it per person, you
should be paid to play on this course.
It's sad because the course has a huge potential and could be very fun
to play on.
Starting with the golf course:
- the grass was not cut properly, not even on the fairway...We spent
most of our time to look for our balls instead of actually playing
- the rocks showing the various departures (white,red,blue,etc...) are
for the most inexistent, so you have to determine by yourself where is
the shooting area...
- the car path was sometimes not practicable due to fallen trees and
branches (not fallen recently...)
- none of the bunkers are playable. They are ALL full of rocks and you
won't find sand in any of those.
The human experience with the manager was also really bad
- We booked our Tee time through golf 18 however when we arrived we
had to discuss the price with the manager. It was pretty obvious that
he was not happy with the discount we had. Impossible to get a
receipt...
- the manager informed us that outside food and drinks are forbidden
on the course and also that no water was available on the course. I
was not happy but bought a bottle of water just in case. I was pretty
surprised to find full water tanks throughout the course...it felt
like we were forced to buy...
- after the 9 first holes, due to the bad shape of the golf course, we
decided to stop playing and to get reimbursed. The manager told us it
was not possible and that the height of the grass and the condition of
the bunker was due to the heavy rain 3 days before. Im not sure sand
disappears because of the rain or that grass grows 10 inches in 3 days...
- finally the manager told us that we were free to leave, turned his
back on us while we were speaking and left...
Bet you it was nice in 1970
Older course. Very low maintenance. Grass had not been cut in a long time. Would not recommend to a regular golfer.
No irrigation and no maintenance
Good muni gone bad. The city must be ready to shut down this course. Looks like the only thing they are doing is watering the greens and mowing the tee boxes and greens, but not daily. Traps are full of weeds. Grass on fairways is getting sparse with no rain.
a great goat path
broken down carts. no water on the course tee boxes rock hard. greens super bumpy
Glenbrook
Course needs a lot of work. No AC in clubhouse. Warm bottled water and Gatorade for sale. Carts are old and in very poor condition. Bunkers have NO sand. They are rock and dirt. Greens are slow. Everything needs to be mowed. We lost 3 balls and found 4 others IN the middle of the fairway. No water available in coolers. It is an old course that has been neglected over the years...and it shows.
Glenbrook 7/17
Very poor conditions. Greens, fairways, roughs are not kept up. Facilities in poor condition.
