Nice pace of play.
My wife and I were allowed to play as a twosome. There were also some singles playing. But best of all, no fivesomes.
Not much grass on fairways.
Small greens can be a challenge.
After the 2 weeks of cold temps
I enjoyed playing this course. This one one of the 1st good weather days in at least 2 weeks here in Houston so it was crowed. The greens was ok but kind of on the fast on most holes. I plan to play here again soon!
Needs water badly
Appeared to use steamrollers rather than mowers on the greens. More like putting on garage floor. This might be a beautiful place when the trees get leaves back on, but I didn't see any sprinkler heads at all...? Very old facilities, but nice people. I may try again this summer, but I wouldn't recommend the winter conditions.
Poor course condition
Not what I expected for a country club course. Needs a lot of upgrades. Might be better once everything greens up in summer.
Texaco an Old Time favorite!
I'm not a very good golfer and probably will never be, but I know a good time with friends, and a place that makes one feel at home. Texaco is such a place. Most the players you meet are members of the club, but trust me they have even stopped their play and helped me find my ball. I keep coming back to Texaco and I try to bring a new friend each time, because I know they will have fun.

tight fairways
Tight fairways and the greens need some work very playable course.
Great value for the price.
Texaco will never be confused with River Oaks C.C., but if you want a reasonably maintained course for a good price, try Texaco. The staff is very friendly, the greens roll well and if you play on a Saturday, you'll get to try some excellent butter beans and cornbread at the turn.
I would not consider this course difficult. Holes 10 thru 13 will challenge the average player, however.
If you want to have fun and possibly a good round, try Texaco.
This course need signage. BIG TIME
If you like playing on asphalt, this is the course for you. The tee boxes are like concrete.
Good greens, average fairways.
This course was pretty nice, with the only exception being that the fairways were dry and compacted to a cement like surface. The layout was great, greens were in real good shape, and overall we had a great time. This course would probably be great after a good rain. This course also has a wide open layout, so finding your sliced balls are reletivly easy.
This course has great elevations.
I love the elevations of this course. Feels secluded like you aren't even in the city. The fairways are ok, and the approach surrounding the greens are great. The greens and tee boxes still need some work. You can't beat the price and it's not very busy so great to bring beginners to.
Nice course
Nice historical course. Its very original and I like how they have kept it that way. The fairway s need attention but there is only so much you can do in tx. 10 bucks to play.....can't beat that. Thanx golfnow!!!
Greens A Bit Ragged
Overall, this course is fairly well maintained. However, I found the greens to be a bit ragged. They needed water and fertilizing. They were also cut too long which made putting a bit of a major challenge considering the ball not rolling a straight course, rather bouncing up and down or side to side. I think that if the course maintenance people would fertilize and water the greens, this would improve the overall situation of this course.
Played Texaco
My first time there. Staff were very friendly. It is a nice track but was rather dried out, maybe due to ongoing drought issues in the area. I liked the course.
Short Game
If you play Texaco plan on working on your short game, the course is short and the greens or on the small side. Play this course after a good rain and you might find some green grass on the fairway !!
