Course is Closed
Booked a tee time through GolfNow.com, drove 45 minutes to the course to find out that they had closed the course. Need to remove this course from listing on Golf Now.
Fairly priced course
I got on at Texaco for $10 through a Golf Now Hot Deal. That is about as much as I would pay to play here.
For starters, I got to pro shop, and checked in. The lady working the counter was nice. However, when I asked for a scorecard she said they were out. Out of scorecards? That's a first.
Course condition was poor. Fairways were like cement. Ditto for the greens and even the bunkers were hard as a rock. It fun bombing 300+ yard drives on every hole (50 yards of role at least), but no so fun when you are hitting a wedge into the green and watching it bounce 20 feet in the air like it had hit a rock. Greens were a trainwreck, anything within 5 feet I just picked up.
The signatures #11 hole, is totally closed, and in its place there are two temporary par 3's, but you just have to sort of figure out where you are supposed to hit. No signage directing you where to go.
Pace of play....well i finished 18 holes in about 2 hours. Two. Hours. The course is short, and the not very difficult so I made good time. However, I will note that I skipped 2 holes completely, because those holes had 2 sets of 5-somes on them, and I was interested in trying to play through two groups, so I just skipped the holes all together. This was very confusing to me, because the rest of the course was empty.
All in all, if you just need to go out and hit some balls in a golf course-like situation, this is good enough for $10. If you are even the slightest bit serious about shooting a good score, don't bother.
Another fun day at Texaco
Have played here several times and have always had a good experience. It may not be the best maintained course in Houston but it is still a fun little track (with exception of #11 but it is closed for repairs due to the flooding) that offers up birdies if you keep it in the fairway. We were a twosome and were let through by three groups and after that I think we finished the back 9 in 45 minutes. It is imperative that you try their burgers. Hands down best burger I've ever had at a golf course. Ask for the jalapeno bacon cheeseburger all the way. Thank you to the staff for providing us with a wonderful afternoon of golf.
Fair course, great times behind
Although the course is in serious need for renovation, the quality received matches the good prices for tee times found at golfnow. Do not expect anything better than $20 fee. Layout is fun and somewhat challenging.
Great layout; poor conditions
This course has obviously seen better days.
The layout is worth the money to play, but you'll be hitting out of clover and other weeds. The greens are small and firm which adds to the challenge. Lots of mature trees and cool section that plays around a small swamp. Lots of character and still a fun round of golf. I started at 3:00 and joined another single on the first tee. We finished at 5:30--a 2 & 1/2 hour round! That also makes up for some condition issues.
This course needs a millionaire to come in and bring it back to it's glory years... but, don't we all?
Sunshine
Will be back at another time. The players are usually more senior. Pace is just right for the people that play here.
A waste of time
This course is in deplorable codition. Nothing worh noting other than the price. I will not play here again.
Texaco
It was my wife's first time playing so it took a while for us to play. Everyone was pretty patient and the staff was very nice. We will go back
I would only play there again
I would only play there again for the 10 bucks I paid to play
okay
local location. playing pace. money wise. staff
friendly.
Modest course; great time!
The course was wet after very heavy rains and there was casual water everywhere. Carts were allowed on cart paths only but we finished in less than four hours.
But the greens were in good condition and the weather kept golfers home, so we had a good time. I look forward to playing the course when it's dry. The course looks very "walkable".
Finally Played Texaco
When you are working on improving your skills the more you get out to play the better you get. Lost more balls due to the high amount of leaves all over the course. It must be that time of the year. However, I had a good golfing experience for the money.
A nice walk through.
It was the first time at Texaco and using Golf Now to book it. Was impressed by both.
Good Course
I got 7 months in playing the game. 1st time playing and to be honest, I've seen better greens for the same amount of price. It seems like the place has been neglected somewhat. The ball cleaners had no water to clean them. Pace was good for me. Courteous golfers let me play thru and vice/versa. Not a bad course for a beginner like my self to learn the game. But, for an experience golfer there are better courses if you are willing to travel a little.
This course needs a major overhaul
I paid $13 through golfnow.com to play 18 with a cart at Texaco. Even at $13 I don't feel like I got a great deal. The course is in terrible shape all around. I will say there were some positives. We played our round in well under 4 hours, even during a peak time on Saturday. The staff is friendly, and the grille seems to be decent and appropriately priced despite having very outdated facilities. If you like playing golf for as little as possible and don't mind the course conditions, this might be your spot.
Staff
The Staff personnel were Anti-GolfNow!
Made me feel unwelcome from the first contact!
Needs Work.
This course was an ok course. When you check in for tee time its like stepping back in time. This course look and feels like time has stopped. It has and old and throw back feel to it. Which is good if love the game of golf. If they would work on the fairways and greens and paint a few things here and there this would be a great course to play.
Great course
This course is great, the different challenges, Friendly people ,great place to relax and enjoy golf.
Pro Shop Staff inflexible
I have a time at 11:30 and there is bad weather headed this way. Severe thunderstorms are forecast for around noon. The Pro Shop guy said that since we booked through GolfNow we could not get an earlier time even though there are numerous open times available on GolfNow. This course has very little play and I can see why.
