Great course & value.
First time playing this track, loved it. Too bad their going to ruin a nice older golf course with more development. Have to play it again before this takes place.
Course closed until June 2019
The course is will be closed until June 2019. The entire course will be rebuilt by the Hale Irwin group, so it promises to be a significant change from the prior course.
City Park
First time playing this course, paired up with three other guys, got along very well, has tons of fun. Course needs some serious work, lots of back and fourth holes, fairways were fair, greens were quite good, many uphill putts if you played your irons correctly. I would play here again, but only if price were to cut in half, than value for price paid would be more in line
Casual Golfers Only
Despite having similar problems with this course in the past, I wanted to play it one more time because it's going to be closed all of next season for renovations. This course always has pace-of-play issues because it's meant for casual weekend golfers. This most recent round, however, was way worse that normal. I played as a single, and got put with three other guys. These guys were nice guys, and clearly just looking to have a good time, which is fine. But they were pounding drinks and smoking pot like crazy. By the 7th hole, they could barely swing a golf club. I'm all for having a good time on the course, but this was over the top. I felt like I was at a frat party. And as the sober one of the group, it made for a terrible experience.
If this is what you look for in a golf round, then City Park is for you. But if you're looking to actually play some golf, don't play here. The clientele is pretty trashy here.
Mile high Play
City course, lots of history, play can be slow, was told by local that the courses days are number, city needs land, locals don't want to lose course.
Great Value
This course has amazing views and was in very good shape. The greens rolled very true. Fun layout with some really good holes and some quirky holes with some weird sight lines from the back tees. The greens are way old school sloping pretty hard from back to front on many of the holes. They will be renovating soon which I hope will bring out the true potential of this golf course. A good layout now but if modernized correctly without ruining it's original character, this course could be one of the best values in the state. Definitely give it a try.
Pleasant surprise
Colorado native and played this course for the first time today. I came away hoping the course will retain a lot of it's old quirks after the redesign next year. It was really fun and in great shape for early May. There are spots that can penalize you, but not a ton of trees so if you miss your mark generally you can hit reasonable recovery shots. The holes along 17th and Colorado Blvd are an interesting mental challenge. You sort of need to psych yourself into hitting driver and not worry so much about potentially hitting into traffic. It's a great old course, go give it a play before they close and change it.
Great city view
Course is is a decent layout although the greens were not in great shape. They need water and to be rolled. I enjoy playing this course as the views of Denver and the mountains are amazing. I know the course is going to go through a renovation next year and I think it will make it a much better course to play. The cost to play there needs to be kept at the lower end so that it can be enjoyed.
The greens are slow!
The greens are bumpy and slow!
Fun Course Downtown
Conditions at City Park golf course have shown marked improvement over the last few years, A testament to the course superintendent as well as to the weather gods. Location and price make this a solid choice. On the downside the maintenance staff (lawn mowing etc.) could be better trained in proper ettiquette when they are working around players on the course. And seriously.....is it that hard to keep the sand bottles full with sand/seed mixture and the ball washers filled with water ? Nothing screams "muni" course more than not taking care of the little things !
