About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in April 2018.
Located just southeast of downtown Houston, Glenbrook Golf Course tumbles across dramatically rolling terrain. The course traverses a bayou, which adds scenery but makes it a tough layout to walk since you often have to cross long bridges. There are many risk-reward opportunities where the more accurate you are, the greater the reward. Stands of mature trees line the fairways at Glenbrook and there are also strategically placed bunkers along the greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes. One of the most memorable water holes is the par-5 ninth, which demands a tough 180-yard carry over a wide creek that sits just in front of the green. Even with a good tee shot down the long fairway, you'll still have to lay up to make it onto the green.

Worst Golf Course ever played with the worst Golf Carts
This is a sad excuse for a golf course that in the past has been very good. NOT one sand trap had a drop of sand and mostly was full of weeds and mud. They said they order sand but it had not come in yet only after asking during the turn. If I would of know the traps were in that shape i would not of played there. Rough so high and thick the round was spent waiting on fellow players looking for ball just feet outside fairways (ok, I had to look for my balls too). The golf carts were in very sad shape and I felt like it was a safety hazard. Several times during the round we had to wiggle wires to get cart restarted and brakes were metal on metal.
Has great potential
Needs some grounds care. City is letting the course run down. Could be a great place to play with a little work. Looks like city is thinking of closing the course and using the land for a botanical garden. Probably have cut the budget for the course care.
getting rougher
golfed here last year and was in much better condition. Still playable, but the sand traps were more like cement, greens were less that great, starting to be generally overgrown. Course has a number of holes that you have to hit over the bayou, which can be frustrating or fun depending on you skill level. Not in the greatest area. Price is it's saving grace...
Bad all around
Poorly maintained and way to expensive. The service is bad too. One time my golf cart died on like the 6th hole.
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY
Its been a while since we played this course and yesterday we decided to try it out just to find out its been getting worse by the day. Seems like they do minimal maintenance I've actually yet to see maintenance workers there. There was no water on a 90 degree day the guy doesn't give you the receipt. This course actually charges more then other munis in the area and its in worse condition then those. I will not return to this course again. Take your money elsewhere its a shame cause it has a good lay out but its in horrible condition.
Good greens for a muni.
I like Glenbrook. The greens rolled well for a municiple course. Hole 9 will keep some folks from playing here. It's a par five over the bayou. I hit two perfect shots and had a 3-wood into the green. Ladies, older folks and short-hitters have no chance whatsoever. It was, however, a great day of golf with good company. I was treated well by the staff and will return.
Great experience
I went around 8am there was no wait at all..the greens rolled really well. The only thing I would ask is for the fair ways to be a bit more well kept. All In all I would definitely play again.
This course has gone down hill
This used to be a great course at one time. The course condition is terrible. The fairways are bad, the carts are constantly breaking down. Very disappointed.
Awful
The course was not mowed at all. Lost multiple balls in the middle of the fairway! Left after the 8th hole. Will not be going back ever.
Worst Fairways in Houston
I won't be going back. Cart died in middle of our round, fairways were ruff, so different than when I was a kid. I definitely won't be going back there.
Expect the worst
I wish someone would buy this course and really fix it up. This course has such great potential. You can see for whatever reasons, the current management has really neglected the course. From poor customer service (clubhouse, etc..) to much needed but very simple improvements in course conditions, this course needs new management/ownership due to lack of attention. Unfortunate, because course can really be great. Need to change course attendant in the clubhouse ---he's very unprofessional and very unfriendly. I would not mind playing the course again through a golfnow purchase, but not if he's working.
Course layout is great, upkeep is subpar.
Glenbrook golf course has really let it's curb appeal and overall grass up keep go downhill tremendously. I of course have played here in the past with much better experiences, however this trip blew me away on just how horrible the fairways had become. I spent most of the front nine apologizing to my two co-workers about how bad the course looked. I have never seen a course with such ant ridden and weed infested fairways. If your ball lands in the ruff at all, good luck, the dollar weed patches are so big, your ball will just basically disappear to never be seen again. I played a 740am round, and I was so disappointed with hole 2, I didn'teven want to drive out on the fairways for fear of getting eaten alive by ants. Anyway, the reason I like Glenbrook is the amazing elevation changes throughout the course are challenging and fun to tackle. I hope that this golf course fixes this issue, because truthfully, for the price they are asking to play, i can find much better looking courses.
Worst Houston Municipal Course
This course has pretty much turned into a goat track. It was actually one of the more challenging Muni courses a couple years ago and still is.
Greens had weeds growing all over. Fairways had clover patches all over and there was no discernible difference from fairway to rough. Sand traps were hard caked mud. I had a few 5 foot puts that bounced all over the place.
Lots of mud patches and hard pan areas as well. Lots of golf carts looked like they died and were abandoned mid round as well. I would give it all 1 stars except there was an actual snack bar.
I wouldn't play here again unless it was a $10 golf now deal. I'm not sure how they are suckering people into the "Houston Golf League" for over $38 a round here.
Weeds everywhere
Layout is terrible, I felt like I was hitting across the river all the time. Hole 12 didn't make sense at all, you hitting across the river into the lake with almost no landing area.
This course had gone downhill.
The course needs lots of work, practice facility next to nothing. Only played because of golf now discount otherwise not worth to spend more than $20 to pay.
Poor service in clubhouse
I was charged more than tee times app quoted, and when I asked the person behind the register for my receipt (repeativly) I was denined and told I wouldn't need it. When I went to check my statement, I discovered I was overcharged.
Course played well, but the facility showed its age and lack maintenance.
Poorly Managed Course
Second time playing this course and found it in worse condition than previous time - faiways more clay than grass, bunkers messy and unraked, greens had many ball indentations where golfers dont repair pitch marks - buggy broke down after 16 holes and staff attitude was not the most welcoming
What A Shame
This was my 5th & last time playing Glenbrook. The staff is unpleasant, with no smiles, and acting as if any question asked of them is bothersome. I took my wife with me to hang out for a few hours, and low & behold the cart breaks down on hole #3. I call the clubhouse, 15 minutes later we have a cart delivered, and on hole #9 this one breaks down as well. They bring another out with no apologies, which was a repeat of the earlier exchange. There are at least 5 holes now missing the white tee markers, and on 3 separate holes, both my wife & I had shards of fiberglass from the flag sticks stuck in our hands. REALLY?? I can bet that at one time this was an awesome little course, but now is managed so poorly, that "bringing it back" to glory would be all but impossible. I do love the layout & forced carries over water, but it's just not worth the hassle.
