A Historical Discovery

Campeonato Metropolitano de Golf course is a historical gem located in the heart of Buenos Aires near downtown. The city of Buenos Aires is rich in history, culture, and tourism. With so many options of actives, its refreshing to know that golf is available in this bustling, and vibrant city. It should be noted that Campeonato Metropolitano de Golf is an historical site and the "only" municiple golf course in Buenos Aires. Surprisingly, it may be the most inexpensive golf course in the world to play, especially for Seniors. On a special note it is also the place where Angel Cabrera and Eduardo Romero played when they were young students of the game.
This 18 hole championship golf course is a par 72, with 4 sets of tee boxes, and measures 6582 yards from the back tees (Azules tees). The course is a local favorite and is very desireable to international golfers as well. Campeonato Metropolitano de Golf  is a charming old style parkland golf course with tree -lined fairways that are moderately wide and relatively straight. The rough is a mixture of coarse grass, ground covering vegetation and brown hardpan. The greens are small, undulating, with a medium to slow green speed, which can be frustrating for those who regularly play on faster greens. There are several large sand traps, creeks, and small ponds near the greens to disrupt and challenge golfers thought process and skill set on approach shots into the green. Additionally, there are some greens with false fronts which will cause your ball to roll back several feet, but this course feature adds to the mystique and challenge of the course. Campo Municiple De Golf Course is an excellent walking course with a calm and social atmosphere. I found each hole to be challenging, but not intimidating. I discovered that there are a few blind shots and hidden hazards on the course. For example on hole 8, a high, long tee shot  230 yards or longer will clear the last tree just off the left side of the fairway, but not the large pond just beyond the trees. The pond cannot be seen from the tee box!
The day I played was sunny and hot, with a mild breeze. The course was busy, but not crowded. I like the course layout and the pace of play. The course does not have a driving range, but it does have a couple of cages with hitting nets to practice your swing. There is also a quaint halfway house for snacks, beverages, and restrooms. Campeonato Metropolitano de Golf does have a practice putting green, Pro Shop and restaurant. Surprisingly, there are four holes on the course, which I consider to be signature holes (5, 12, 14, & 16). This mild mannered course should not be taken lightly, if you want to shoot a few strokes better than your average. I enjoyed my day at Campeonato Metropolitano de Golf and I am sure you will to.
Campeonato Metropolitano de Golf is a historical landsite and a Buenos Aires diamond in the rough. It lacks the luster it once had, but it is a hidden gem. The course is still nice to think about playing, but it's not a memorable golf course. Whistling Straits in the USA, has firm fairways, many, large powdery sand traps, and lighting fast greens, while Ballybunion in Ireland, has wind swept links, rolling grass and deep pothole bunkers, so what are the features of Campeonato Metropolitano de Golf that will define its Legacy and place in history? This is still to be determined. Campeonato Metropolitano de Golf has the potential to be a much better course, but for now it is a "Nice" golf course.
